I play tekken even though I don't like the game that

    much.

The only game that I get into seriously is VF4.

Tekken is a fun game but not a deep game, but VF4 is

    the deepest game ever existed.

Are you sure we're talking about the same game ? It's sad !

Learn how to play the game before saying it isn't deep. Is it deeper than VF4 ? No it isn't ! But saying it's "not a deep game'' shows how much you know about the game. And you're basically insulting all of the tekken players on this thread. Why post stupid shit like that when you know someone's going to get pissed off ?

2-1, sound familiar Tekken 4 players. That's all thats needed. Tekken Tag is fun, Tekken 4 needs serious help. It's hit detection made it basically unplayable to me. Ex: Yoshi does back spin fist that hits 2 times and proceeds to spin through Jin's head 3 times before Jin 2-1's him to death. It was almost a sickening experience. In conclusion, Tekken Tag yes, SC2 yes, Tekken 4 NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Everyone finds a move to complain about. 2-1 is deadly in the hands of a skilled Jin user, but it can be beaten. You just have to learn how to anticipate it. People have always complained about something only to find out how to beat it; Jin's jfls, Nina's 1+4 (which wasn't great to begin with), Lee's ss+2, 1,2,4:4, and even at one point Craig's mount.

It's never as bad as it seems. Although I agree with you on two things; for as good a move as it is, 2-1 is too simple and brainless to do, and the hit detection is suspect. But it's like that for most fighters /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The biggest problem with Tekken 4 isn't the shoddy engine it runs on, or the inexistent backdash, or even the balance. I mean, if you play Tekken 4 you already know the score and you know what you're up against if you pick low tiers at a tourney.

Tekken 4's biggest problem is the kind of style it encourages at a high level - safe and abusive gameplay - playstyles that are based around poking and low-risk, high-reward moves. Every character that is good in Tekken 4, is good because they have some type of move or tactic that can be abused and is difficult to punish if used correctly - Jin's 2,1, Nina's hayashida backstep, Lee's SS+2, Steve's 1,2,1, Julia's ff+P...etc. But it doesn't end there, even the low tiers have moves that are very abuseable like Kuma's qsh.

Have any of you seen a high-level MvC2 match? It's pretty crazy. Lots of fast dashing around, big combos and traps, usually 4 characters on the screen at once, and all around fast gameplay. And if you don't play MvC2, it's actually pretty hard to tell what the hell is going on at times. Have any of you seen a high-level MvC2 match where both players have Cable on their team (which is pretty common)? Have you seen what happens when both those Cables are out at the same time? Well, in case you haven't, I'll tell you:

Nothing. Not a goddamn thing. No Assists, no tagging, no dashing in, nothing. Because both of the players know that if one of them makes a mistake, the other one can take out one of his charas with one combo, and potentially end the match. So until someone fucks up, the match becomes nothing but jumping back and throwing grenades to keep the other player at bay.

This is what high level TK4 play has evolved into. Have any of you seen the finals of EC4 between Tom Hilfinger and Maddog Jin (two of the best TK4 players in the world)? If you haven't, I'll sum it up for you:

    ....zzzZZZzzZzzzZz....

It's nothing but safe poke after safe poke after safe poke. Why? I'm going to go ahead and quote myself: "Because both of the players know that if one of them makes a mistake, the other one can take out one of his charas with one combo, and potentially end the match." Tom (Nina) abuses her hayashida backstep (it's like a backwards crouch dash) into safe pokes such as 1,2 strings, d/f+1, d+4,4 and 1+4. MDJ (who in casual play is VERY flashy) uses safe pokes such as 2,1, 1, d/f+1, and so forth, until he could set tom up for a jfls. I didn't see him do one EWHF. I think tom did one combo throw. Why only one? Because MDJ kept doing safe pokes like he's supposed to, duh! High level Tekken 4 play is possibly the most boring thing anyone has ever seen.

It's not that Tekken 4 isn't a deep game, it's that a lot of the things that make it "deep" (chickens, character-specific reversals and escapes, multi-part throws, etc.) never make it into high-level play, because they cannot coexist with the safe, abusive style of play that Tekken 4 encourages.

