The other morning Sprednxtend pointed out to me that Vane's [4][4][K]+[G] crumples on normal hit. Your backstagger setup here would be the same as [G],[8][P] I imagine. After a fully charged hit your best option is probably to substitute any damaging followups with pointing and laughing at your opponent. Keep in mind of course that it's generally not nice to laugh at the comatose or point at the blind.

Jeez, I wasn't even thinking about it but Lau's evade attack crumples on MC...I'll stop picking nits, I swear.

    Re: Update

CreeD I haven't seen your updated guide yet but I thought u should add this in as another anti-TR backstagger setup if it isn't already in it.
    For Shun
    MC FC,df+p - db+k,k - (techroll) sidekick - etc.
or do another FC,df+p instead of the db+k,k.

    Re: Update

That's a handy addition... I'll add it. The updated version is nearly identical, click the link at the bottom of the current one to see it...

Anyway thanks again, now I have something decent to add for situations where shun isn't facing a lightweight.

    Re: Update

Creed, I got another backstagger setup for u. This time for Kage and it doesn't involve Jumonji stance.
I found out that his f+p+g+k facing the wall crumples on the opponent MC. It looks like Jeffry's b,f+p crumple. It isn't too reliable, but it's still an alternative to Jumonji. I'm currently experimenting on some possible follow-ups.

    Well... it's something /versus/images/icons/smile.gif
Wolf and jeffry's wall attacks crumple as well. Not sure if I should include 'em or not.

    Re: Update

Got another thing for u. It's not damaging but it's a little stylish and tricky. Lei Fei: face down crumple - u+k (stay in stance) - ff (forward dash) - p (backstaggers) - go from there.

The deal with this thing is when u stay in the stance after u+k, if u forward dash you will face your opponent instead of having your back towards him/her. If you press p while facing ur opponent in that stance, Lei will do his f,f+p attack and it can backstagger. It could be dependent on conditions similar to his u+k,k thing. I'm checking now but I know it can be done cuz I just did it.

    Re: Update

    ok, this has me stumped.
Crumple the opponent, let's say with b,f+P+K.
Do u+K. Lei does his whirly girly hoppy kick that leaves him not just backturned, but in the special backturned stance.
At this point, whether you press f,f (away from the opponent's TRing body) or b,b (towards the opponent's TRing body) lei fei simply stays in stance.
Since lei is in stance, the moment you press punch he does the gigantic-overhead-smash-that-sabakis-everything-and-crumples. There's no way to make lei fei do his normal f,f+P (a lunging palm strike) unless you tap guard at some point to cancel the stance, which seems way too slow. There's also no way seemingly to connect that sabakis-everything-punch... and if there was I'd guess it would knock down.
For fun I tried b,f+P+K -> b+P,P -> f,f+P into the opponent's back. It just hits them, no stun or stagger.

So anyway, any idea what you did?!

    PS: new favorite practice combo:

DM stance, charged arrow punch -> DM stance, P-P+K -> DM stance, arrow punch (charged a tiny bit) -> u+K,K -> puntkick (hold for IN stance) -> K+G (floats) -> DM stance, P-P+K.

    Re: Update

You do not have to cancel the stance for the f,f+p to hit. Trust me. It's weird I know but after u+k, do a dash towards the opponent at the same time they techroll. You and the opponent will have switched positions because you dashed forward and they rolled (I put comp. to techroll away from the screen) You will face your opponent in the stance you are in. Hitting p in that stance causes Lei Fei to do that f,f+p for some reason and cause the backstagger.

    Re: Update

yup.. if anyone else is curious about this stuff, I documented what's going on in a new post in the character and technique training section. The gist of it is that lei fei has special attacks if he somehow ends up face to face with the opponent while in [Tiger] or [Evade] stance.

Example setup: b+P (crumple) -> dash -> f,f+K+G over the opponent's body. Lei fei is now in tiger stance and facing them when they rise. He can bust loose with a special P or K attack.

    Re: Update

I'm having some problems while try to create a backstagger combo with lei-fei..I've just deleted my last post, as i tried it in free training and didn't work.

I was trying to create a TR-Backstagger combo using Tiger Stance and the little steps forward, but it's too slow... and even when I end up in tiger stance after making a [3][3][P] [2][P][K] [P] i can't change to Defeat miss...so i'm kinda f*cked up..
I tried doing the first hit of [2][P][K] [P] only, as it ends up in evade stance, and from there i could change to DM and use arrow punch, but it always misses.. GRRR!!!

CreeD, i'm sure you did a mistake when writing Punt Kick in ur favorite combo, as the punt kick is [3][K] and holding it goes nowhere, eheh.. You meant [6][6][K] right?

    Sorry for spamming...

    Re: Update

sup, is puntkick 'officially' df+K? If so, my mistake. (oops, yeah, just double checked and it is)

I did mean f,f+K and I call it the puntkick because jacky's puntkick has a similar effect and animation.

If I ever fire up version C again or if I try lei in evo I'll see if I can figure out what's up with tiger stance backstagger.

I think backstaggering with his backturned (no stance) kick would be neat.

    Re: Update

F*CK! I can't seem to connect any of the Tiger Stance attacks. Nor an Arrow punch from a buffered DM stance starting with evade stance (how confusing huh..). I mean:

    [3][3][P][P]->[2][P][K] (TRolled)->[2][P][K][G]->[P][K]

    Doesn't work......Buahhh!! It always whiffs..sniff...
Well, I would like to say some stuff about lei-fei for some newbies out there who may need some advice: [3][3][P][P] ,[2][P][K] [P], dash towards the opponent while on Tiger Stance and then [P] when they get up and may be ready to attack is perfect. Really... Use it only if the opponent Quick rises, Don't use it with tech roll. If they tech roll, dash backwards and use [K] in TS.

This Advice is shit, though it always works for me (cpu powa, /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

And one more thing you guys might like, though it's off-topic:
I've contacted a Farseer (no joke, i swear) in my town. And guess what? It turns out VF4EVO's coming out this summer. Sega's finished the translation, but they're having some problems with the distributors, or something like that. I don't really believe in farseers, so i asked him like this: "I think there's a gaming called VF4 evo coming out this year, it would be a shame if it does...i hate it... would you please tell me if it's going out?" And because farseers always answer what we want to hear (at least they do that all the time), this one didn't. So this guy must really have psychic powers.

He told me he would pay me €50 if the game doesn't come out!! Cool... I don't care if you don't believe me. If you want to, don't believe the guy i asked this. But believe me, i did ask.

    Re: Update

Did you start the combo with a crumple that leaves them face-down and head-towards? When people techroll from that, backstagger attempts will connect since they expose their back just for a moment. Lei has tons of crumpling moves like [TG] p, [DM] p+k (fully charged), the second hit of d+p+k,p on MC, b,f+p+k, QCF+p+k etc. You should really just try to focus on the timing of the arrow punch for backstagger at first. Then after that, the rest is a piece of cake.

    Re: Update

Yeah right... i forgot the "back" part, lol..
I've been using [3][3][P][P] which floats the opponent making him fall with the head out of reach... and worst: face up.....

    CreeD,

The timing for Wolf's backstagger combo (the 1st one) is retarded; or as a better way to put it, annoyingly difficult. When the opp. TR's, how many dashes before you do db+p? 1 or 2? Do you hesitate, or do the db+p immediately? Also, when I am finally successful with getting the backstagger, it seems I can never reach the opp. in time, or my short shoulder magically misses somehow (?). How many times do you need to dash to connect with the knee/shoulder once you successfully get the backstagger. I'm having a tough time with these, they're friggin hard...
