What's the best ipod like device?

I've been looking for a gift for my sister's B-day, and I've been looking to buy her one of these things.

I was wondering what the best product out there is. It doesn't have to be an ipod (it can be, if you think that is the best out there). I've been looking at the Creative Zen Vision:M.

    What are your recommendations?

You may assume that price isn't an issue.

    Thank a lot!

Those Creative players are pretty nifty. Good choice. Will your sis actually make use of it's features? Be sure to explain what she can actually do with it so in event she can utilize it to it's full potential. (watching video on the train, recording voice, line in, etc.) She'll love it.

Edit: Oh I was just thinking, Since women like cute things have you considered the smaller Zen V Plus? Same features (smaller capacity. 4gb max) and of course nice colors.

    Hmmmm...Cute...completely fogot about that.

I think 4 Gb might be too small for her though. I'm liking the Zen Vision:M more and more, I just got a few more concerns:

    1. I saw that some of the Iriver ones had a text viewer. What kind of text are we talking about (only .txt)? Stuff like lyrics? And can this be added later on with a firmware update to the ZVM?

    2. I read that the ZVM doesn't have a replaceable battery. Is this a concern? I read a customer review that it only has a 500 charge cycle, does this mean that after it gets charged 500 times, the player is pretty much finished (since there's no replaceable battery)?

    3. I heard that a 60Gb version of the ZVM is coming out soon. Is it worth waiting for or is 30 Gb plenty?

    4. If you could get any player you want in the world for free, would it be the ZVM?

    Also, what's line in?

P.S. If you recommend something, be sure it can do audio and video playback. Is there anything from iriver that offers both?

I have the ZVM. I really like it a lot. I've never heard of the 500 charge cycle problem before. I've had this for about 5 months now. I think 30Gb is plenty. I like using this as a hdd also.

The price right now is pretty good for it. I think the 60Gb would be a $100 more expensive. Not too sure.

You say you like using it as an HDD...Do you mean sorta of like a USB device to transfer data from your PC at home and bring it to wherever?

e.g. You write an essay and rather than sending it via e-mail to yourself to print it out at school, you copy it into your ZVM, bring it to school and copy it on the school PC.

Do you need special software to use that? i.e. a program on your PC to use this feature (do you need it for both PC's)?

Anyways, I think I've finally decided. I'm going to get her the Creative Zen Vision:M 30 GB MP3 and Video Player (White). I'll also get her an AC adapter (I don't think it comes with one), a screen protector and one of those carrying cases (to protect it if she drops it). I think that's enough. I'll get her some nice headphones for Christmas. I think that's all the she should need. If you have any accessories to recommend me, that would be awesome. Nothing fancy, just stuff that she could really use.

I still don't have any clue what "line in" is though. I searched for it on google and couldn't find anything useful.

    Thanks a lot guys!!

Yeah using the hdd for bringing programs or clips to show your friends.

You have to have the specific Creative software (or maybe other software I'm not aware of) to make into video clips, mp3s in there or doing other functions. If you're just using for the USB-hdd function, I think you can plug it in any computer and it'll auto-detect as a hdd. I've had a few problems with computers that can detect but cannot edit or use at all. So you're just seeing those files and not being able to do anything. These are only rare cases, espeically happening to friend's computers that sucks.

Just FYI, definetely get the screen protector and the special casing. It's very worth it. I regret I didnt get mine earlier. Mine's all scratched up already. Also, I received my AC adaptor with my ZVM.

Wait for Zune if you can...the wait will be worth it. If not, consider the iRiver Clix.
