To be honest, the demo kinda sucks. [IMG]

I strongly believe that the full version will be a LOT better than this, but the code in the demo just feels incomplete. There are a hundred little gripes I could say about the demo (like no push-to-talk support, so the room sounds like a damn mess), but they're all beta-like complaints.

I played the Star Trek Online beta for two weeks before getting the full version and I can't express how much of a massive difference that one week made in terms of bugs and general gameplay. STO is just smooth as silk now, but the beta was almost unplayable.

I think this demo is code from a few months ago that Rebellion handed over to another studio to compile/debug in order to release the demo.

That aside, deathmatch was never the best part of the AvP series. Species deathmatch, maybe, but the single player and co-op is where it really shines.

Having said that, I don't think I've ever been so nervous/anxious during a multiplayer online game. Getting trophy killed from behind by an invisible Pred that you walked right past because he was standing still (and thus, didn't show up on your motion tracker) is simply startling. Its also freakin' awesome. The game looks decent, but the demo is only running DX9. I can't imagine how gorgeous it will be in DX10 or DX11. I can't wait for the 16th!

The lobbies/voice chat, etc is pure garbage. the game itself however is very fun and balanced imo.

wow, dude, i was about to write you off as a steam forums rage quitter, :p I almost wrote: "WTF how can you say it sucks??! its awsome! and its just a 10 month old E3 demo!", after I read your first sentence: "To be honest, the demo kinda sucks..."

but you really surprised me by the absolutely right mini- review! pretty much everything you said is right on. If you read the steam forums, its full of hate from rage-quitters and uninformative comments for stuff that has already been confirmed by the developers. stuff like no dedicated servers, in which the devs say:

"Despite rumours, Rebellion has always been planning to support dedicated servers for AvP PC and we can now officially confirm that this is the case. Rebellion has always appreciated fan support. We're really looking forward to the release of AvP as much as you guys are!

    and

"In addition to the matchmaking functionality the full game features dedicated servers, server browsers, and the ability to host games directly."

but anyways, I applaud your patience and ability to inform yourself before buying a game, this is something most people dont do and its quite refreshing to read a post like yours (was sick of the kids at steam forums..)

and yes deathmatch was indeed the wrong choice to demonstrate AVP, i have joined a group where all we do is kill by races and its fun THAT way. [IMG]
there more to this game than meets the eye [IMG] (the parry / block system hasn't fully been...mastered)

vsync or not, Alien controls like ass. The speed might make sense for single player, but for online (dm no-less) is a terrible combination with the already unresponsive controls.

Here's my gripes, the humans move like MOLASSES, yes, truly super duper slow. Now I understand that in AvP2 that things were crazy frantic but the humans don't 'kind of' move slow. They move slow as shit. They also get winded after 5 seconds running.

I hope some of this shit changes. I tried the alien for a bit to and found it to unresponsive. I also found myself missing the old pounce feature from AVP2.

Not sure how the Predator plays but yah, so far. I'm not very impressed.

But I'll probably buy it, if only to merc some preds and aliens. Yes I'm a speciesist.

You can kinda pounce by using focus. When you use focus it puts an aura around them and when you use light attack is kinda pounces them. This works for both alien and predator.

I don't agree with marines moving too slow. They're fine. If they moved faster then everybody else would need to also move faster. AVP classic is on crack though, the speed is just way too fast for its own good.

Yknow if I could aim with the damn analog controller I probably wouldn't bitch as much about the marines. I need a PC to play this shit.

    Uh oh.

    http://www.gamegrep.com/news/29601-first...ormer_ouch_575/

First I'd like to say that I can't count the number of times I've disagreed with a reviewers score of a game. Second, it seems likely that GI played a beta build, because if they've completed the game already and the retail release hasn't even gone gold... well... you know what I'm saying.

Also, it seems that they only reviewed the PS3/360 version. Make no mistake, this game was MADE for PC, and I can guarantee that the PC version will be superior in every single way.

Now, with all that out of the way, I gotta say I'm a bit worried. I'll still be picking up my 2 copies on the 16th, but my concerns are mostly with how the alien/pred single player campaigns go. It sounds from the review like the Alien has trouble killing simple unarmed NPCs. In the first game, they went down with 1 hit, like it should be. That was the whole damn point of playing an Alien, you felt deadly. In AvP Gold when I played the Alien, I felt like if an NPC didn't have a gun and 50 yards to shoot at me, they were fucked. I wonder if the Pred has the same problem. I know the preds claws are way nerfed compared to AVP Gold.

What do you guys think about this review? Harsh? Nit-picking? Accurate?

Honestly I just think they made a big mistake choosing deathmatch as the playstyle. Maybe they HAD to because the others weren't quite ready for display yet: But AvP is fun for the team aspect of it, rushing down a hallwa ywith your squad as a group of aliens chase you from behind, scenarios like that.

The whole thing would've gone over better if they had picked "team deathmatch" or something of the sort. No one wants to run around as a marine shooting other marines, we have that in 900 thousand other shooters on the market.

Really looking forward to their "Infestation" mode too.

The press don't use retail copies, they only do if the publisher didn't send them a promotional copy.

Saw that review a few days ago.. First off the guy is complaining about having to play too stealthy as a predator. He's complaining about marine campaign being boring because you have to kill aliens.

This guy obviously has something against the intellectual property. He's trying to find reasons to hate the game. It's a terrible review.
