Given some of the topics we have been seeing in the past few months and given the environment we are in I think it is time to think about this.

The PS3 is around corner. It releases the second or third week of November depending on where you live. Apparently VF5 on PS3 is about 1 year away. When that happens we (meaning this site) are going to get bombarded with questions like, "Why do some characters float higher than others", "How do I do the super-moves" and "How does the Ryu-guy throw fire-balls" etc.

In order to stem the coming flood of super-simple questions and ultra noob topics, I would suggest that some sort of requirement or seniority system be implemented whereby a person couldn't register on the site and create new topics that same day. Specifically I suggest that.....

    1. Everyone already here and in good standing be grandfathered in at current priviledges.

    2. After a specified date username be required to have 30 posts and be 30 days old before it had permission to create a new thread. Or some variation of that as is required by practical reality.

That would cut down on the number of threads; it would force newcomers to use the search engine more; and it would save the mod tons of work. It would force site newcomers to learn a bit by participating in other people's threads before they ask a question that has gets asked and answered a thousand times daily.

I would like to know what everyone thinks about this idea. I know this isn't a democracy and Myke's opinion is what counts. I guess I should have said I would for Myke to know how everyone thinks about this idea. Perhaps it has been tried before or some other solution has been discovered. While I know it is not a problem now, in my mind I can already see 100+ new threads a day asking ultra-noob questions.

thread hijacking is going to be the norm then.

example: "sorry to go off topic but how do i........."

and millions post like that. /versus/images/graemlins/indifferent.gif

You know, we are way ahead of you....

this issue has already been discussed. We'll see how it goes.

The problem doesn't really lie with posting permissions, but rather with content imo.

    Re: "NOOBS" Unite

"Noobs" unite!!! Let's bring down these "non-noobs" who try to act like they were never "noobs" themselves or like they never asked "stupid questions".

Come on, you all-knowing, never-wrong, gang of "vfdc vets" (not all of you, a lot of you guys are cool), let us "noobs" have our fun
(as many of you once did) and let us ask, discuss, and interact with each other (as many of you once did).

So, ok, I just happen to have missed the "Tekken VS. VF" discussion, so is that IT for me? Guess all I can do now is go to YOUR old discussions about it, read it and go "damn, I wish I could have been a part of that discussion". Forget that.
This is one of the main reasons why the VF community is so small when compared to other "inferior" fighting game communities.

When you join other communities and bring up something that they have "discussed to death", the "non-noobs" dont turn up their nose at us "noobs", totally ignore us or respond to us with the "dude, this topic is so last year" response or the classic "Look it up in one of the old threads, dumb-ass".

If you guys are interested at all in attracting new blood, you're going to have to get off your high horses and either respond to "noobs" in a helpful manner or dont respond at all.

I mean before most people join they have a chance to read the threads and if they get a sense that most of the people on here are arrogant, rude and/or have a holier-than-thou attitude, most of them wont even join.

We should all be glad there are new people trying to learn the game.

Some people just get on this to see what's so "great" about this VF that all the video mags rave about but most of their friends dont own or know how to play.
I truly and honestly love this site because of my love for VF and how well designed the site is, a lot of the guys on here are cool too... until you disagree with some of them or ask a "noob" question, then it's your ass.

I aint crying or complaining about it, I'm just saying that US "noobs" should just get together and have our fun and you "vets" should be able to let us have our fun.

"Why cant we all just get along?" /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

P.S. If the shoe dont fit....

I am running on a platform of tutorial training, more gatherings in different places across the country, stiffer penalties for mashers, simplified faq guides for noobs.

Srider, you say the problem isn't with posting permission but rather with content, How so?

Tony I am all for answering noob questions, but even the gamefaqs limits the number of threads new users can make, and even there you get the same questions asked over and over again, which isn't a problem because they delete thread. I don't know if VFDC never deletes threads, but I know they keep them for a long time. I have found threads going back to 1999 myself.

Sudden death, "ask your question here" threads to the rescue.

    *using only their tongues.

I don't know. I don't mind people asking the same questions over and over. I hate it when a user gets torched then goes on a rampage and spams, gets banned, re-reges, spams, gets banned again et cetera and 0% of their content is amusing in the slightest other than the fact that you know they are walking around all day wondering how they are going to "get back at those assholes on VFDC...grrrrr"

Of course I'm not talking about shang cause shang bought me dinners (with an s) and made me laugh, Supermaaaan!

    woh, slow down there...

    We haven't done anything yet.

You guys can have your fun, as long as it's in the appropriate sections. I don't remember any heavy modding action on my part or myke's even, so how can you say that we are not letting you guys have your fun.

Conversely, if you guys feel like you have the right to have fun, it's only fair that vets have their fun as well, however you define the term fun...

Anyways, I personally don't care what you guys do as long as you respect the fact that in certain sections of the forums, whatever you say are not always taken as fun and games.

for my part: I don't think any user should be forbidden from posting anything they like.

if they prove to be someone who just wants to spam meaningless info over and over, I think they should be warned.

the whole "use the search function" speech!!! have any of you ever tried using it? The results will lead you to a post telling you to use the search function.

And withholds the view that this site isn't noob friendly and VF as a game is overly complex to the point where you have to find things out on your own while the truth is that this site really needs new blood.

    ^_^

I'll have to agree with Tony here. I've raised some serious 'doh!' points myself and you guys (plus girl) have been really patient with me. But you only realise that later on. If you start building concrete walls beforehand you'd be sending out the wrong message.

It's going to put quite a strain on some of the people here though. You could send out a recruiting call for moderators. I'm unsure if you can really trust this lot though...
