I purchased a Panny 50 inch GT25 from PC Richards with a 3 year warranty for about $1,030 a few months ago. Maybe I got lucky, but you honestly should visit the store and talk to a clerk once you narrow down which brand and type of TV you want.

I always knew I wanted a Panny I just had to figure which models suited my needs. It was between the G and V model and when I visited the store the clerk hooked me up with a great deal on the G because I decided to pay cash instead of financing. He gave it to me like $200 bucks less than what was posted on the website.

just figure out what brand you want bro and then visit the store and talk to a clerk..... you never know!

Thanks for the help. I've decided that saving money in the bank is more important.

I'd probably recommend buying a Plasma if Sport and TV shows (with less Mpeg noise) are your main criteria.

However, if console or PC gaming in 2D & 3D are paramount, then picture sharpness is probably a more important criteria, then I'd suggest a 10bit or 12bit(per RGB component LCD/LED panel that shows billions 2^30 or 2^36 colours, rather than 16.7 million colours like the 8bit vizio). And for 3D, prioritise active shutter technology over the lesser (but decent & cheap) polarizing 3D(theatre 3D as listed by the vizio).

If cost is the major issue; including total cost of ownership, LCD or LCD/LED hybrids are likely to offer much cheaper running costs by power consumption at comparative brightness and size than their plasma counterparts.

The 46” G25 I looked up uses 384Watts and my old KDL-46X3000 (US equivalent Sony KDL-46XBR3) uses 99watts less at 285Watts,

which could easily amount to an extra 722KiloWatt hrs or ~$180 or more (when assuming avg 5hrs per day use over 4 year lifetime, & paying an avg 25cent per KiloWatt hr).

If you are also trying to be a greener consumer in light of the recent ecological disasters, LCD/LED are greener technology and more cost effective for manufacturers to recycle than Plasmas, which will be another reason why companies like Sony abandoned Plasma in consumer space altogether many years back.

The charts for colour reproduction certainly have their place in choosing the best TV, but above 100,000:1 contrast ratio and billions of colours, the other compromise on features when buying a $1000 TV are likely be far more important to you(by their absence) imo; rather than the difference between almost amazing contrast/colour and best in class for that year.

As everyone else has been saying, the Plasmas are a no-brainer decision at face value of size, product cost and picture quality (for all but computer graphics/3D), but I thought I add a little balance to the discussion, so people aren't thinking that any option (Plasma, LCD, LED) is completely compromise free.
