Yeah no worries, sometimes "real life" just gets in the way of wanting to play video games a lot.

As for visiting manchester you can come and stay with me and see what it's like in a proper "uni hall" seen as tho I'm now living in the new block (you didn't see it last time). There's no chance of any trouble as sue and richard the caretaker were only looking at faces on the cctv who came at night so in effect you're not "banned" from my place...Ade is because he'd been there since the thursday and they both know what he looks like (and even singled him out at one stage!). Peeps who came on the sat morning aren't "banned", only those who stayed over.

If you're going to Manchester Psychology dept (and not Man Met) then the places you'll go are just round the corner from my dept.

Give me a shout when you know the details.

    LOL

You're a rock n roll rebel thru and thru Edward!

Anyhows with regards meets, if things go to plan and I end up doing my PhD in Manchester next year, I should be getting a flat here, in which case holding meets wouldn't be a problem and if it's anything like my older sisters flat, I could accomodate loads of players, should anyone be interested.

As for the rest of the year, I'm still looking into things.

I'll look into the 24th and see what's going on...I'll try and arrange it so you can both call round here for some games (btw what day is it?).

The 24th is a Wednesday. If it's just you two (LM and Shaun, I should be able to squeeze you in at mine). I'll double check with Mye, just to make sure.

Wednesdays are good for me then, I only have an hour timetebled in to do (meeting at 12-1).

Think it may be best if we went to my place seen as tho it's so close to uni and easy for Shaun to get transport home from. I'll have a word with Sue closer to the time as I'm sure you'll be able to come back around here Ade.

Yeah only £12 return, but what am I going to do about food, transport to the station, transport to yours??? It all adds up. The tesco snacks would have been around £10 worth by the way and I would have been getting free transport too and from yours from Will...so I wouldn't have needed any other money.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We provided food, the station is walking distance from our house and if you're that short of money the train station at your end is also walking distance from your place because that's how me and Shaun get there. You can say you didn't know about any of that but, did you bother to ask? You would have spent a tenner on snacks but couldn't find another £2 to come at all? Hmm....

Atm I'm trying to sell my old games, old text books anything I don't need simply to have the cash to do things. No one seems to realise I'm in my 4th year of uni and as such have a smaller loan, no time spare to get a job plus a stupid amount of rent to pay by January.

I know you like having a go and making up comical stories but I think I said something like I get charged if I use my current account OD, not quite something like I'd get thrown in jail. And I'm OD on both now (I'll show you the receits if you really want, next time I see you) and so I'll be getting charged for around 2 months OD use. Oh and the whole pissing of the bank manager line was with regards about 2 months ago, since now my other account is almost maxed. I currently have around a £20 per week from now till around 18th dec, in which I'm also supposed to try and get christmas presents for the other 5 in my family and eat enough so I don't starve.

If you do the sums like I said, (forgot to mention my DD for tuition fees is £250 or so on 17th nov too) you'll realise I'll actually be penniless by christmas...in which I've panned to borrow money off my dad but he's loaning me £238 for rent already so I'm not going to be able to get much more off him after that this side of christmas.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Irrelevant surely, if you were going to spend £10 anyway willingly then what's the difference in spending £12? Is £2 really that much money? Answer: no.

    LM_Akira said:

Besides it wasn't all about money, I'm up to my eyeballs in uni work. Another thing people seem to forget is that if you're in your 4th year of uni, ie my masters year, the level of work is ridiculous. I remember Shaun made a comment about you two having lots of A level stuff to do so you didn't have the time to practive that much. Ha, you should try my work for a laugh. Long hours in the dept, longs hours at home and at the minute I'm barely keeping my head above water. Besides the fact I can't even understand 2 of the courses I'm doing, I've my masters project on a topic that hasn't even been properly researched yet...ie me and my lab partners are essentially looking into a whole mess of new things and we haven't a clue whats going on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's nice and all but you were going to come, all that stuff didn't suddenly materialise the instant Will pulled out now did it? These are starting to sound more like excuses than reasons.

    [ QUOTE ]
    LM_Akira said:

Have you any idea what its like, to plan, for 2 months no less, a massive VF meet, for it to all go horribley wrong because some stupid bitch who gave you permission to use the facilities, takes it back and changes her mind? No. No one does besides me. It's totally, totally gutting and totally deflating, so when I heard Will couldn't give me a lift up to yours, I really didn't feel like making it myself. I apologise for the inconvenience but would you rather have me come up and be like a zombie all day or just give it at rest till I'm back up for it. Money, time, effort things I really couldn't give so I'm sorry you only had a few at the meet (still though you got plenty of games in right?).

    [/ QUOTE ]

What does the last fucked up tournament have anything to do with this at all? It went wrong, you feel bad. Understandable yes, but besides the point as you were going to come. What difference does it make how you get here? That isn't even a valid argument. As for feeling like a zombie or whatever, I don't really see what you mean, unless you mean that a 1 hr train ride would make you feel like a zombie whereas a 1 hr car ride wouldn't. What exactly are you on about?

I've looked into other venues a little, in fact the way I see it, Will, Dan, Mye, Darius, Steev, pinking, you and Shaun are still able to come around to mine (Sue and Richard were kicking off at those who spent the night...ie those who came in the morning should still be alright to come around) but demands on my time have meant I've not found much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok good, as much as you might think I'm just "having a go" it'd be nice to get things back to how they were before the 25th September farce. I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing, I'm just annoyed at how things seem to be going to shit lately.

