Can Unreal Engine 5 bless Virtua Fighter 6?
How can it do so folks?
What next gen features do you expect realistically?

    I'm expecting:
    *NO LOADING SCREENS
    *CROSS-PLAY XSX/PS5 (PCMR???)
    *ALWAYS ON DOJO MODE
*DAY & NIGHT CYCLE ALL STAGES
    *PROPER HAIR
    *PROPER CLOTHES

    What I'm HOPING FOR:

    *2023 Release VF6
    *Restrained monetisation scheme
    *4K/60fps native??
*Speak through the character (voice conversion from mic, even translation lol)
    *Online DOJO
*MORE "mini" Fighting Modes (ie just points scored per round in 60s or 120s)

    RESTRAINED MONETISATION:
*EG 4 FIGHTERS SEASONALLY for €40 (Quest, DOJO, Online, Arcade, Story 2D animated)
*EXPANDED CUSTOMISATION per SEASON for €40 (Unlocked all customisation + 40% more exclusive DLC)
*It'd be more expensive to buy things individually

*I'd hope the game is Free to Play
    *Only 3 available characters:
    *Akira (+2 always revolving monthly)

    Only: Arcade, DOJO & Online

I might be hated/disapproved for what i say now, but i see following:

Back in times, fighting games were THE cutting edge graphics showcases, together with racers and shmups. Be that 2D ones (SNK and Capcom entries mostly) or 3D (Sega, Tecmo and sometimes Namco). That was during times when arcades not only were more powerful than home systems, but also popular enough.

However, with arcades going niche and consoles & home PC becoming gfx showcases, and also globalization of game industry as a whole, and arcade-like genres becoming pretty niche to mainstream audience, things started to be not how they were previously.

I'd say that within current gen, no 3d fighting game reached gfx potential at all, or at least if we talk about japanese ones. Be that due to company decisions or lack of budget for such niche genre comparing to whatever thing sells the best nowodays, or different priorities... but speaking strictly, i believe that technically we should have had fighting games already that look as good as at least, (for example) Order 1886 (which already surpassed, btw) but works flawlessly at 60 fps cause unlike openworld rpgs or whatever, in fgt u mostly have two main characters on screen and not-very-expansive stage. So there is potential to juice more graphics than any rpg or fps have with their long/huge environments and many chars on screen.

If we take a look about current graphics... i will not talk about GGXrd or SF5 due to heavy stylisation.

DOA6: while looks good, isn't that much huge step from doa5 (which, also, didnt utilize ps3/x360 power fully, i mean - is it really more gfx than crysis 2-3 or even last of us?), mostly slightly improving characters skin rendering, softer lighting and more highres stage textures. Surely, doa's high point is interactive multitier stages, as always. Chars are highpoly etc. but im not even sure that doa6 even had same attention to clothes that doa5 had, though they did good how materials react to lighting.

Tekken 7: while looks ok, subjectively - imho - overall mediocre gfx and also visually a mess, not as readable as older Tekken games. Another point, is how they messed up colour correction/contrast etc. when doing home versions of T7. From that point of view, arcade T7 is more well made. And clothes look kinda poor...

Soul Calibur 6: perhaps i'd say it's more pretty than t7 in gfx, especially backgrounds, but characters/lighting cant compare to doa6.

Fighting Layer EX: obviously pretty small-to-mid budget game, so looks less advanced that three above.

KOF XIV: well, SNK aren't that much good with 3d. People even were comparing kof14 gfx to ps2, that's how underwhelming it looked. Though they updated it so it looks better than it was at original release. Granted, some say that animations are good, at least. Also IMHO even though gfx look not only basic but plastic/bland/cheap, at least it has awesome readability, unlike T7 (which as i said, for me, a bit of noisy mess). Samurai Shodown 2019, however, improves with more stylisation, i guess.

TL;DR i beleive that lately fightings are not catching up with more high budget games in terms of raw gfx power for plenty of reasons. So before reaching UE5 level, they need reach level of what was maximum of ue4 first...

    p.s.

What exactly you mean? Super fast instant loading because of SSD drives, or you somehow mean that all stages are one big stage, and camera just teleports between sections?

    I'd rather not ..

Tekken's characters' models look plastic like and feel as if they are all based on the same model only tweaked around a bit.

VF always impressed graphically with AM2 internal engines...

So I'd rather not ... Unless it's gonna follow MK11 characters' model style. This game looks like a beast and it's based on UE3.

Yes super fast instant loading screens,

Also Superfast transition from an "always-on" dojo mode to any fighting stage

mk11 models look awesome but the gameplay is stiff unfortunately besides the on rails supermoves

I wouldn't call it stiff and not fun... It's fun. It feels different the that Japanese 2D games, but nevertheless fun and more polished than a lot of them.

The responsiveness is different but it's just different style.

It's the animation it's better than MKX's but it is still very unpolished.

I'm fine waiting for sega to make their own graphical system. They've shown in the other versions of the game the ability to innovate graphically. I hope they up their sound effect game though.

I have no faith in Sega investing in the time and money to make an engine rivalling unreal 5, in fact, I fear that they could be cheap and be forced to modify and use that god awful Yakuza engine.

This game looks sub par for the PS4/Xbone generation.

It's a known thing that Yakuza 7 looks inferior to previous Yakuza games when it comes to graphics.

Yakuza 6 and Judgement had amazing graphics for characters' models and most of the environment. It fits VF style much more than Unreal.

The Japanese fighters that used unreal ended up with plastic looking characters' models. Awful !

If it can make the in-game character models look like this..

    JackyPortraitVF5.jpg WolfPortraitVF5.jpg JeffryPortaitVF5.jpg SarahPortraitVF5.jpg

    Im fucking sold..

Yakuza 6, Judgment and Yakuza 2 Kiwami characters are closer to that than Tekken 7.

Unreal engine makes every game look the same, not just Japanese fighting games. Every time I start a new game I can immediately tell if its using unreal engine because it has a certain look that no developer has been able to get around.

Unreal engine 3 was especially bad in this, but 4 is better. Hopefully they can overcome that "unreal look" with their new engine.

I will have to agree. Fully. I was always able to say if a game is based on Unreal. But honestly Tekken and Soul Calibur probably look the worse. SF MK and SS all look better ( especially MK). .
I just think that even Yakuza Kiwami 2 had better characters' models than Tekken 7

In itself, you can't have the answer for a question like this.

Devs usually study an Engine, to know if they can create their vision with that said graphic engine.

Tho i think Unreal Engine 5 would be great for a fighting games, so for a game like VF6, but is it the best option for the game? Now that's in Devs hands to figure it out, if they can create their vision for VF6 with that Engine then let it be, if not than i would suspect they try to find a better option for their game.

Same here. I'm glad to see that other people besides myself, can tell what games run on unreal.

Strangely enough, I was never really a fan of the "Unreal look." I don't know why.:p

To be honest, for games they'll have to dumb down the UE5 Engine, to make it run properly on PS5 and Xbox One X, because those two consoles, are definitely not going to be powerful enough, to handle that kind of raw power.
