VF5 on PS3 - what you'd like to see for next-gen.

Like the rest of you i'm obviously waiting in anticipation for VF5's rumoured release in Spring 2007 on the PS3.

Obviously i would expect Sega and Am2 to produce a wonderful, authentic port of the arcade game that looks and plays bang on perfect to the arcade version.

But what are peoples wishlists specific to a PS3 console port in terms of features for next-gen virtua fghter, when considering how awesome Vf4: Evo turned out to be?

Do we want "quest mode" to reappear, but look and feel next gen somehow? I know i do. The Quest mode in VF4: Evo was like a genre defining system idea that sent shockwaves through the fighting world. You see it emulated to some degree by Tekken.

Do we want online play? Yes, i do too! issues of lag and system networks while a concern, should hopefully be investigated.

What about ideal specifics? How could a Ps3 version emulate and reproduce the look and feel of playing VF5 at the arcades? Could VF TV be incorporated online? Should the console game have console exclusive items, or even a couple of new combat moves, or tweaks?

I have my own list of things i epxect to see in a PS3 version of this game, ranging from tutorial/practise options and through to character customisation (and i'll find some time to post them later).

    What are your wishes?

I would not like to say any differences between arcade and console as far as movelists, and I'm sure it would cause a fairly strong outrage if it meant that the console version could not be used parallel to the arcade version in competitive play.

Online play is something you'll get very divided views on - I wouldn't like it at all. I've played many fighting games both online and in person, and the feel is substantially different. Physical limitations mean no matter how well something is programmed, there will always be some delay between when you input something and when the opponent knows you've inputted it, and that will take a lot away from the game no matter how its dealt with.

Purists might want to steer clear of online play then to save their egos being bruised, but for the rest of us VF5 fans who don't live near arcades, online play that mimics the virtual feel of being at a Japanese arcade waiting for your turn to fight a combatant in a "winner stays on" style set-up (a la Dead Or Alive 4).

Online Versus mode would be a huge plus considering that online play is a staple of modern gaming and really the way to take next-gen fighting. If they incorporated VF TV in a virtual arcade type set-up, i think i'd be in VF heaven! To use an online space or lobby as a meeting room to link up with VF tournament players from around the world would be nothing short of fantastic.

Think about meeting up and playing all the guys here. Wow, i'm salivating at the idea, even if i get my butt handed to me on a plate.

Well, I hope some of sega's official sees this thread coz I think it's very important for the sales of the game.

Here is the list wish I have
    - First most importantly I want the game to be an arcade perfect in every aspect (graphics, game play etc…)
    - I want them to return all of the feature that VF4EVO had. If not better at least the same.
    - Although I consider an online play to be a very bad option (from the view of a hardcore VF player). I think putting it won't hurt anybody. Specially that no hard core VF player is gonna take it seriously, and there wont be real tourneys on it. More than that it will bring the casual gamer on buying the game just coz there is an online play option.
    - I want endings in the game. Not necessarily to be part of the story but some thing like VF kids maybe.
    - Some bonus games. Preferably to be some kind of a sport game (volleyball, soccer, baseball etc…) that can also be played online.
    - A limited edition of the game won't hurt any body, specially the hard core VF players. Put some kind of "The Making of VF5 DVD" a poster, a soundtrack and some cool looking figures maybe.

I hope that SEGA hears my wish list.

Well, I don't know about some ideas you guys have, but here are mine:

    1. Online. Lag aside, it's simply an extra feature that will at least give me some human competition. Sure, it won't be anything serious, no tourneys (obviously) and you can't really have bragging rights, but it will be fun. At least, they should do a VFTV thing online. Also have meeting places (message boards) where people can setup tourneys or discuss the game or what was shown on VFTV. Make VFDC practically useless... /versus/images/graemlins/lol.gif

    2. Some extra VS features. Perhaps have a tournament setup for VS so that someone could host a tourney at home and the game can keep all the round robin and preliminaries data in the game (instead of some paper). Or a team battle mode, or tag team, etc...

    3. More of everything that VF4 evo had (quest, training, items). Also have downloadable items. Also, since an HDD is standard, it would be nice to have a ton of different character profiles to be accessible.

i.e. If you have a 3 friends who play Akira, they can access all 3 without the need to switch any data around (and since it's an HDD, it should be able to hold a ton of different character profiles). Which brings me to another point...

    4. Downloadable Ghost files and character profiles. If someone is going down to SOCAL for a tourney, the host of the tourney can just go online and download all the profiles of the players attending instead of everyone using a USB device or memory card to transfer the data. And to prepare for the tourney, players can download the ghost files of the players who will attend the gathering to practice.

That's about it. Basically, most of these features are just about making VS mode better and more enjoyable, making tourneys easier to host and having more practice against human competition (the ghost files). I would also like to see basic stuff like having customizable wallpaper (such as using your own pics for it). Which brings me to my final, and most minor wish for VF5 on PS3.

    5. Customizable stages. Maybe have a stage builder (that we can upload online so other users can enjoy it). Have our own music play in it. If it's not an in game song, then players would have to download that very song onto their HDD to use it, to know what song is specific to that stage, players can write descriptions for their stage to alow players to find out what song is recommended. Now, we should also be able to play our own songs from the HDD during the game (menus, loading screen and stages can all get specific songs). To build the stage, we could paint it and everything.

Here is my gameplay wishlist for VF 6:

Taunts. That's it (other than more moves and stuff). I think they would be awesome in a game like this since they would be so rare. If someone would execute a taunt during the finals of a tourney and win...Well, it would just make that victory that much sweeter. And if they lost because of the taunt...

