These so called "faithful" players are the ones suggesting these drastic changes in the first place.

Even if they did used to shit on it, they don't because they don't want to scare off new players (who mostly come from DOA background).

The way it's worded, i'm not sure if we can expect more VF characters or more guest characters from other franchises.

What's also really interesting is that he says Akira will control exactly the same way as in VF. Don't really know DOA's controls or system so I don't know how similar he really will be.

It's completely achievable and logical for Akiras move inputs to be the same in Doa. It has the same button layout and basic formula for attacks, guard heights and movement.
VF has more refined and elegant movement and evasion but there's nothing about that which affects Akiras moveset to any great degree.
They also are planning to update Doa movement with a defined sidestep so there will be a more equivalent system of movement
The two games are so similar at the foundation and I'm surprised some people think they are such worlds apart

One thing I'm interested in is if the crossover does happen (I've heard that Team NINJA has been looking into the VS collab for awhile but nothing got off the ground... yet.) maybe Sega would be able to put it in Arcades - giving DOA an arcade scene again while Tecmo handled the console version.

My guess is more that VF6 might have two DOA characters in it or something and VF6 will be announced when FS drops.

This is so freakin' cool.

They should put Kage in, too. Or just make a "true" crossover game. I've always wanted to pit Kage against Hayate.

You know, in a way, this fits into the Virtua Fighter story. Akira won the second tournament, but lost the third and fourth, both to Kage. He's training against other practitioners of ninjutsu. It makes sense and suits his character.

I agree 100%. It might do well to boost sales after the initial wave of downloads of the title, in case it doesn't pan out quite how SEGA intends it to.

More or less, but one can argue that Tekken began in the same way. Really, it's impossible for any 3D fighter to exist without having something that the Virtua Fighter series did first. It's kind of like making a platformer that doesn't take any lessons from Mario. It's a pretty impossible achievement.

There'd better be some new, interesting game mechanics in a hypothetical DoA/VF crossover. I dislike DoA's character designs and style immensely. It uses PKG and a 4th button, and follows the 3D fighter template? Bleh, not convinced.

I think Tekken/VF would work better solely for the purpose of creating new mechanics because they're so different, but that whole Capcom x Namco thing is going on for now now

No need to argue, Harada stated himself that Tekken was a VF clone. He said he felt they only stopped copying VF and that Tekken had found it's own identity as recent as Tekken 5.

That's a big thing to own up to. Kudos to Harada for being honest about his feelings on that one.

I can agree with that, even though I never got into Tekken myself. This is just a simpler transition, and likely came about just because of Yousuke Hayashi asking SEGA to let him put Akira in. It's possible that SEGA was just going to go with whichever franchise asked first, and with Namco and Capcom using their respective franchises, Tekken is more or less out of the question, at least for now.

'Course, I would rather see VF not do crossovers with more than one other universe.

Oh man this is so awesome, now I have two new fighting games to look forward to. I'm not touching SFxTekken and Tekken 6 was so bad I think i'm done with the franchise. Pretty sure we'll get a female VF character in DOA5, I mean lets face it, the girls sell that game. Sarah please!! Vanessa would be some ownage too!

Will purchase VF5FS and DOA5 Day 1.