    To Shaun and Andy:

Chris has a lot on his plate at the moment, trust me. I too would have loved to have come, but if I'm being brutally honest, I kinda couldn't be arsed, as well as the party that was held on the previous day for my mates birthday. I would personally prefer to travel to London and play in an arcade enviroment, or at least with Ryan and Co. (I'm not dissing your skills though, I know your two great VF players ). Although I would also be going for Tag as well, admittedley!

I'm also in a situation where not long into the new year I'll be losing my job (the company I work for's business is shutting down) so I've gotta find another source of income quick!). /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

    Hmmm...

It wasn't just the £12 I would have been spending, I'd have spent £10 on food from Tesco as well you know...I would have been bringing food regardless of whether I'd been coming with Will or by myself so it's not just the thing about the price of a ticket, I'd have been spending at least £22 if you put it like that. And yeah it's easy to walk to town from mine but surely you know that any time you travel it's best to take some cash for things that come up out of the blue.

I realise the whole thing has little to do with the the cock up of 25th, it's just a demoralising situation...Will pulled out on me suddenly, Ade told me he had other plans, Darius has dissapeared into oblivion and tbh I didn't feel like making the journey by myself. If I'd been coming with Will we'd have been in the car catching up etc or me and Ade would have had a laugh on the train but when I found out I had no one to go with, to tell you the truth I just coudldn't summon it in me to make the effort to come. Sorry. At first I was using the meet to escape from work for a day, but when I found out some of the regulars weren't going and then relaised how much work I needed to get done, I was using work as an excuse I suppose. *shrugs*

I know it all sounds crap but it's just the way it was.

On a slightly positive note, at least I did give you a good few days notice, I could have been like others in the past and dropped out last minute or even worse, just not shown up at all.

Ade, going to London is a totally different thing altogether. It's 4 hrs away and 4 hrs back so there's no point going if you're not staying over. It also costs £40 (more if you don't pre-book) unless you can get a lift for free. Leeds is an hour away and an hour back meaning you can just come for a day and still get plenty of games for a tenner. Comparing the two is kind of stupid and a slap in the face for all the times me and Shaun have come over to manchester to play you guys. Are you saying we shouldn't have bothered? Unless you have the time and money to go to london quite regularly (and I'm under the impression that none of us do) then surely there needs to be a middle ground between london and nothing at all.

    Chris,

Why are you talking like you HAD to bring food? That was always optional, nobody was making you. If you'd just said "well I'll have to spend my snack money on the ticket if I'm gonna come now" then it would have been fine, it's not like we'd have told you to piss off or anything now is it? As for the extra money incase something crops up, I thought you only had a tenner anyway which you were going to spend on food. Will or no Will, you wouldn't have had any spare cash anyway. I'm not trying to be petty here but you're making arguements that aren't even valid.

I appreciate the advanced warning and all. What annoys me is that the only thing that changed was how you were going to get here. You'd still have gotten to play against me, Shaun, Graeme and Li. All players that you know would give you a hard challenge (and isn't that the point to meetings?) as well as my other brother who was somewhat of an unknown factor.

It just seems like "I couldn't be arsed" is the only real reason that was there. Same with you Ade.

Bottom line is, if you say you're going to go to a gathering (whether some of the other people are paying alot of money to come and play you or not) then it should take something fairly important to make you pull out.

fair enough, why didn't you just say this; no harm no foul.

As for you Chris, you starting to sound rather pathetic. your making contradicting points:
    1) I can come if Will brings me, and spend a tenner on food, and bring extra money with me.(adding up to more than £12)
    2) Will isn't bringing me so I don't have enough money to do anything because i'm totally broke.

here, you are trying to argue that the fact that Will was bringing you was some how making you able to afford to take money out of your account to buy food, but if he doesn't bring you, those funds are some how indispensable, and cannot be used to buy a ticket.

If you couldn't be assed because some of the 'regulars' wern't coming(which you get to play at home anyway, so I don't see why that would bother you), then you should say so........................

P.s. 'Having a lot on your plate' isn't an excuse unless someone has died, or something equally as terrible has happened. everyone has large helpings of shit on their plate, we all just deal with it.

If you remember rightly, I was originally intending to come down on the Thursday and was intending to stay till the Saturday. This is different to coming for one day. I don't think I would have come down for one day TBH (You two coming for one day is your perogutive, BTW I know I've spelt that wrong!). I just like value for money I guess and like to play a lot more than a few hours. Case in point, when I go London I go for two days of gaming and I have the Laandon experience of gaming + shopping (i.e. you can get import games in the shops which I dream of Manchester getting, Londoner's must be used to it I guess).

I'll be honest, the financial side of it doesn't mean shit to me, hell, I've spent dollars on travelling for gaming in the past (admittedley within the Manchester enviroment) not to mention the money I've pumped into fighting games over the years.

I guess I'm getting old (hell my heyday was back in 96 when VF3 hit the arcades!) but travelling for gaming is good for in small doses, cos it is very time consuming and requires a lot of dedication as does acquiriing a Ms. Slim /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif which is top of the pops in my book ATM.
