I heard one playthrough takes about 8 hours but there's 4 hours worth of cutscenes, so the game's about 4 hours lol. Sounds like it does have a lot of replay value though, some folks on the Platinum Games forums said it took about 80 hours to do everything in the game.

FiNALLY i figured it out how the akira yuki quote combo works...
To get it, you must kill the last enemy with a Tetsuzanko attack and get a pure platinum medal!

I didn't find the game short at all. And I think it has tons of replay value.

Nice find! Man, the game is so AWESOME. Too bad I'm so bad at it on HARD. I can't seem to get past the first chapter on the plane where you have to fight those dozens of fang beasts and perform at least 3 torture attacks.... damn it...

Are any of you not picking this up due to how the VF5R thing went down? After hearing about Sega not releasing VF5R, I don't want to give them my money personally.

I expect some will disapprove of this, but sometimes you gotta say no sale on principle. (I can buy other things instead which will be awesome as well)

Loosely translated it means "You're ten years too early!". The implication is you have a long way to go before you are good enough to challenge him.

    I propably wont.
    I
    don't
    like
    it's
    visuals
    at
    all.

Even the main character looks like a secretary in an abnormally elongated body and some computer generated latex. how can you call that hot or bad-ass? The rest of the games visuals is standard computer-generated potpourri of visual design cliches. Ugh. Theres nothing in there for me to relate to.

edit: or this kind of game design:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">where you have to fight those dozens of fang beasts and perform at least 3 torture attacks....</div></div>
It's just so.. synthetic. Good for all those who are happy to hunt achievements and grind 10000 bad guys or whatever etc. Not my cup of java. Just stacking goals on top of each other doesn't make a great game. Enough of the games today are made with the grind mentality in mind.

Manji, no disrespect to you, because I know you have particular tastes.

But you took a dislike to Bayonetta and your dislike is based on mere impressions, you cannot criticize the game for its gameplay or variety, you just dont like its look.

You play 100's of generic games, recycled syntetic shit, they just happen to be fighting games.

Yet the only token of appreciation I can give to the makers is to Buy the Game. Don't you find that somewhat paradoxal?

Ill DL the demo to humour you if you want.

Just pointing out that demos don't mean a thing, I know examples where people who disliked the demo completely reversed their opinion on actual game. (Example: arkham Asylum)

Manji -.-.. u are critiquing the game based on a random quote that is extremely off and then say the game has a lot of grinding?

firstly, that quote "where you have to fight those dozens of fang beasts and perform at least 3 torture attacks...." is probably referencing one of the early TUTORIAL LEVEL TYPE BATTLES. this where were u learn how to do a torture attack, and it takes an EXTREMELY short amount of time, on harder modes its extremely tough challenge as it basically means you cant get hit and have to raise ur magic as fast as possible, which is a interesting challenge and still doesn't take long (unless u fail alot).

anyway the game itself is FAR from a grind. There is a good amount of enemy diversity and THERE ARE MULTIPLE SEGMENTS WHERE YOU PLAY A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME. For example, there is a motor bike mission where your on a motor bike and have to travel through some roads, its a pretty fun change of pase and just the right length (not to short to be useless, and not to long to take away from the core game). The bosses themselves are VERY epic and each boss fight is completely different and have multiple sections that are different from one another (one is even faught on a ghetto surfboard in the middle of the ocean).

There are more weapons in the game then any DMC game, heck more then ANY action game probably, especially since they can be equiped on the arms or feet producing different attacks.

I can understand you saying you personally don't like the visual vibe but dont go around telling the world its a grindfest unless you played the entire game. anyway its your choice to play, i think its a great game, probably the best action game of all time.

lastly the demo is pretty simply, the actual game is MUCH HARDER, but you can get a good feel for how the controls and the smoothness of the game are.

Bold statement when you consider what it is up against in that genre.

I wasn't impressed by the demo myself. I didn't enjoy it enough to warrant buying the game.

No, Im critiquing based on what I see on trailer and videos, and what I read on reviews. With my knowledge of DMC I believe I can put together a picture of how the game plays. Its visuals are visible on the videos as well.

ps. I didn't like DMC at all.

pps. If I seem vocal in my dislike, its because of the huge amount of people who try to convince me game A is a great game while my feelings are exactly opposite. If noone would try that, I would just ignore the game.

This is not the first or the last game where people do that. So many people having exactly opposite feelings than I have just alienates me from other people further..

ppps. I cant remember any game where I have changed my initial opinion of the game. I know theres some, but I cant seem to recall any at this point. The ratio between games where I held my initial impression of the game compared to those where I changed it is like 80 to 1 though.

edit: Sharp7: If you are forced to do something that you dont like in order to get some distant award, thats what I call a 'grind'. No matter that you have to do. It boils down to whether or not I like the actual play of the game. Adding rewards to the end doesnt cut it for me. Thats what I was saying, in general, not completely related to Bayonetta. Thats why Im not interested in, say, doing the dojo challenges of VF5.

that says more about you than about bayonetta though.

then again, i bought lots of games that i never played. i am always like this, i get games and then play them 10 hours before going back to VF5.

thing is, some games i buy them even if i dont play, or even if i dont have the consolle to play them, just to know that i have them somewhere.

well manji if you didn't like DMC then you probably won't like this, it seems to me like you just don't like the genre.
and your definition of grinding is quite broad didn't know you meant anything that you don't like doing for a reward.

and once again, i definitely believe it is possibly the best action game of all time.
I have played most action games, and before VF5 DMC1/3 were my favorite games of all time and i can safely say this will probably be superior. I'm currently on the last level of hard mode so I'll have to beat it on the hardest difficulty, and then go back and play DMC to refresh my memory on it before I can make a ultimate statement.
Some other action games I've played are NG1/2, and God of War. and this DEFINITELY blows at least them away COMPLETELY. As you can see DMC>NG>GoW for me, but soon it may be Bayonetta>DMC>NG>GoW

also I've been meaning to play Godhand, which from what i've seen would be right under DMC.

this game is made by the creator of DMC1 which revolutionized the genre, so its not surprising it would be amazing.

Ultimately nothing else would matter to ME than MY opinion of the game. Not anyone elses. Thats kind of what I wanted to say.

Just like I dont want people to base their opinion of the game to my opinion. Or anyone elses. People think with their own minds. Thats all. It makes this kind of thread pretty pointless imo.

Depends what you count to belong in that genre.
