Anyone here get PSM?

Today I got my Independant PSM issue, and on page 37 they had an Evo review....

Evo gets a 10/10 (vf4 got a 9/10 in this mag).

The review seems like they don't even have the game, in fact this is probably true, as there is NO mention of many obvious features/improvements in the game....

They don't mention:

-AI of quest mode being improved/based of Jap. arcade players
-new music.....they must be deaf
-Goh, how the fuck could you not mention Goh?? /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The only mention of Brad is on a photo's caption ".....the new boy, Brad."
-VF 10th anniversary, they must have missed it, or don't have the actual game! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
-They don't mention the memory card system changes.....
-no mention of more outfits, wallpaper, icons, items.....

To top that off, the review is very small, and cluttered to a haf page combined with an adverstisement for XIII.........fifty-bucks says that SCII will get a full-page review.

I would bet that 50 bucks also says SCII won't get a 10/10 in PSM though. That honor will be saved for the EGM/Ziff-Davis publications.

 

Evo simply doesn't have the hype and the demand for greater allocation of resources. Be thankful it got a 10.

 

Well if you can, get a copy of the mag, and post whether or not you think they actually had a copy of the game..........

My vote is no they did not have a copy.

10/10 for a game that's going to sell for 20 bucks....

Man c'mon they gave it a perfect score, there's no need to complain.
That's not bad for a $20 game.
And whether SC2 gets half a page or 5 pages, ppl are going to buy it regardless !

Anyway, Evo is obviously the better game, but i owuldn't be surprised if SC2 ended up with a 10/10 score. Honestly, i've had them both since JP release, and my copy of SC2 is actually beginning to collect dust in my entertainment center. Not to turn this into another SC vs. VF debate... /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

 

I would bet that SC2 will not get a 10/10 score in PSM. They will most likely give it an 8 or 9...

 

I doubt that they'll give it an 8 but I think a 9 is very likely.

Yeah see, that's the problem.

They didn't mention half of the things that are in Evolution, including the 10th ann. exclusive to the US version. People would be more prone to buying Evo, if they new more about it, and new it included more things in it......

SCII will most likely get a 9, but the review will be probably at least 2-3 pages, and more people will read it.....and therefore but the game.

PSM gives games 9 and 10 all the time........but that doesn't persuade what I buy still. What motivates someone to get a game, is a thoughtful and thourough review of the game....not a a couple hundred words of stuff we all know......

Basically, they took a preview they printed earlier, changed the wording, and put "Review" as the title, I mean fuck, they even used the same exact pictures from the review..........and one's of Sega's site........

for some odd reason, I haven't received my copy of PSM in the mail yet (it didn't even come today??). But, if you read the preview of Evo a few issues back, there is mention of the crew having a copy of the import version. My guess would be that they based their review on their Japanese copy, and carefully worded it in the event that it is innaccurate due to some of the changes that'll be in the US release...

 

Put a 9 or 10 next to any $20 game and I think most ppl would be willing to take the risk (VERY small risk), indepth review or not.
And if someone really wants an indepth review of the game well they can always go online.

SC2 is the highly anticipated sequel to one of the best fighting game series of all time believe it or not, so yes it might, no it will get more coverage and media attention than Evo. Why shouldn't it, because you say so ? Sega didn't give a fuck about their own game at E3 why should PSM give a fuck ? Oh my bad they did give a fuck, they gave it a PERFECT 10. I have a solution for you : stop buying PSM or cancel your subscription.

Yeah, PSM is a pretty awful mag nowadays. I'm surprised at how awful it has become since I left and came back to the States - it's like the gradual transition of all previous Imagine game mags from being at least readable into toilet paper with video game screenshots as decorations. I officially lost any interest in the magazine when Bob DeJesus no longer contributed anything to it, but now they don't even have the interesting original artwork on the cover anymore. Bleh.

(Even when they did put original artwork on the cover, they were too stupid to use a lovely piece they comissioned Masamune Shirow to do. Talk about a complete waste.)

As for the Evo review, it seems pretty obvious that they didn't spend much time with the game, and it just seems to say "yeah more VF4, more of the same, VF4 is good, so this is good too." I think this does more to hurt the game's image than somebody whining that it's just an "upgrade." Mainstream gaming publications drop the ball yet again.
