This thread is for talking about Goh's matchups in VF5. Post if you are have insight into a particular matchup or want to know how to deal with one you are having trouble with.

To start off I'd like to ask about Goh vs Lei Fei. I always had trouble with him because I never got enough practice against people using him. Now that both him and Goh are strengthened for VF5, what kind of things should I be looking for from him? Is there anything Goh has that is especially effective in this matchup that I can use?

I'm aware that there's no substitute for experience but it helps to know some general things ahead of time.

I'm pretty interested in that matchup aswell, since my neighbour is pummeling me into oblivion if I'm not in tiptop-shape /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

My experience is that I'm being overwhelmed with Lei's fast combo's. The only thing that tends to work is the good ol' 2p to interrupt his combo's before they get to complicated. Dodging is great aswell. That, and poking him from distance until you get an advantage.

Obviously, this isn't enough, since I STILL get beaten over and over again. Needless to say, I'm gonna keep an eye out on this thread.

Moves like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif are godsends against Lei. Stupid little bugger sabakis everything. Except moves like that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Best way to neutralize Lei Fei is to capitolize on the fact that he's very mid- and high-punch-centric. Learn the strings and learn to time the Tsukami throw. It made a huge difference for me, since one of my rivals abused me with Lei Fei for a long time. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If you're good enough, you could try /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif against his mid punches as well.

I also sometimes attack with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif from a distance (trying to provoke him with different dashes to score a counter)
    or use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

I dunno wat sabakis of Leifei's you are talking about but his 236P+K and koko stance's P sabakis Goh's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Leifei's doku stance will auto reversal that too.

I guess he's talking about the second hit only there, I really wouldn't know if that can be reversed or not.

Its absolutely true that Lei has nothing that can Sabaki the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif shoulder though...

I've also noticed that you can get the knee (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif) in a lot easier against Lei-Fei, as he's forced to attack all the time because he can't block from his stances it netted me a lot of counter hits, but maybe that was just the opponent I was facing at the time.

Second P or first P it's still Sabaki-able by those moves I've listed for Leifei..

No, you're right, the knee is really good against Lei players, as is his regular K.

Wow sorry about that. I thought for sure they were not sabaki-able. I'll get my roomate to try to sabaki them harder :p

Thanks vortigar that advice should be very helpful. ^_^

Probably be good if I looked at the strongest throws for each character so I know what I should prioritize breaking. Don't know many though...I think I'll look into it and just jot the most important break per character down for reference. I don't know how much some of throws do if you include the combo...which break is to get out of akira's launcher throw? If I'm wrong on any of these let me know.

    Akira 6
    Brad 6
    Eileen 4
    El Blaze 6
    Jacky 4
    Jeff 3
    Kage 4
    Lau 6
    Lei Fei 3
    Pai 4
    Sarah 6
    Shun 5
    Wolf 6

edit: thanks danny for the break fixes, I assume they get combos off those or something

actually, lei fei's 4 has been toned down in damage. 3 is generally better to escape (unless your opponnent is good at the multi-throw, which is 6).

And for Blaze, 6 does more damage (QCFp+g > p+g), but 4 has better Ring Out potential by far.

Shun escape neutral and once/if Shun gets to 10 drinks you also have 4 to contend with.

I have to agree with this. 3 puts you in a REALLY bad guessing situation of either getting thrown again, or hit with the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string. This particular setup is bad if you are not good at ETEG, or not good at guessing what your opponent will do.

    any tips vs Wolf?

  20. WrathX

I'm sure the "learn his most powerful throws, and learn how to escape them" is standard operating procedure around here, but in case it's not... learn Wolf's most powerful throws, and learn to escape them. I can't tell you how many times I've been slaughtered by Wolf, simply because I didn't know how to escape properly.

The other things to keep in mind:

<ul>[*]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is a major staple string for Wolf, and is throw guaranteed on block after the second /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Be prepared for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (which is not throw guaranteed) mixed with the full string. Once you see the overhand punch, throw FTW![*]Wolf's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is (at least I think it is) guaranteed knockdown on successful hit, and is a setup for a ground throw. Be prepared to escape /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, as just that two hit combo is pretty decent damage (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is a pick-up and stagger push, no damage though)[*]Use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif alot, especially against Wolf. Wolf is very dangerous up close, but Goh's striking game has improved enough that you can win without throwing him. [*]Learn to protect from Wolf's charging shoulder ram and his floating shoulder ram... I'm pretty sure that both are mids, but they are very dangerous attacks that you need to learn to avoid.[/list]

This should be a good start for this new subject. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
