Hello Everybody jimi Claymore here, the other day we were doing some research (with Paul68kdmd) with the rollback settings in room match.

So there is a surprise at the end of the research.

So this are the results from the test:

    Performance 0 frames of delay

This is how i'm going to show you the data:

Delay frames, Rollback Frames and Ping

    Jimi

    0 6 107

    Paul

    0 6 110

0 frames of delay, the result was a lot of teleports and i don't think you should(or can play with this settings)

    Now with
    Balance 2 of delay

    Jimi

    Paul

    2 4 115

    2 2 105 and 2 3 102

it wasn't great you can still get some teleport from the opponent, but overall i think you can play this if you love hard reads.

    Quality 6 frames of delay

    6 0 118

    6 0 110

No teleports in this one and it was playable from both sides.

    OFF

    Jimi

    6 0 118

    Paul

    6 0 110

Tbh i thought this was going to be a really bad option, but... it was the best, even with 6 frames of delay it feels a little better than Quality, maybe you want to try that for yourself.

It seems that it adjust the game to get the most playable experience? or maybe is just delay based?

But in my ranking it was like this

    OFF>Quality>Balance>>Performance

Again 6 frames of delay can be too much for some players...

Now this is the interesting part of the research, we did this settings:

    Jimi with OFF settings

    6 0 118

    Paul with Performance 0

    0 6 110

From my end i got delay but it was playable, Paul said that it was unplayable with a lot of teleports

We did the same but Paul doing OFF and me doing performance 0 and it was the same now i got the teleports and Paul was playing fine.

This means that the teleports are not a opponent's problem here but mostly a problem with your own settings.

So thanks a lot for reading all of this, i encourage you to share your own results, maybe you can teach me something new too!;)

Yeah, Quality was the better one for me too instead of balanced. Haven't tried OFF since that sounded stupid for me but I guess I should try that too.

I forgot what my settings are at, but. It's so strange how some times the first match or first few rounds will feel great. Then it randomly starts doing the choppy stuff and stays like that for the match. Not sure exactly how to explain it, but I'm sure everyone has experienced it. It's like a camera taking a bunch of photos really fast.

Maybe you want to look at your Rollback frames, sometimes if you add more delay frames it can help the experience a bit.

Purposely add delay to my inputs? Are you mad? Lol, just joking. I may dabble with it. But if the match starts fine, it's gotta be something else messing up the match (I'm talking out of my ass there). Sometimes, it'll start doing it after a few matches with the same person. When it does it, it stays until our next match. Weird stuff.

I'm using 3 or 4f of delay. 6f is too much IMO, 3 or 4 isn't too much delay and handles a wide range of connections that are all playable.

Ima try 3. I don't like adding delay to my inputs, but I'll try it to see if it helps at all because it sucks when that weird chopiness starts happening, even on a green connection (after waiting 5+ seconds to see).

Even with what I have it at, I seem to have a hard time getting the moves I want when the round starts. Probably just me, but I always feel like I my inputs were too early, even though I don't think I was, lol. I'm currently using Pai and Jacky, and I have a hard time even doing a 6P at the start of the round. Could just be me, though...

The positive is that it says it's still in beta. So hopefully sooner than later they can figure out what's causing good connections to randomly go bad after a few matches or rounds.

@Tha_FeauchA bro, how did you fare with 3F of delay in this 2.01 patch? Talk about your experience with other settings too, please. I'm Brazilian and I have to adjust my settings because the big distance between me and most VF players but, at the same time, I don't want to diverge much from the undelayed input timings.

After lowering my graphic settings, I still had missing frames in ranked. Today, after changing the frame delay from 2 to 3, I experienced no issues.

I've only tried 10 or so matches, but. I can't tell if anything has really changed or if it's just by chance on who I'm playing against. I think a real test would be to play against the same person with different settings. Like Jimi did.

I did have less of the weird chopiness or it wasn'tas strong. Even though it still showed up. This was while I was in a room against 1 random player.

So yeah, had a bunch of matches with rollback set to off, and it feels "better". Dunno if that is simply a placebo effect, but as of right now it works for me.

Tried with 3 frames in a match against a player with green connection. None of my 16 previous matches with the standard 2 frames setting were flawless, but this one was by far the worst —the first time I experience the infamous teleporting opponent.
Of course, it was a brand new opponent so it might be just a coincidence that changing the frames happens just before I get the first horribly performing match, but I wonder, how reliable is the color code for connections, really? Does it even alert against wifi like Fightcade does?

EDIT: Today I found the other thread speaking of how the game takes a good few seconds before displaying the actual color corresponding the connection quality; I refused at least seven red matches until finding an orange one: it was disgusting, like playing with a blindfold because what was being shown on the screen was completely unreliable. I really hope they are working on improving the netcode.

So far, my best experience has been with balanced and 2 frame Rollback. Turning off rollback and setting it to 0 gives me far too much delay.

When I'm with someone green, it's really good. But there's also random times where the game will get slow down or whatever. Like the game can't keep up. The announcer will say "READY" but the screen is still showing the words "Round 3". This is when playing the same person in a room. Had around 30 matches, but only 2 of them got weird in the middle of the match.

What you're describing sounds like what I had to deal with for a while, but it wasn't related to online, it was a rendering issue, often happening during camera changes. Updating graphics drivers helped resolve it for me in the end. Your issue doesn't sound related to rollback to me, unless I've misunderstood.

Will like to do more tests. Some observations I want to further test to see if it is repeatable with others or just per individual base.
