Pen Spinning!

I can't do this crap and it's pissing me off!!!!!!!

in one of the flicks the trick seemed to be subtly moving the first finger to assist the spin even though it appears mostly balanced on the thumb. In another though, it's kind of mysterious, I have no idea.

A korean friend of mine can take any book and spin it on his first finger like a basketball /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

 

Ive tried for the past hour and now my forearms are incredibly sore...i will keep trying until i master the charge technique!!!

 

I can spin the pen around my thumb clockwise and
anti-clockwise so the pen is in constant motion. Basically
you use you middle finger to propel the pen in one direction
and the index finger to hit it back... learnt that when
I was like 14 years old... The trick is to start out with
something longer than a pen so it is easier to balance it.
Of course choose something that has very good grip so it
doesn't fly off your thumb easily.

You start learning to spin it anti-clockwise and catching it.
Then you learn how to spin it anti-clockwise then clockwise
and then catching it. Then you learn how to keep the pen in
continuous motion.

 

it IS kinda hard... I got the charge into one spin a few times without it looking bad, but most times I dropped it. I think I got the idea at least, I can get it around the thumb without dipping my thumb, which is tempting.

From the pen spinning page is a pencil spinning page.. which has a dozen tiny movies which download horribly slow from geocities. But some are worth it, the guy does interesting combos.

I followed the instructional "Tricks" section on the site to do the normal charged.... hold the pen so your thumb and first two fingers are to the right of center, press towards your body with the middle finger and at the same time press a little downwards with the thumb. Keeping your thumb stiff, let your first finger slide off the pen (your first finger's the only thing that keeps it from flying) and if you charged it with the correct amount of pressure, your thumb will dip a little and the pen will fly up and then around the thumb. Catching it is the hard part :/

The number one thing to focus on is how much pressure you apply with the middle finger... too much and the pen flies away, too little and it sort of wobbles and drops as soon as it reaches vertical.
