Thats the problem, hardly anyone ever played Myth. I want to play a RTS not The Sims. I fear Starcraft 2 will only follow the trend.

How can I not love it? Because he is fucking dead because I killed him! (lol)

Anybody thinks Dungeon Master should be on the list?

Dungeon Master is a bit too niche to fit onto a best 100 games of all times list I think.

WC3's hero thing didn't gel with me. 10 vs 1 should cause the 1 to lose, end of story. I played WC2 to death, and realise it needed some defining of the races, which they did very well in part 3, the heroes were totally unneccessary though.

Starcraft was the first to add a level of meaningful micromanagement and it also didn't need heroes. The difference between mid and high level play in this game is insane though. SC is still Blizzard's crowning rts, WC3 is only still played by the masses because of user created content, tower defence, minigunners, that kind of thing, not because of the rts portion of the game.

Personally I prefer Red Alert as far as rts's go, different forces that still balanced one another out without requiring the complexity of all the special abilities and micromanagement that Blizzard likes to put into their games, the purity of the design is absolutely delightful.

    Sebo:
    Myth was bloody great, literally.

Duke3d is indeed overrated. Blood is the best of the shooters of that generation by having better weapons, a better sense of humour, a story line that makes sense and is rather gripping, plus a cooler bad-ass anti-hero in "I live again!" Caleb. But then I think Duke3d is on the list because of Ken Silverman's Build Engine. That simple tool that was released to the public together with the game almost single handedly created the modding/level building scene. That guy deserves a statue or something, or at least more name recognition.

Aside: wc = toilet in dutch...

Did everyone forget about the doom series. Thats what got me into pc gaming. Not to mention command and conquer. Plus SSF2T pc version.

I was #3 in the world in ranked myth 2 (I had the Eclipse)during one high school summer ('98?) -- complete rank whore who played LMOTH or BC Trow. After the rank reset, I retired to FFA light units in unranked -- much more fun. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Doom definitely has to be on there. BTW Total Annihilation > SC IN EVERY aspect.

    Not enough of us.

Bungie turned to shit with Halo.

"Hey guys, lets stop taking risks like we did with Myth and Oni and make a generic FPS!"

LOL FFXII is a terrible game compared to others in the series. Shadow of Collisus and Killer 7 should have been higher.
Virtua Fighter 4 Evo should have taken VF5s place imo.

I could see arguing EVO on console higher than 5 on console due to the options and amount of content for it. But I do feel 5 is a better game all around, graphically and play wise. Granted, my opinion on the funfactor is subjective, but so is that list so hey lol.

Man, I really can't name a top 100, it would take such a long time to remember even obscure old games that were great. It would be better as a genre, but here is a try.

Best Sports Game Ever: Put it this way, in 5 years I can still play it, In 10 years, I could still play it, in 15 or 20 years it's still would be good. Best Sports game ever is Tecmo Super Bowl.

Best Fighting Game ever: Obviously on this board it's a touchy subject. SF2 is most monumental, but to ME I think it's a bit dated despite it still having a large following, especially with super turbo. SFIII was great and NOT dated, BUT the characters suck, and some of the music suck. Where SFII had almost NO boring characters and You simply CAN'T find a Bad Stage music. Best might end up being an online version of VF5 on the 360 or VF5 evolution ONLINE with more stages, Fully fledged training mode, FMV endings, and a decent storyline. Anyways, in this category, there are a ton of contenders from the 2D Street Fighters, to the 3D Soul Caliburs out there.

Best FPS: Though it was like a Hybrid game, Nothing is Deus EX, but I could understand someone taking something like Half-Life and it's expansion pack because of it's off and online success, and so on.

Best RPG: Final Fantasy VII. Tons of competiton from Chrono Trigger, FFVI, FFIV, FFX, and FFXII. Plus several other non- Square games.

Best Platformer: Super Mario 3, some some close competion from Mega Man 2 and 3.

Best Adventure: I never fully got into Ocarina of time, which is a shame. So for ME it is either the original Zelda, or Zelda a link to the past.

Best Beat'em Up: Streets of Rage 2.

Best Super Hero Game: X-Men 2: the Clone Wars

Best 3rd Person action game: maybe God of War but there are So many on the list that I can't even begin to start.

Best 3rd person Stealth: Slight Edge go to Metal Gear Solid 1 vs. 3. But I could accept Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance Limited Edition. As that was so complete that i even bought what is essentially the same game twice. Something I would NEVER do.

Best Strategy: I don't play much in that genre, I would then say Her Zog Zwi.

    Best Overall Game

    1. Final Fantasy VII
    2. Xenogears

From there it's tough. Maybe Deus Ex, but I haven't replayed it in a long time, so I don't know if it aged well. You know how it is, you use to like something, and then later on it aged poorly (Thundercats, and a lot of the old cartoons). X-men aged well, and a lot of the animes age well.) Metal Gear Solid might be 3rd also.

Best game for me? VF5 because it's fun to watch matches from time to time. It's almost like watching the olympics or something. The one thing I enjoy most about this game is the realism but without the blood and violence. It feels like a clean sport.

But originally, I bought my PS3 (my first game console since the Sega Saturn) because of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which I have absolutely no complaints about because I lived and breathed comic books as a kid. Compared to what I've seen in the arcades and the home systems up to the Saturn days, this game did justice to the Marvel Universe. This was actually the only PS3 game that didn't disappoint me graphically when I first saw it.

Today, all I play is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which was disappointing at first visually and playwise but then is now one of my favorites as my eyes and skills adjust along the way. Like VF5, the graphics didn't impress at all at first, but they start to look better each time I give these games another chance.

I've played resistance fall of man the most, I think. The atmophere is really immersive, but it's boring now.
