Im wondering if the Street fighter JOystick is ok to use for vf5 and if not, why? Cannot find hori joystick anywhere... all backlogged and unavailable.. Or if neone else knows a online site for any other joysticks.. at a reasonable price

If you're talking about the Hori EX2 then don't bother. I think the Madcatz SE is the same, from what i've heard anyways.

I heard there are two versions of the madcatz SF4 stick, normal and tournament edition. And the normal edition is very crappy from what I heard, need the tournament edition for the sanwa parts and better quality.

Here's the DL on the SF SE stick since there seems to be the most widespread confusion about it.

It is NOT the same as the Hori EX2 stick. The ex2 is a piece of crap next to the SE stock edition. The buttons feel better and more responsive on the SE stick, also the actual stick feels much more responsive comparatively. However I prefer a tight stick with little throw and dead space.

Both the sticks are the same price but with the ex2 if you ever need to fix or mod the thing it's like rocket science compared to popping open the SE stick which is a breeze to modify. You're paying the same price for them so really it's a smart investment for the SE if nothing else for that fact that you can always buy new parts if you want to make it feel just like the Tournament edition stick which I don't think anything is in disagreement about being the total shit.

That explains it. I got my SF4 Arcade stick less than a week ago and already some buttons are starting to stick. I also got the TE edition "supposedly" on reserve from videogamecentral.com >_>
Anyway, the stick IS better than the HoriEX2 in responsiveness. The directionals and the button inputs are better but then...

the button I use the most started to stick to the sides =/
I went ahead and put a little bit of oil on the sides of it and that seemed to help but not even my worst HoriEX2 stick started to crap out like that after less than a freaking week.
Even the worst of my 2 HoriEX2 sticks still hasn't crapped out on me like that to this day and I've had it for almost a year. The "better" of the two is a little too loose right now and the other HoriEX2 (the one I let everybody use at NYG7) is totally loose. I know I can mod it and fix it but still sticks shouldn't crap out so damn fast. It's not like I beat on it or anything =/

I switched my parts out soon as I got mine so I know nothing about the longevity of the buttons. My Ex2 has 3 buttons that don't work reliably anymore though, which I'd be fine with if I could replace them but like I said it's a pain in the ass to get in there.

When you guys get on the TE stick you will see how nice it is. It has that trade-mark, hollow sound when you hit the gate, that reminds me of playing on a real cabinet. It's just really smooth and responsive and the buttons are REALLY sensitive.

As a whole, the stick has a little less play so it engages sooner as you push towards a direction. If that's just the quality of the Sanwa stick, I'd get one and mod the SE to make it like a TE. It just feels really good when you're playing and, I was dropping a quarter of the moves I used to, on the first day.

You can't "blame the stick" when you lose on the Madcatz Tournament Edition... It must have been you that messed up
    basically.

I haven't used a modded stick before, but if the quality I'm noticing is just the quality of the Sanwa parts (the bigger housing of the stick is nice for sitting on your lap), then you should grab a stick and buttons from Lizard Lick dot com and mod your stick. You WILL NOT regret it...

Dusted off my copy of VF5 to check out the TE stick with it and it's sex. Hella durable as well. My roommate puts it through the ringer using M.Bison and the only random problem it has had is on time the RT button stopped working, it felt dull, but my roomie opened it up, looked at it and saw nothing wrong then closed it and it was working again. Other than that no problem whatsoever. I really wanna play R on this bad boy!

Another minor negative about the SF4 Arcade stick:
For some reason, they put the RB/LB and the RT/LT in the wrong order. They're both right next to each other but the LT/LB is on the right of the RB/LB.
Again, minor issue but still, why? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Tricky, what did you change your buttons to? Sanwa parts? Where did you order them from? I will change out those buttons if I have to but do I have to change out the stick too?

You could order your buttons from www.lizardlick.com. The reason the RB and LB are next to each other in that order is because the default button layout for the pad. RB is fierce and RT is roundhouse. Hence why RT is underneath RB. So no need in going to the options if you have the stick or the Madcatz pad. At least is not annoying like Hori with their wonky layouts.

Thanks Shinobi! Should I change out the stick too? How hard is that to do? I've never done anything like this and I don't want to mess up this stick when I haven't even had it for a month.

I would say go hori real arcade.pro ex That is what i got at the suggesting of Jhow77, and it is fantastic!!! It only took half a minute to adjust to the stick from the hori ex2, and my movement was better and more responsive from the time i took it out the box...
