In all seriousness, to each his own. That said, I think it's a bit excessive and a little silly to take such copious notes for a video game, especially one that requires such instant, muscle memory kinds of reactions. I get that notes can be helpful; it certainly couldn't hurt. I just feel the need to tease it a bit. I mean, it's not like you can stop in the middle of a fight like, "Oh, hold on! Let me check my notes." Please understand that I'm exaggerating, here.

Well the point of notes is that you memorize that important information over time, but you write it down so it doesn't go forgotten once it is first discovered. You could probably make use of some note taking as well. In fact everyone could!

Haha no worries. I can definitely see someone else finding this silly. And most people wouldn't need something like this. I just refer to some of the notes before a match, or write something down after a match. That and writing things on a whiteboard is an addiction... I need a support group.

EDIT: LOL forgot a huge reason I started doing it. That's my friends room(living at his house right now), he's a brand new VF player. He even dropped money on a stick to learn to play. So a lot of the stuff on there is for him, like we have the weight classes up there and stuff.

The first time I saw it was at the last Final Round, but it made sense to me, since it was most everyone's first experience with Final Showdown. He was jotting down move changes (or, that's what it looked like). And that or your new player example is kind of what I meant by saying that notes can be helpful. They're just counter-productive for me, personally, most of the time. Even in school, I was never a note-taking kind of guy. Except in Mathematics, where I would take notes but never look at them, afterwards. Still aced most tests, but that's prossibly because I honestly enjoy Math.
Key word there is "could." It's possible, but it's doubtful that there would be any real difference for me. As it's been stated, many people do benefit from it for various reasons, but it doesn't even occur to me to write anything down between fights. I just keep playing and improving as best I can.

I don't find it neccessarily excessive. I know guys who make spreadsheets for 2D games even. And especially since the fg resurgence a couple years back, whereas we could go to arcades and grind it out, learn by trial and error and experience, newer players want, no demand, these resources. And then refer to them frequently. Nothing wrong with notetaking though. JustFrameJames, a top tekken player, carries a notebook with him to every tourney. We call it the Holy Bible. But in it, he's got character specific punishment, combos, situations, all that stuff. Any other time I'd call this ultra geeky, but JFJ is such a flashy, smart, and entertaining player to watch and play against that whatever's really in that notebook automatically validates itself.

I couldn't bring myself to jot notes down though. Execution of stuff in actual matches against real players is the best thing imo. Even knowledge and special scenarios, I feel that if you can react and recall them in real settings a few times, that they will be permanently integrated into your overall game for you to pull from at appropriate time. The one time I made a specific punishment list for a chara that one of my guys played that I couldn't beat, I used it for maybe like 15 minutes after I compiled it. Then it was trash.

Never said there was anything wrong with it, if you'd care to reread my statements.

I didn't say you said anything was "wrong" with it, if you'd care to reread MY statements. But, since you brought it up...

Cool; just making sure I'm not being attacked, is all. Glad there are some people who don't try for those underlying meanings.

It's often hard to tell if someone is speaking harshly or just really honestly putting forth his opinion. Either way, your input seems to be the generally popular notion around here. I suppose I should be happy that people write anything down at all (not necessarily in relation to video games).