Hmm!!! Fair enough. I totally agree. Although, sometimes it depends on who's playing who but overall I think you're right.

Been playing tekken properly since 3, although evo knocks the crap out of t4, although I have to say, I do still play it, it's just evo is SOOO much more rewarding and enjoyable to play. My mate is the current UK champ, (the dreaded jin player), but tag is the best to play in addict session's IMO..

    Fave character's:
    T1: Armor King, Heihachi, Kazuya
    T2:Kazuya, Heihachi, Bruce, Paul
T3:Ogre, T.Ogre, Jin, Hehachi and Paul
    Tag:Ogres, Mishimas
    4: Paul, Jin, Nina

Hate to be pedantic but seen as though mokujin and tetsujin can have any characters move set they are both simultaneously the best and worst players.I've never played properly as Gon though messing around with Dr B is fun and can really piss my mates off! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Hey Dandy J.

Very nice one. That sums up the game

    called "Tekken4" fairly well.

BTW, Maddog Jin started playing VF4 for fun(He plays

Tekken for living- he is a progammer), and very quickly

has become one of the dangerous VF4 players in

Korea. He's got such an awesome raw talent on

    fighting games, I guess.

I started playing Tekken almost a year before I picked up VF. I've always found it to be an awesome game with fantastic character design. I play mostly T4 (plus some TTT/T3), with Bryan, Lee, Hwoarang, and Eddy as my main chars.

To be honest, the general attitude of "Tekken fans are foolish, VF4 is the only deep fighter out there" on VFDC put me off on improving my VF game for a long time. I don't know why the automatic reply to someone mentioning the game here is one of total disgust, as that's definately not the case on most Tekken sites (actually, the majority of the community views VF4 as a pretty good game, just "not to their taste"), but I'm sure the VF community in the US would be muuuch bigger without the childish, elitist attitude.

Personally, I don't attach my ego to either game. They're both very fun to play, and I admire different aspects of each. I consider myself to be pretty good at both (though there's a lack of competition around here that prevents me from becoming a tournament-level player; how I wish someone would cheese the hell out of me just for the practice).

So very true. Back when I was more of a tekken fan, vf fans angered me, especially the ones who came on zaibatsu talking garbage. It just seemed pointless, especially when those same people were the ones who wanted to make the U.S. VF scene grow...wonderful way to make it grow.

But there's been some guys on here who have been inspiring and encouraging (even though they probably don't know it). Uh oh...shout out time /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I don't know his vfdc name, but techrolltv on zaibatsu has been a very respectable VF fan who can relate to both Tekken fans and VF fans because he likes both series. Creed and Myke have also been awesome, meeting all of my n00bish questions with direct, honest, un-insulting answers. Catch22 has also been a big motivation. Thanks to all you guys.

And Dandy_J, that was the best description on Tekken 4's downfall that I have ever heard...you are 100% accurate. It's much better than the "they could've implemented walls better" or "the characters play too different" b.s.

they're plenty of tekken players on this site, a lot of whom still play tekken /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif. i post at TZ under my cuz's account 'techrolltv'. been a member of TZ now for well over three years. i still play both tag and T4 though i prefer VF:evo over both of them now. T4 sux and incomparable to evo and tag is too damn old now (though still very enjoyable from time to time). as to which teams i use, well they usually involve a combo of various characters. the characters usually include: jack2, kuma, lei, hei, bryan, bruce, paul, king, ogres, law and sometimes kuni and jun.

I play TTT a ton(T3 does the job too), I hate T4. I love TTT, the art of Lei is so beautiful (the whole game is for that matter).

Anyways my characters are; Lei, Ling, Nina, Jun, Yosh, Jin. I like to use Heihachi + Jin in tag because Jin's Omen is super cool.

I know Eddy and Hwoarang quite well- I think they are very deep characters but newbs can button mash them too easy.

VF4 and TTT are my personal top choices for best games ever. I'm better at Tekken because I've had a lot more human opponents and the game just clicks with me. I'm working really hard on VF4 but don't get the feeling of mastering since I don't have other masters to play with /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
