Crouch [P]+[G] set ups

  1. Crouching [P]+[G] setups

(If you know something that I might be missing that makes this not really a good idea let me know. )

Hey guys I've been testing in training mode lately ways to get an opponent with crouch grabs. Mind you these are pretty much gimmicks but I think they're really strong using them wisely here and there, helps with getting into an opponents head.

    Fall break trap(tech rolls)

I've found an interesting setup that allows you to get into crouching [P]+[G] grabs when your opponent ukemi rolls. First off I believe you can get this completely off any roll when your opponent is going to be face down head towards. When your opponent gets knocked backwards by a move such as 66 [P]+[K] and roll sideways you can get them with this as well.

Also the opponent must fall break for this to work as well, so be mindful of that

Anyway basically when you get someone knocked down in that position and use a quick move that attacks them before they hit the ground such as:
-3 [P] (without the second punch)
    -2 [P]
    -5 [K]
    -1 [K]
    -2 [K]
    -3 [K] , [P]
    -4 [K]

I think you guys understand what I mean. When you hit them with a move and they choose to quick rise, dash forward (depending on the roll you might wanna dash multiple times to help yourself time it) and press 1, 2 , or 3 [P]+[G] and it should be able to connect.

I mainly like this because you can get into Tsukami and get 75-90 damage easily assuming your opponent didn't tech the throw. And you can mix it up by choosing a different crouch grab as well.

Moves that  put the opponent face down head towards:

    -3 [P]+[K]
    -4 [P]+[K] full charge
-8 [P]+[K] [need to hit with a low attack or 3P)
-6[P]+[K] (I don't recommend using this for this purpose because you can get guaranteed damage with a combo)

    An Example would be:
    Hit with 3 [P]+[K], 3[P], dash, 2 [P]+[G]

Other ways to get crouching [P]+[G]

While descending(jump) [P], allows you to go straight into a crouch grab

Back turned 2 [P] Counter hit, then go into the grab

Tell me what you guys think, hope this is useful to some. I've pulled a few of these of in some matches an people were caught off guard. If you don't quite understand something I may have said please tell me.

I go for backturned 2+P counterhit into low throw a lot. That's a sweet setup for it for sure.I actually think that, despite his new stuff, going BT is still Goh's bread and butter. It's still very effective in FS. Also, 4+K, P+G is a really good move. Good range, great damage.

This is great, I never thought of ways of getting a single Crouching Grab without combo'n into it. Now if they Ukemi with a side roll is it a guarantee that I'll be getting a Crouch Grab if they decide not to attack and don't tech it?

  4. I'm pretty sure it's guaranteed as long as they don't throw escape, because they're still getting up from recovery and you grab them during the time they're in a forced crouch,(there's crouch frames during the side roll and that's how it's able to be done on the side.) I also tested the set up with wolf and it seems he can do it too, so this is leading me to believe this might be universal for anyone with a crouch grab. Goh still makes it look the most awesome when he does it though.

You probably already know this but I also forgot to mention that 6K Counter hit into a Tsukami clutch does an amazing amount of damage if you wanna try going for throw damage. The side throw does 102 and the forward and back throws do 117. I usually like to go with the guaranteed combo but if my back is near a wall and I get a 6K off I try to go for this to reverse the positions.

Ya, I knew about the 6K combo. You can also do 36K,P after it as well, it does it as if you hit them while their crouching.

The ability to low throw certain tech rolls is universal to all characters with a low throw. You'll sometimes notice that you can be hit with certain mids during this same, face down/head towards, tech roll.

The timing is a little tricky, but going for a low throw or half-circular mid is a great option against that type of roll. You used to be able to back stagger them, back crumple and then back low throw them off an OM+P in Vanilla vf5. The sudden death combo. I notice Akira players knocking me out of that roll pretty often.

Well, since I've been experimenting with it. It seems that if you OM right when they side roll it gives you just the right frames in order for you to do it. /this will definitely increase my game. Thank "God" for VirtuaFighter.com!

  8. Nice! That defiantly makes the timing easier. Vfdc is so good lol

Definitely! I would not know 25% of the stuff I know now without it.

    Agreed! [IMG]

The OM giving you the right timing makes sense because of how the sudden death combo worked off the older OM+P.

Here's one issue I see with using OM instead of dashing: If they're not rolling to the same side every time, you have to guess the right OM direction or you'll end up too far away to land the low throw. With a regular dash, you don't have to guess correctly, but you have to time it right.

Actually, before I said anything about this I tried both directions and they both work. If you go the opposite direction then you spin in a circle. Actually, if you go the same direction it seems that you sometimes get a side crouching grab.

You can also get a [2][P]+[G] throw after [3]+[K][P] if the opponent blocks the [3][K] and the [P] gets a counterhit, if it doesn't counterhit you can get 2P'd out of the throw attempt, in that case mix it up with [9][P]+[K]

You don't need to mix it up with [9][P][+][K]. If they push a button after the [P] hits.. Just do [6][K]. They will lose half their bar... (No matter who it is).

Good point, [9][P]+[K] is like my panic button, always seem to think of it before everything else lol

CH 3 [K][P] according to the command list is +8. Throws come out at 10 frames so it shouldn't work. I guess this would work if an opponent was sideturned.

Opponent crouching at -7 or worse gets low thrown if they just hold G or do nothing. Not guaranteed though, but it works on people who freese.

Yeah, what Combolammas said, at -7 to -9 they can just dash, DM or attack out of your crouch throw attempt, it isn't guaranteed unless they freeze and just hold G.

I usually set mine up with [9_] [P]+[K], then [2_] [P], then finish it with the [2_] [P]+[G]

I think you're talking about a ground throw there? This is about crouch throws.

As for that setup of yours, you'd be better off leaving the 2P out, since it doesn't hit every character and even when it does, they can tech out before the ground throw. 9P+K, ground throw is valid though.

well usually when they block the [9] [P]+[K] i hit the [2] [P] where it's mostly like to get a CH and usually leads up to a crouch throw.
