Well..another hr to go and I'll have to go to the airport.
It is not painful to take the 1 1/2 hr train to the airport.
The pain comes from having to drag luggage all over the place....so uze.

Anyway...cannot believe the trip is coming to an end. Before we arrive, 9 days seemed a pretty long time. Now that it is almost over, 9 days is just too fucking lame to be true.

9 days in Japan, 7 days of rain, 6 days of sore throat, 9 days of awesomeness, one day of dissapointment, 12 hrs of pure adrenaline at the cup, 9 days to make new friends, get reaquainted with old farts, 5 days of putting up with pablo's mad tunes (hahahaha), 8 days of hot sex with Jerky, 5 days to disturb the hell outta our infamous bank robber. 8 days of getting lost with shinz n moonsuke when we order food, 2 days of ' what the fuck! where are we? what line are we supposed to be on? fuck ! 'one day of pure taunting at our general...'fuck u fukin u I will kill you next time domoarigato!'

    It ended too soon.

Here is the first day report of my trip.

I arrived in Japan at around 5pm and took the jr line into tokyo ueno area. It was pretty cool because while me, akebono and ghostdog were at the airport, we started filming. It was so quiet at the airport, we felt out of place. Us being the loudest and just giddy from being in Japan. As we were getting off the train and looking for the right street, we ran into a guy looking for the same hotel. It turned out to be madrox. It was cool. We went to both hotels and didnt' find summers nor jerky. So went out to this local ramen noodle shop. Good stuff. I loved it. It was funny seeing Ghostdog try to use chopsticks. I guess this was his first time. After coming back from the noodle house we all retired to our rooms. I couldn't sleep, so I went and walked around the area for three hours or so. Ended up talking to some of the people staying at the hotel. I finally got tired and laid down and was about to sleep. When Jerky and summers knocked on my door. The first day was kinda boring. But more to come.

    Re: Beat Tribe result

Hey all what's up? I finally have some time (and a few beers in me) to write about Beat Tribe.

To start off I took the overnight bus from Fukui to Tokyo which got to Tokyo station half an hour early, at 5:30 in the morning! And nothing was open, so I found a spot that wasn't crowded and starting playing Mario and Luigi on my gameboy until stuff opened up. I was playing for a bit and then I heard some dude say (all of this in japanese) "that's interesting, right?" and I ignored him and he said it again and I'm like "yea" and he's like "games are interesting aren't they?" and I'm like "yea" and then he comes over and sits next to me and starts talking with me like "man, I don't have a job" and shit, at which point I say "I'm sorry, I don't understand Japanese." Of course I realized that saying "I don't understand Japanese" IN JAPANESE doesn't help. He kept going on about how he wanted to go home and didn't have a job and had no money and asked if I had any cash. So I gave him 100 yen (more or less a buck) and then he's like "thanks" and he asked for more, and I'm like "I'm sorry" and he's like "shhh!" since he didn't want anyone to hear. And whenever someone would walk by he'd sit up and start talking loudly like "Man, these games are interesting!" and stuff like that to make it seem like he wasn't trying to ask me for some cash. Then he's like "come on gaijin-san, just a little more?" And he was kinda cute in a bum kind of way, the way he'd like pretend like he wasn't beginning whenever someone walked by, plus he called me gaijin-san, which I thought was kinda cool (is calling someone gaijin-san rude I wonder...?) so I gave him another 100 yen. Then he's like "why are you here?" and I'm like "to see my friends" and he's like "when are they getting here?" and I hestitate and he's like "8?" (in english) and I'm like "yea, at 8! So I gotta go!" and I left. It was kinda funny. He was cool though, he tried a lot harder than any bum in new york I've ever met.

After that I decided to go find my hotel and kill time until checkin at noon. So I hop on the yamanote line, stop at nippori and get on a train bound for minami senju (where my hotel was.) I got off the train but got a little lost, it pry took 20 minutes to find the hotel. And let me tell you, this place redefined the word "ghetto." My room was 3 tatami mat's large (or I should say small), and when I used the internet computer for 10 yen a minute I was timed with a freaking stopwatch, left at the computer as I used it!

But anyways I look in the hotel and see no one is there, but a sign on the desk that says check in is at 3:00 and not 12:00. Considering it was only 11:00 I wasn't gonna wait around another 4 hours, so I went back to Tokyo Station and went to the arcade underneath Tokyo station. There I got in some games and managed to get promoted from 7th dan to 9th dan! It was pretty cool. There was one guy who kept playing me and I kept beating him. And once I got promoted to 8th dan he stopped playing his 7th dan guy and started playing his 8th dan guy. It was hot. Then he started playing his 9th dan akira once I was 9th dan, I lost twice and ran out of 100 yen coins and I'm think "well, I guess that's time for me to leave!" So I left and went to go check in to my hotel.

