    for me- diappointing= DMC4
im a huge dmc fan and that game was horrible -.-
it was actually WORSE then dmc3 combat wise... and nero is a horrible character right now. also the story itself is really bad :/.

best game- hmmm sadly i dont have a ps3 so i cant play mgs4 and such :*(
i whud have to say VF5 because i ALSO got it this year. and its amazing lol

other then that... no games were rele all that great /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

PS- Dead space wasnt rele that great. it was ok first time through but it has little to no replay value IMO...
i BOUGHT IT TOO which pisses me off.. i wish i rented it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

DMC4 was good, but dissapointing to me also. The story was very forgettable.

Most disappointing game: grand theft auto 4

It simply hasnt evolved from its earlier versions nearly at all. It plays exactly the same. In addition I happen to have a strong dislike of all things 'gangsta'. Today I had almost forgotten this game existed.

I cant think of anything to put to the 'best game' spot.

EDIT: ok, guitar hero world tour was even MORE disappointing than GTA4, because it actually took a turn for the worse rather than standing still like GTA.

Game of the year 2008 goes to No More Heroes for me, great game & i'm suprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread earlier.

Oh and I still stand by HAZE as most dissapointing of '08, especially now Free Radical died cause of it. No Timesplitters 4 for me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Feck, it has- Jemun posted it. I'm in agreement with both of you though. NMH was my favourite game of 2008 as well (for me, it really wasn't that great a year for new games).

I had written something about my biggest disappointment of 2008, but never posted it, I'll do so now: Ninja Gaiden 2

Because I loved the first 3D NG game, I was hoping that this one would give me the same enjoyment. It didn't. The whole game felt rushed, there were numerous amounts of slowdown, dodgy camera, several bugs (like giving you too many life extend items that can't be used) and the storyline was just abysmal. It was obvious Itagaki was on his way out.

To be fair, the first Ninja Gaiden's storyline started falling apart towards the end, but it was nowhere near as bad or as pointless as that of the sequel. What was the point of Sonia (aside from the obvious reason)? Anyone?

I think what really bugged me was the fact that it didn't feel the same. Often when I died I felt like I had been cheated, which didn't happen in the first one. The boss fights weren't at all interesting, instead only tedious.

It's probably my own fault for hyping it up too much before it was released.

My game of 2008: Culdcept SAGA. Don't laugh.

My disappointing game: Sins of a Solar Empire. Didn't care for it at all, even if it is good.

    Best of 2008:

Mount and Blade; I've been playing the game in it's beta stages for several years and the final product is truly awesome.

Valkyria Chronicles; I haven't touched it in a while due to the fact X-Files/SF2HDR has been taking up almost all PS3 time, this is a work of art that I must comeback to soon.

Street Fighter 4; seeing this in the arcade and playing around with it has re-sparked my interest in the genre. Hella fun.

    (slight) Disappointment of 2008:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky; I'm only sad because the awesome lighting effects need to be toned down in order for it to work. Otherwise, awesome.

    Worst of 2008:

No idea, the above are the only games from this year that I've tried.

    Valkyria Chronicles?

I've heard about this one, but didn't know anybody who played it.
    How long is gameplay?

Whatelse does it compare to or is it in a class by itself?

I thought Fallout 3 was one of the best or THE best of 2008.

I had a little under 30 hours on the game clock when I beat it the first time (doesnt include saving / reloading, which I didnt do much of). There are 23 main storyline missions, 5 sidestory missions, and ~ 9x3 skirmish missions (no story, can be replayed indefinitely). Avg time per mission is around 1 ~ 1.5 hours for the more involved ones. Replayability is pretty high, already 2/3 of the way through my second playthrough & I can easily see myself playing it through several more times

You can make silly comparisons like "final fantasy tactics xx gears of war" but it's in a class by itself, for sure. Obviously I'm biased but I honestly think it's the best single player game of this century.

u need to play dmc3 and ninja gaiden 1 if you think the sequels were that good..

also ya NG2 was EVEN MORE of a letdown then dmc4 now that i think about it.
the gameplay was rele stupid it was basically just ultimate technique and obliteration technique spamming since u NEEDED there invinsibility frames or it was impossible to play...

yah both DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden are better than the sequels. He did put DMC4 and NG2 as best game of '08 though, DMC3 and NG are a little older than that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Fallout 3 is probably my fave of this year. It has everything I missed in Oblivion and lacks everything I hated about Oblivion really. Add that to the fact I already was a Fallout fan and dig the whole vaultboy/pipboy/vault/geck madness and you can come to a fairly logical conclusion. To hell with the main story, its still better than Oblivion's contrived tripe.

Worst is a hard choice, I'm very picky on what games I buy. Condemned 2 I guess, put it away after a couple of hours and haven't looked at it since. Just make Blood 3 already Monolith, we've been waiting long enough now!

IMO there where no outstanding games to come out in 2008 (GoW 2 complete letdown) so i just picked the games I enjoyed the most playing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

My only game that I bought this year was ninja gaiden 2, I think was the best game that came out but also a disappointment. I had such high expectations for it, because NG black is one of the best games of all time.

the story is even sillier than in the original

the gameplay is really awesome if it werent for the fps issues( the camera doesnt bother me that much, most of the time xD)

from NG 2 i got one of my most memorable gaming moments when fighting through the staircase of doom when the game ran at like 5fps

everything is in slow-mo and theres is this unlimited horde of spider ninjas running down, Im using the dual katanas and start slaying them one after one, obliteration move after obliteration move and UT after UT, there is heads and limbs and blood flying everywhere , very stylish in slow-mo

im performing an obliteration move and when the camera switches so that I see downstairs, theres a legless guy dragging himself up the stairs and throwing shurikens at me while im decapitating this other guy and more enemies just rush down all the time

that was my best gaming moment in 2008 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif
