I downloaded the demo of Mirror's Edge.

It's pretty fun, fairly short but then it is a demo.

If I end up getting it I'll be turning that red shit off.

Also, the combat seems kinda weak.

I could be wrong, but I think the focus is not on the combat, but on the running and evasion (Parkour). It's not an FPS dressed in sheep's clothing, and that's kind of refreshing IMO.

That's probably why in the demo, it says either take certain enemies out or run past them. That's probably why the running attacks knock the enemies down so you can leg it afterwards.

Same goes for the disarming enemies. You can disarm them and then throw the weapon away, which says to me that the developers intended you to evade enemies instead of just killing or incapacitating them. Because of this and the incredibly athletic movements, it's more of a first person platformer with some optional shooting elements.

And jumping around from building to building is great fun.

I'll name the top 5 games of this Fall imo (can't settle for three):

    Fallout 3
    Gears of War 2
    Mirror's Edge
    Tomb Raider: Underworld
    Dead Space

Amazing year again 4 us gamers /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Yeah it is different but the problem for me lies in the fact that every playthrough will be almost identical. Everything you will be dealing with (outside of combat) will be the exact same every time you play. I can't see difficulty level changing the game much unless the actual layout of the level has been made difficult to navigate.

It's nice to see something new, I can see myself getting it but I'm not seeing much replay value outside of skeed runs.

The first playthrough should be good but I think I'll probably get bored with it by the time I beat it.

Which single-player games is this NOT true of? "Randomly" generated levels/challenges are pretty rare in video games.

1: Mirrors Edge (Finally made it into the top 100 in time trial last night)

2: Gears of War 2 (You can't deny that multiplayer is fun)

3: No money for anything else.....actually no money for the first two. Damn!

Oh yeah Seidon, time trial is where it's at for replay value in Mirrors Edge. I don't know if you got access, but I love seeing new faster much more difficult ways to do the same stage. Once I got into the top 100 in time trial I wanted more. "I can get the number one time it's just a few milliseconds." Addicting!