Of course when I got off at minami senju I left the station from a different exit and ended up getting really lost and walking around for more than an hour trying to find my hotel again. I kept going back to the station to look for any familiar landmarks but kept missing them! I finally found my hotel after walking forever, paid in full for the 3 nights, went and discovered my room was the tiniest room imaginable save for a capsule hotel (which might have been better, cause then at least I'd have been able to say I slept in a capsule hotel). But yea...

Then I went into Shinjuku and managed to find my way to Shinjuku sportsland which is where I heard everyone was. While walking down the stairs to the bottom floor where the VF was I heard "namflow!" and I met stomp, jedi (sorry akebono, but I'm your always gonna be Jedi!), ghostdog, and like summah and danny and like everything I forgot to mention cause I'm stupid and forget names.

I met then and they were on their way for food and I was hungry so we went to go get some food, talked VF and Japan, and went back.

I got my ass handed to me at shinjuku sportsland HARDCORE. Like it wasn't pretty. I won maybe 2 matches the first night I was there, one against shu (he beat me the first time, I managed to pull out a win the second) and one against hanabi lei (I think that was his name, or at least that's what stomp says!) But other than that I got owned pretty hard.

Then it was getting close to midnight and I had to be back cause my stupid ass gheto hotel decided to have a midnight curfew. So I said goodbye to everyone, made plans to meet stomp and crew for breakfast the next day, and just generally have a kickass time.

So that's day one. I'll write more later.

And if you ever want to be humbled go to shinjuku sportsland! The amount of ownage, or I should say getting owned, is unparalelled. Like I lose here in Fukui all the time but getting owned in Fukui and getting owned in shinjuku is like two totally different things. At least here in Fukui I can see what I did wrong, but in shinjuku it's just like a flash and then your dead. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif But it's certainly awesome though, gives me something to strive for!

Thank you for the report Namflow; it was a very interesting read.
I've had my fair share of "bums" asking for money here in Shanghai as well, they haven't said anything about games though...just taking my money...or my food\drink if I should have one in my hand. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    Re: Beat Tribe result

    more beat tribe stuff:

The second day we went out to Ueno park to check out the cherry blossoms and walk around and such. Akebono and Jerky were filming when we came across a street performer. I was taking pics and all of a sudden, she pulls Ghostdog on to the stage where she set up and asked him to help her perform. She was performing with some bamboo setup and Ghostdog got to wear a bonnet. It was pretty cool. Then we headed to West Shinjuku sportsland. That's where everyone was playing. As soon as I got in there, I saw 5 members of the nine states team. They took turns kicking everyone's ass. It is a pretty solid team. Danny13 from singapore was doing pretty well. He was at around 7th dan when I first saw him play. He ended up at around 10th dan the last time I saw him play. It was pretty cool too, my first encounter with Ryan Hart in Japan. He was happy to see all of us. He helped us translate and introduced me to Shu, and Segaru. Segaru was pretty much the first big name to show up and than pretty much everyone came into the arcade. It was just packed to the brim with people playing vf. At west Shinjuku, I got to play almost everyone except for Mukki akira. He didn't really play much or I was on a different machine when he was playing. I also met some other north americans there for the first time. VF4akira, the so cal crew, and Dobi/tik from Boston. Dobi beat Segaru and ended his streak. That drew some crowd noises. Than that Brad player that Summah's was talking about showed up. He owned pretty much every north american that played him. Finally Adam and Kazu show up. Adam starts his card play there. Did very well. His opening message is eat shit and die. It was actually kinda funny. I got my ass handed to me hardcore but I did get used to the sticks. Many of my matches seems to be like I was up 2-0 and doing well and than they would figure me out and totally kill me the next three rounds. But I learned a lot and started to win a few matches here and there. My biggest streak was 6 in a row. But during my stint at West Shinjuku sportsland, it seems I had my best game against Jeffery players. I ended Magnum Jeffery's 15 game win streak and Banana Fish's 12 Jeffery win streak. I also beat four other Jeffery's. I mostly played Shun when I was in Japan, but used Burun Burun's Lion card two times. The one he gave me at nyc for me beating him in the tourney. He got revenge the next day when I met up with him. More to come.

    Re: Beat Tribe result

    more stuff:

*Chibitaru (sp?) the little kid that plays Jeffery death matched Adam. Chibi won 3-1 nailing a low throw on him towards the end.

