Punishers for specific characters

    Effective ways to punish certain characters with Shun. Mainly am looking at different types of punishing moves that work against certain characters maily Lion and Akira (Akira's elbows) but really against any character. Just let everybody know how you deal with specific characters and how you counter them!

    High punishment:

    11f = 46 PPP
    12f = PK / P 4K
    14f = 236 KPP (6 DP)
    15f = 1 P+K
    16f = KKP
    16f = 236 P (6 DP)

    Low Punishment:

    15f = 6PP
    17f = 8K+G
    18f = 66K

    I'd say Shun's punishment game is not his virtues. No 14f punish until 6 DP either...

    Well, you don't exactly need a 14f punish in this game too often. Having a launch for -15 is plenty good. I just wanted to point out that you can also punish some lows with 236P (like Lions 41236P) and 66K (18f) for a bit more oomph.

    I guess 6PP is the go-to low punish at 16f with no drinks.

    Judging from PSN Shun's, 1P K (14f) is like the only punish anyone ever uses. :) (but hey, it launches at major CH after 7 DPs)

    Good tips from everyone! but what about when you get rushed with a combo or when a Sarah player is doing all those flamingo stances and applying pressure how do safely get out of those I found out that 1P+K+G, P+K can evade and punish but you got to time it exact.

    I play little Sarah, but according to Sarah's move list these Flamingo moves have minus frames for guaranteed punishing:

    P 2K = -13
    KKKK = -15
    6KK = -13
    7K = -28
    2/8 P+K = -10
    6 K+G = -15
    2 K+G = -16
    2K (BT) = -16

    Note that all -10 and more can be punished by throw (attempt) too.

    You can see Sarah's all punishable moves with their respective recovery frames in this video and look at Shun's punishment attacks written in this thread (which I'm sure are not complete):

    PUNISHING LIST !!!

    This should be a very comprehensive punishing list for characters with key moves AND combos that work on specific character up to 8 DP! The list is written with three characters in a post to improve readability. Please note that with many moves the exact punishable frames depend on the distance, so you may not always get a hit you are hunting for. Dojo things out first if you do not get in the supposed punish. Please also note that even though moves like Pai's or DS Vane's 2K does allow -15 punish, they have additional follow-ups that kill the punish. So keep this in mind when interpreting the list.

    Throw punishment works from -10 and has universal damage scaling system depending on DP count. In addition, specific combos from Shun's 6P+G and 63214P+G throws depend on opponent and DP count too and the highest dmg options are later added here from the combo list section for some punishment planning (since a single throw escape can always be entered). I'll note the minimal required DP count for these as well.

    EDIT: Added throw punishable moves (thx Erdraug for the suggestion!). I'll try to get into adding some missed throw attacks punishes and those 10+ DP punishes in the near future too.

    LEGEND:
    Damage is noted in descending order from highest to lower (others are noted for various other benefits like easy exe, carry, oki, DP or just pure variety). I note standing and crouching punishment separately, as opponent's standing and crouching states demand specific punishes. That minus [-] in front of the frame number simply means the minus frames on block of moves mentioned after (guaranteed frames with point blank range) and the next line is the whole punisher with blue CH damage and special requirements (Closed/Open stance and/or Shun's DP requirement) noted. A few of the noted punishers do not give blue CH but still do connect.

    vs Taka at 8 dp you can punish -16 and up with

    236PP, 43P+K,P for 65 dmg (one point more than 1P+K, 6_PP4PP)

    from closed stance you can do 236P, 6K+G, fast dash 43P+K,P for 73 dmg

    For -17 with 11 dp you can do 214P+K, 6K+G, 43P+K,P from both stances for 78 dmg but you lose 4dp for doing so.

    I'll do the 10+ DP combos last, since they are such a chore to test. Also as a side note, I leave out certain universal rising kicks (-15) and throw class (-10) as they are universal. Keep in mind that some moves give less block frames when executed from further away (or may have more pushback). For example Jacky's 46K+G may end at -14 when blocked at the point of the ankle and his 9K pushes faaar away, so remember to evaluate the range and dash quickly if you have lots of frames to spare. There is <66> when a dash is recommended. And last I'd agree that yeah, whiff punishing is often vandalously better, but block punishing works (nearly) everytime! Let's continue.

    Since I see people try it sometimes online I think it's worth noting that fl 2/8p+k is not throw punishable, immediate throw attempts will whiff. Maybe a throw with really long range like giant swing will work but in general it doesn't.

    @Neonomide: Good job, very detailed.

    A couple of (vane related) stuff:

    Is there a reason Shun can't use his [1][P][+][K] to punish OS [2][K][+][G] (it recovers standing) ?

    Maybe mention that DS & OS [2][K] have followups (so trying to punish will probably end with shun getting punched?).

    You're missing the DS jump > [K] sweep, which actually gets some mileage since it knocks down on NH.

    Last question is not vane specific: may i ask why you're skipping -10 moves for all characters (a vane example would be OS [3][P][+][K][K]). Afterall, they do guarantee a throw attempt, it's better than nothing.

    BTW i just noticed i'm in your sig quote (complete with typos :oops:) so double thumbs up :D

    Thanks! I actually left out many jumping attacks, since I figured out this was the first draft version and leaving those out made the completion faster. I'm gonna add them, sure. I'll add the -10 moves as well, point taken. :ninja:

    Regarding Vane's OS 2K+G, 1P+K actually eats it, fixed. I guess I should note the moves with natural followups at least in explanation section too. I try to fixlook at these before going into 10+ DP punishes, which gets duper interesting. :eek:
