    If we are going RPG's...
Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best ever. Set's the bar for games like disgaea, and while disgaea was great in it's own way, it was no FFT.

I really really like FFXII, but thought all the final fantasy's were surprisingly good for ps2.

World soccer winning eleven 9. Best game for ps2 period. Really, people should check this out. Unfortunately, so far the next gen ones aren't up to par [IMG]

Someone suggested the manhunt games...i rented one, and thought it sucked so bad i walked a mile (didn't have a car) back to the video game rental store, leveled with them, "i walked a mile to and from to rent this earlier, and i didn't like it soooo much, i walked back to ask u if i could exchange it...". It was against there policy, but they said sure.

    PS1 game, yo [IMG]

Was an awesome game though, the GBA Advance version was really good too.

I liked FFXII but nowhere near as much as the previous games. The battle system practically ruined that game, the gambits made it so you didn't have to do anything in battles and outside of the battles there's not much to do in FF games... just lots of walking around pressing X.

Even the hardest bosses in the game could be fought without touching the pad, you could probably turn the TV off too but never tried.

Yeah I really didn't like Manhunt at all, never played the second one... The first was that bad I couldn't bring myself to try it.

So good I had to mention it again

All Final Fantasy's are like that.

Except VIII where you got to hit R1 after you hit X.

Feck, I think you're thinking of the PC version of RE4 that was bad. The Ps2 version of RE4 was surprisingly well done with added features. You supported no reasons why that version was bad compared to the others

Better than the Wii version with the motion controls? After playing RE4 on the PC and PS2 and then playing the Wii version I can never go back.

Though the Wii largely collects dust in my apartment I still will dust off my Wii copy of RE4 once a year and run through it for a week.

That's definitely true. After playing the Wii version, I prefer not to play the GC version. The controls just don't feel as nice.

Haha, yeah that's right. I really liked the turn based battles in older FF games though, especially X and X-2's battle system. Removing that and having a battle system where you didn't have to do anything at all was silly, imo.

FFXIII, it's good to see they've gone back to a battle system similar to X-2's [IMG]

The PS2 port just has lower quality visuals and sound, longer load times too. It also has some nasty slow down in a good few places, which isn't good... It's definitely not a complete mess like that PC port but i'd still rather play the GC or Wii versions.

    I recommend SotC.

At times looking for the next boss is an unnecessary pain. But once you find it its a real treat trying to slay it.

Too bad Shadow of the Colossus doesn't look that great in hi-res. It was utterly gorgeous on my tube when I had it and those component cables. Ico too, really awesome, and both were very unique.

Games I would have to recommend, besides the two I just talked about, would be:

    • Metal Gear Solid 3 (because it can't be mentioned enough!)
    • Onimusha 1 (stick with the JP dialogue [for the sake of the piggy's digestion])
    • Shadow Hearts 1 or 2/Covenant (but not 3, dear god, not 3...)
    • Tenchu: Fatal Shadows (the best Tenchu besides the first one IMHO)
    • Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (and now for something completely different)
    • PS2 is backwards compatible, so let me throw in Soul Reaver for PS1 [IMG] I haven't seen any honorable mention yet! (btw the PS2 Legacy of Kain games aren't as good)
    • Kya Dark Lineage or Beyond Good & Evil (not really my style but good games, you might enjoy them)
    • Maximo & the Army of Zin (goooooo boxer shorts~!)
    • Intermittently playing Valkyrie Profile 2 at the moment. Very challenging, and the pacing is much different from the first game, but I've heard good things about it.
That's all I can think of right now.

Hey Ladon, I really enjoy Fatal Shadows, but personally I think Tenchu 2 and 3 -> Birth of the Stealth Assassins, and Wrath of Heaven were the two best Tenchu games.

Although the way Fatal Shadows played, was probably the best out of the series. It's just what was in the game was lacking, I was upset ever since they took the map creation from part 2 out, and when they took the 2player mode out of part 3.

Have you ever played Tenchu Z? It's kind of wack.

Never played Tenchu Z, my access to the 360 is very small. I'm still tempted to take a look out of curiousity though.

I hated Tenchu 2 with a passion. The only thing good about it was the story. The AI became way easier to read, and the graphical "upgrade" made the game nigh-impossible for me to work with (having a backround in every stage forced the visible range of your ninja to be shorter than ever, and also gave the illusion of open areas). The battle in that game was also extremely clunky compared to part 1 (sheathing and unsheathing was way more troublesome than it should have been), and I dunno about you but I LOVED the music in part 1. The fact that there was hardly any music at all changed the mood in a way I didn't like so much.

I don't hate Tenchu 3 the way I do 2, but the level design just doesn't compare to 1 & Kurenai. One of the things that bothered me about Wrath of Heaven is that they took the simple plot of part 1 and made it convoluted. The gameplay was so-so, but Kurenai's was awesome.