*Jerky beat Shinz and ended his five game win streak and ended the match with Jacky's gut punch hit throw thing. The one where he says.. come on afterwards. Jerky got mad props but he was blushing from the win.

*Haijin and Adam were playing the final match of their round. Haijin hit him with two db throws and than a f throw to beat him in round 3. This was after Adam beat his teammate Tokyo Megane. (Vanessa player I believe)

*I got to ask shinz some questions. He said he didn't like the E button for vf3 even though he looked so bad ass on vf3. He was using Pong Pai's card after the beat tribe tourney. That's my first time checking out his Pai. It was sick. Shinz also likes to use the Zergs in Starcraft.

*Heruru told me in broken english how he got his nick name. During vf 3 days, he was playing kage and doing the most mixups. that was what one of his friends told him. They said heru meant lots of mixups. (I think that's what he was trying to tell me) So when vf4 came out, he added another ru into the name and it came out heruru. Hence his style and liking to Lei Fei.

*at the arcades.. no one laughs at you if your winning percentage sucks. No one cares if you win or lose. If you want to play just play. That is what is so cool about the japanese vf scene.

*Kurita's Vanessa was just nasty. Ghettoshun would have had a hardon playing against it.

*chibita didn't rememeber his trip to Los Angeles for evo 2k3 when we asked him. Shinjuku jacky did the translating and he swears he didn't go. Till we kept asking and telling him stuff/events that went on. He said, oh.. yeah.. Maybe he was too drunk? hahaha

*Shinjuku Jacky had the best english speaking skills of the japanese Tetsujins. He said he will try and come next time Kyasao comes to America.

West Shinjuku sportsland is the best arcade for vf. There is one section where there is a chair and table. With chained arcadia books, green book and a computer to look up frames/states and move lists of all the games at shinjuku sportsland. It was amazing. Other arcades.. they had all the moves posted for every game. It was purely a great thing to see. The smoking was pretty insane. I had to step out many times. It was worse than clubs in america. But the workers have to work their ass off and empty the ashtrays quickly. Also they wipe the screen and sticks and buttons when the seat is empty.

*the announcer called adamyuki... Gaijin Adam Jeffery from NYc. lol

*Heruru told me he has a headache when playing in tourneys. He would rather play casual matches.

    Re: Beat Tribe result

my observation on players individually.....grouped in characters they played....

Shun: Most of the shun players use, b,f+p, chouwan set ups so well. They seem to love to absorb your standing jab when they buffer a chouwan to gain back advantage. When top shun players want to mess with your head, they will do a nasty high/low, mid game backturned almost every time. Other shun players who know your game/style will just sit back and take your punishment and drink. Then own you three rounds back to win. They rarly do db+k,k. I abused the living shit out of that and it works well in round one. Round 2 and beyond, I probably never hit it unless it was a major counter combo. If you use Shun, the two moves I nailed people with the most that won me many matches were ff+p+k after 8 drinks and uf+p again rising attackers or low attacking towards the end of the round. They don't see it often and got nailed by it many many times. But you can't use it often. They will still punish you! haha. One thing that most japanese shun players don't use is moves to take away drink points. So if they are up on drink points, very rarely, they will use the head screw, or the f+pg, or moves that makes them lay down. I did that more and didn't care for drink points and nailed them with the 3 hit combo from the side laydown.

Jeffery: Most of the Jeffery players that I played used the knee like it was a safe move. Lots of wall combos from suprise exchange throw setups. box step low throw or delay knee from rising attacks nailed me the first few matches. Thier jab throw, jab knee, jab, delay game was pretty wicked. Most jeffery players hardly use splash mountain and more of the other throw inputs. One Jeffery player loved to only use b+pg because he forced you to read his yomi from rising.

Akira: just sick! lol. They pk hit you out of your flow almost everytime. they love to use that one move where it is a small uppercut and takes out your guard and than go into the knee and into a big ass combo. Mukki and oshu would had like about 30 setups from stumble trip/throw.

Jacky: bread and butter setups were from b+kg move. They did it so well. All the fancy movement, flashy dancing and such will get you that axe kick in the face. hahahha If you become a evade triple throw escape dork against them, they will delay and hit you with the hit throw.

    more to come later.

jeff players are all macchi...good to excellent yomi yes..but all macchi...n I do not blame them at all.

Even kyasao also said all Jeff players are macchi to a certain degree...

most impressive thing I saw boki did was to force the opponent's low p to whiff, then boki immediately used low throw to punish.

So what move did u think he used to set up the low throw?

    Ans : jeff standing p...

I have so much to tell n so much to share...but I am forced to go back to work ...another day of no sleep ahead of me...

    I hate work.
