I believe 'delight' must have a different meaning for what he said. Maybe it was meant to be something like pride, strength, etc... Like do you feel you surpass your opponent very much when you beat him?? ...you gotta read closely. He doesn't feel thrilled during the match itself (presumably because he's too busy concentrating on winning, and getting too excited about doing something right may cause him to lose focus). But afterwards he can assess the win and maybe feel pleased at particular parts of the last match.
