I’m incredibly confused about “spheresâ€Â!

I’m a newbie to the board and a post about spheres is the first thing that I read. I’m the Hero rank and have NO IDEA what a sphere looks like or what they do. How exactly do I acquire one/any?

Please fill me in. Just rising ranks in Kumite is starting to get a little bit boring.
