Don't be surprised, VF's hey day in the states arcade scene I
personally feel was around VF2 when we oldies were young buggers.
You know what actually surprises me? With all the flash glitz and
the like that there are that many young people playing fighting
games at all. (which there actually aren't that many heh) When we
came up fighting games were actually new innovative and had a
    serious "thing" going on.

For dedicated fighting fans it's what we grew up on or are
familiar with. Kind of like how I think todays rap sucks (and
it does) and hail ol school KRS1 or gotta cap a listen to
somethin any old head comes out with.

I'm actually more surprised that YOU like the game. Sure it's
new and updated but don't you kids play Halo, like on console
    even.

(Stops self from going into UT1999 rant)

See the way of life as a stream. A man floats, and his way is smooth. The same man turning to fight upstream, exhausts himself. To be one with the universe, each must find his true path.

Nothing in the world is software and weaker than water. But for attacking the hard and the strong there is nothing like it! For nothing can take its place. That the weak overcomes the strong and the soft overcomes the hard and the "old overcomes the young". This is something known by all, but practised by none.

In the Shaolin temple there are three kinds of men. Students, disciples, and masters. Development of the mind can be achieved only when the body has been disciplined.

To accomplish this the old men of "VF" have taught us to imitate God's creatures. The first Shun master of the White Crane system. From the crane we learn grace and self control. The snake teaches us suppleness and rhythmic endurance. The praying mantis teaches us speed and patience. And from the tiger we learn tenacity and power. And from the dragon, we learn to ride the wind. Between the supple silence of the snake and the eagle's claws, there is only harmony. As no two elements of nature are in conflict, so when we preceive the ways of nature we remove conflict within ourselves. And discover a harmony of body and mind, in accord with the flow of the universe.

It may take half a lifetime to truly master one style in VF.
It will take a life time to be come a Zen master of all.
    [/size]

I have lost over 2000 VF matches. And with each loss I have
won self understanding and have observed and absorbed the style of the victor. I have been beaten by young and old VF masters
and it has been my reward to loose at the hands of many styles.

Grasshopper: seek first to know your own journeys beginning and end. Seek then the other jouneys of which you are a close part.
But in this seeking, know patience. Wear the travelers cloak,
which shelters and permits you to endure.

I am old. You are young. I am wrinkled. You are smooth. Do these things change the nature that we share? Look beyond the surface. See what is real. In yourself and others.

In games children teach. Sometimes more than books. Come, instruct an old man and yourself. Look beyond the game, as you look beoyond the surface of the pool to see its depth. Each in turn conquers the other. There is no stronger or weaker.

This is the harmony of nature, and not a waste of time. I have three treasures which as a old man I keep. The first is mercy. For from mercy comes courage. The second is frugality. From which comes generosity to others. The third is humility. For from it comes leadership.

I have lost over 2000 VF matches to young and old VF masters.
With every loss I have observed and absorbed the styles of each.
loosing patiently, learning with each defeat, waiting for my time.

I hope to see you all online. When the PS3 gets that online honor. Or if I get the chance to make to one of your tourneys At that time I may be able to show you some of what I have
    learned...

Actually the first Halo was the last FPS I spent much time playing. The FPS genre in general bores me. Halo was fun on Legendary because it took actual strategy to win and the multiplayer was fun and well balanced. Halo two had **** multiplayer and a mindless single player game.

But would it suprise you to know that my favorite game genres are music, fighting, RPG (mostly japanese style), platformer, and adventure, in that order? In other words, I'd be much happier as a gamer if I just got it over with and moved to Japan. :p Lot's of young kids play VF5 there.

Most of us have probably forgotten more stuff in fighting games than most of the kids will learn. That being said, I still try to have fun playing. What better way to do that then to fight and win, fight or lose to a worthy opponent...come back and beat said opponent, all the while both are learning from each other the whole time and new styles are developed and taken into the next match. All over the world folks are doing the same thing, some more than other. Ah yes, diversity...

28 and I feel old since i have been playing VF since VF2 was in the arcades over 10 years ago. I know I am not the oldest but sometimes it feels that way and I wonder if I should just quit trying so hard and move on to better things like chess or something.
