I use Akira too, whats your point? Its all in the mindset, and good fingers. I only use the pad too. I cant find one, dont care to have one that much, and I dont think I can get used to it.

Calvin, whats with all your one liner replies? You have SO MANY of them.

but "sad" enough to go to a message board about the game and have the audacity to call the hardcore players "sad"

All I meant was that it must have been hard to get good at Akira with a pad.

EMX: who did I call "sad?" Or were you even talking to me?

..I use a pad because I can't press more than two buttons at once......the very thought makes me confused and itchy.....

You just need practice. All the akira moves and combos that people perform with a stick you can do with a pad now. Reaction and execution time might be off a bit but other than that a pad is very doable. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

I use a pad coz they don't sell Hori's sticks where I live(only Shadowblades and some other cheap $20 ones) and I'm too broke ass to order one.

In the beginning when I used a pad, I could do most of the standard Akira stuff consistently. Unfortunately, after a few hours of playing, my thumb always felt like somebody hit it with a sledgehammer. That's when I finally decided to get a stick.....much easier on the thumbs. /versus/images/icons/shocked.gif

The same thing happened to me but it's the other way around. I am so use to using a pad that when I'd started playing at CTF consistently my entire right wrist started hurting like hell so much that I had to bandage it with athletic tape to gave it support. I'm being serious, since the buttons are more spread on a stick layout that when I press the buttons it requires much more force. And I think that my wrist absorbed a lot of the force improperly. /versus/images/icons/frown.gif

The buttons shouldn't require that much force.

look, i mean, why spend 30 quid or whatever to get slightly better at a game?
it's stupid. Pad's come withthe Ps2 and are small.
joy sticks are clumsy big expensive things. the boards cost nothing, i barely post (i did at first, but now i don't care) anyway.
    and as for "Hardcore Gamers":
that's another word for sad no-life friendless(or friends with other nerds) geeks. Play football or go out or something.

That's hilarious... just because you're too cheap to get a stick, everyone else who has one is a "friendless loser". Whereas if you had the time and money to own an upright arcade machine and stick it in your flat, I bet you would.

Well I am currently using a pad, because my InterAct stick broke on me... saddest moment of my life. Hopefully I will be getting a Hori stick soon enough.

And as for the whole loser geek thing. You know what you're right! I'm one of the geekiest alive! Hell I'm class rep for the Game Design course at my college. But I don't know if you've noticed that geeks a in power right now. What are three of the more popular movies to come out in the last year or so? The two LoD movies and Spiderman. Geeky enough? If not look at the music scene; sloan, Sum 41, Weezer all huge geeks. And finally video games are grossing more money world wide than any other media except for TV.

So if you wanna call me a geek go right ahead, but we are dictating the trends. Oh and I am the VP of the Student Council for the college also, so no, geeks are no longer basement dwellers.

Dude, some people like to play with an arcade stick because it's more fun. It's just part of the gameplay to use that stick and move your character around (Along with pressing those big buttons). Just my 2 cents....
