I am currently pursuing many things about the TAO TE CHING.

A true VF master understands that when the heart knows no danger, no danger exists. When the soul becomes the warrior, all fear melts, as the snowflake that falls upon your hand. A true master knows that where there is no contention, there is neither defeat nor victory. The supple willow does not contend against the storm, yet it survives. Weakness prevails over strength. Gentleness conquers. Become the calm and restful breeze that tames the violent sea.

A true master does not contend, therefore no one can contend against him. Yield and overcome. What will happen, will happen. Whether one is afraid or not

The link that I have been looking at the most lately:

Once again, I have to say, "I LOVE Masterpo!!!"

He is the true monk of VFDC. I can see that Masterpo is a very wise man.

I can't understand why SFIV is considered two-dimensional here. It's clear to me that with this fourth installment Capcom has stepped over from 2-D with pre-baked backgrounds and sprites to 3-D with three-dimensional polygon models and environments.

With Virtua Fighter I in 1993 AM2 made the first 3-D fighter on the same fundament. One couldn't evade into the third dimension (until VF2) but everything was rendered in 3-D. That's what a 3-D fighter is.

Also, I watched some SFIV gameplay vids earlier where Dhalsim could evade (literally step aside) projectiles.

Dhalsim can evade, not sidestep. It's just like the evading that was in early KOF games and Extra mode in KOF98, but you wouldn't call them 3D, would you?

I class SFIV as 2D because there is no third dimension. The camera may change for some of the openings, winposes, command throws and Ultras, but everything else is on a 2D plane.

In the first VF, you could move into the third dimension if you were knocked down and did a side roll.

I know it's been awhile, but I finally got to reading that link. It was a good read, but sadly, alot of the stuff I don't quite understand at all, atleast not yet. Though the excerpts specifically talking to Zhuangzi were the easiest to somewhat understand.

Do you have any more links to stuff like this?

Not exactly sure but I think Blanka has a similar move in SF4 where he lays real low to the ground to avoid projectiles.

It isn't his slide punch is it? He had that in Alpha 3 (pretty sure I've seen it in 4) and it would go under most projectiles.

No I'm not talking about Blanka's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif fierce punch which he does have. He has had that since ST.

    It's a unique move by doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

Just for the record I class a 3D fighter as a fighter which doesn't fight on a 2D plane.

If you can sidestep then it's 3D.

nit pick to be sure but VF, even with an evade, constantly relegates it's fighters to a 2D rail. it's 3D only insofar as you get to see and experience the whole ring. Otherwise it's back and forth, back and forth.

    So VF1 to 2, Tekken 1 to 3 weren't 3D fighters? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

If it has 3d hit detection, it's a 3d fighter.

VF, especially VF5, is not on a 2d rail. It tends to move back towards a 2d rail, but there are plenty of circumstances where the characters go off-axis for significant amounts of time - evading strings, OM around attacks/throws, etc.