Well, you shouldn't be so cocky then now should you. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

And of course, be able to customize taunts would rock too.

1st thing - possibility to load 2 profiles from 2 sources. Not like VF4Evo, where profile was possible to load only from one memory card. So 2 profiles, to allowe both players to play matches and record them into their own profile.
An maybe possibility to keep your profiles online.

2nd - very nice will be if your profile (maybe not in terms of rank, but in terms of customization and winratio or something like that) will be possible to share between arcades and PS3 version

3rd - if your PS3 will be online, gain all arcade online capabilities. Including possibility to let your vs match to be rendered. And possibility to save matches on your memory card/HDD must be definitely be there. VF.tv must be there for sure /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

4th - let online VS be in. All arguments are in this thread.

5th - Made ghosts of players, which will be better that they ever was /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

6th - a little improved free training mode. Especially that thing, taht it will stop "play" of recorded moves if you will reset your position /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

7th - bonus games like VF1-3 will be nice /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

personally id love a much larger quest mode, with more challenges.. i mean the final arcade in vf4 was fairly difficult, but id like something that would keep me going for a long time. one of the things i love about vf4 is the fact you have to go through arcades, finish the challenges, and earn your items (mostly so anyway) i wasnt suited by tekken 5's item system - earning cash to spend on items rather than a difficult quest order.

i also think there should be a database that players can download optionally (online etc) that gives background info on how intermediate/advanced players think and play, of course not exposing all secrets.. hmm maybe there should be an "online only" set of items you can earn by gaining points from defeating other players. maybe a bit like the icon system in vf4, but with more depth.

1- Come back to the individually saved characters. None of this saving all the characters so you can't bring your own character to fight against your friends crap.

2- Fuck off with the nescesity to play Quest to get items. I want my character to have actual stats. I don't want him to have 300+ wins that are against the AI because I wanted a certain bottle. They should find away to let people unlock items at the same pace in VS as they would in the single player mode.

3- I don't care about online. I might be the only one to say this, but I'm fuckin' starting to hate online console games. I want to play with my budy that's on the same fuckin' couch but I have to get another TV and system to play coop now? Fuck off.

Poppa, starting the 8th of august, and every Tuesday after that, we'll host a little VF session for who ever wants to play VF in the Mtl region. You won't even notice VF5 doesn't have online Vs /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    ditto on the separate profiles.

    1) For those of us that do console tourneys each player having a separate profile on separate memory cards is a big, very big deal.

    2) Also it would be kewl if we can still save replays but be able to view them from different camera angles.

    3) Also The AI feature in VF4 is very useful (once you learn how to use it) I hope they bring it back!!!!

    4) I'd like to also see more statistics in each fighter profile, similar to what is in VF4. The VF4 Evo dropped(changed) how the statistics were presented.

Cool, I start school the 22, so maybe I could pass by after I finish. I remember in a topic on the Jamboree board that you own cats...

Alright, cool. I can't pass by because of work. But once I start school, I'll try to get Tuesdays off.

I'll post any questions on the Jamboree board.

I would've liked to have seen (and this may seem a little crazy and asking for a bit much) a little summary after each quest fight.

Now here are the details of the idea I have:

    1. The option to choose when to view the data of the fights. e.g. every 1 match, every 5 matches or 10, etc...

    2. The summary has a...

"In match 1(X fighter (you) vs Y fighter (CPU (or 2P)), the following happened...The following needs to be improved...The following was done well...Here's your attack patterns (low/mid/high attack percentages)...Here's you biggest combo/biggest damage...Your favorite attack...Here's some suggestions in general...Here's some suggestions for this particular character you fought...Here's what you should do to get better (makes suggestions of what tutorial section to go and practice)...In match 2, etc..."

...type of format. This format is really for the beginners to get better.

    3. You could use it in VS mode as well. And it could show it for each player (1P and 2P).

    4. Now that PS3 has an HDD standard, you could save the "report sheets" to the HDD to view them later, as well as the replays of the fights, as well as the Frame data (I know you could view the frame data during the review, but I'm saying as a separate sheet, sorta like a flow chart).

I would also like to be able to edit the flowcharts and make my own from scratch. I would like to have the option to select a stage and view the fighters act out the flowchart. Also, be able to edit it during the fight. Basically, just have a ton of cool flow chart options. This is mostly for the advanced players.

    5. We could upload them online for others to view and even print them (if we transfer them to our computer to print).

    6. I would've liked to have seen some more options with the "record actions" options on free training.

    Some of my thoughts:

    * Combine Quest and Tutorial mode for VF5, so for every new arcade you first have to complete a set of excercises that you then have to perform directly in matches in the following arcade.

    * A point system for playing correctly instead of Quest orders and earning gold in prize matches. If you for example perform a DTEG in a throw counterable situation the game will acknowledge that on screen and give you points for it. Points will be given for other things like performing max damage combos and such.

I like that point system idea. They could even give you a grade like in Street Fighter 3rd Strike. And, you know, a report card like in my idea.

Coupling that to items is a damn fine idea.

    Jeneric:
Combining Quest and Tutorial modes could get rather annoying. Especially for the lesser gods among us. On the other and it forces you to use techniques that you wouldn't have thought of beforehand. It would indeed improve your skills, or at least the speed with which people pick such things up, but it would also cause people to abandon the game. Rather a double edged sword if you ask me.

On the profiles, we should be able to load any number of profiles from any source. If my I have a relative who only play at my house we should be able to play each other on our profiles on my memory device. While at the same time if I have a friend with his own profile I should be able to load my profile from my device while he loads his own profile from his memory device.
