RUMOR MILL: Hardware change for VF4FT?

I don't really want to feed the rumormongers, but this is too potentially interesting to not comment upon.

This Japanese arcade game news site has a list of all the games shown at the recent AOU show, including VF4FT. It also notes the type of hardware everything is supposedly running upon. What's interesting is the hardware listing for VF4FT... Chihiro.

This site seems pretty reliable, and considering this comment Osaki made in Ali and I's interview:

    [ QUOTE ]
Mr. Osaki: Basically, we've been going with the Chihiro hardware because it's the most powerful out there, even more so than the Naomi 2, and its cost is similar. On a pure cost to performance basis, Chihiro gives the most bang for the buck.

    [/ QUOTE ]

VF4FT on Chihiro doesn't seem too much of a stretch, no? It seems like Sega is finished with the Naomi2 now anyway... and you noticed how the promo reel didn't show any backgrounds? Perhaps they're all being retooled to take advantage of new hardware.

I'd say something like this happening is "very likely." But I can't confirm a damn thing, because obviously, I'm not working for Sega...

If it IS the Chihiro, I think we can pretty much expect an XB port over the PS2.

And if that's the case then you likely will see a console port within a year after the japanese arcade release. I just can't imagine them re-re-releasing VF4 on the PS2.

I wonder how significally better is Chihiro than the naomi 2, outrun 2 does look nice though! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Sega may actually force me ino buying an X-brick /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
(Grr they should have used Triforce and brought it out on cube! /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I'd love to see VFFT on xbox. Sega just needs to be convinced that it will actually sell (especially in japan). /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

This would be pretty stupid as it would mean every single arcade would need to buy new hardware or refit cabinets in order to run this update.

Actually hmm, financialy speaking it might be quite good for Sega.

They did that with VF3, there rule was buy the board and buy the cabnet aswell, most ppl then never bothered with VF3 cuz of the price...suppose model 3 was expensive at the time

You forget that changing the hardware/innards of Japanese cabinets (particulary those manufactured by Sega themselves) is pretty easy. Getting more Chihiro systems out there might be part of a bigger plan, too, since the Naomi systems are being retired...

Of course, this is all speculation at this point.

This will be the last thing that happens before the demonic Satan-worshippers at Sammy kill all that is holy and good at Sega's game divisions and turn them into a pachinko mill.

IF YOU BUY ATOMISWAVE, THE TERRORISTS HAVE ALREADY WON

I read in H4rDk0R3_G4M3R8977's Livejournal that VF4FT is, in fact, going to come out AT THE SAME TIME AS THE NINTENDO DS. OMG THE CONNECTION IS SO THERE!!!!1

Xbox can go to hell ! ...

    ...

    until Halo 2 comes out...

hopefully, they'll leave VF on PS2. most people in Japan own PS2s anyway, right?

I'd be willing to bet that rumour is bs. Why transfer an update of an existing game over to new hardware when both boards cost the same and there's no real performance benefit?

Atomiswave is Naomi/Dreamcast technology board, so I'll strongly doubt that VF5 would be based on something like that when they have even the Naomi 2 board available and more powerful.

I guess he was making a dire sarcastic joke, nevermind, better than cursing FT before actually playing the thing.

I was replying to the post about development on Final Tuned being shifted to Chichiro. As nice as Outrun 2 looks I fail to see how this board is more powerful than Naomi 2, and why Sega would bother going to the trouble of porting an update to this hardware..

hmmm ever seen virtua cop 3? that game is pretty nice. runs on chihiro.. maybe sega will incorporate a "bullet time" mode into vf5!
(note; this last remark was sarcastic)

Not doubting the power of the chichiro board, just saying it's not any better than Naomi 2.

Btw, I thought Virtus Cop 3 was one of the worst coin-ops Sega have released. Unlike VC 1 & 2, it was unresponisve, dull and didn't even run at a consistent frame-rate. I think the best game on chichiro is definately Outrun 2.
