1) Then the hardcore players will need to interact with other players who are not so hardcore ..then teach them the in-depths.
2) That usually stops them from doing the above, so its not really a good idea. They'll know more ppl if they do the above frequently.

Thats usually the pattern i see before a game become really big....eg, Street Fighter! There are consoles but see the number of ppl still playing SF Super Turbo 2? /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Been reading points raised by you and Zhifeng. Very good. About playing at home or jamborees at home. Problem is that we usually have 1 TV set. The PS2 is very portable but limited by the TVs we have. SG-Lion has offered to lug his TV to whoever's place but seriously do you want him to do that? A 14-inch is pretty lame to play on so you need a 20-incher and above. Now that is heavy!

Let me suggest this, we still have our jamborees at homes of various players for purposes of socializing, getting to know each other's sisters, girlfriends, wives, dog.... and then we have an all out rumble with scoresheets and ladders at the console cafe opposite SLS once a while.

A plus about it is that there are many TV sets. They also have their PS2s. But you can bring your own sticks and game disks there. We don't even need to bring our PS2s. It is downtown and easily accessible. Downside is that we have to pay for the usage of the sets. It is charged per hour. But if many people show up, it is cheaper than the arcade with each play at 50cents. We can even change the no. of rounds blah blah blah.

But have to admit its damn worth while if thats the case. I'd do that too!

Any idea how much they charge over there? I know its definitely gonna be cheaper then playing at arcades..but just wish to know coz i dun have a PS2 but SC2 is launching soon so i might just buy the Game and go there enjoy...hehehe many people there?

Just wondering when would the game reach Singapore. Would it be a day b4 the actual launch in Japan? I used to own a Saturn and sometimes games can hit Singapore shores a day or two b4 the launch in Japan.

Come to think of it, the game will be out in Singapore in about more than a week’s time.

Because he is one of us! And we believe that playing in aracde is a waste of money.

I am not trying to be a wet blanket but although your ideas are quite good there is still a very major issue which is very hard to address.

Lets assume that Bugis had the VF4 Evo liao.
Gathering planned at 10am.
Who will be there at exactly 10am?
Probably anyone who is free, right?

At the end of the day, the most likely hardcore players to come will not exceed 10. And the best part is that not all of them will come together. So what do we get at the end of the day?

Let's say I go at exact 10am. Nobody there? Maybe got a few newbie but I won't challenge because later others might say you bully newbies (I not saying I very good but some newbies don't even know that guarding is pressing G, they probably think its the same as Street Fighter - hold back can liao) 1 hour later, Wilson and wildy came. By that time, I will be damn xian liao cause waited 1 hour. Another 1 hour passed challenging each other, brain dead liao cause Its just Me, Wilson and Wildy. Danny and Ice-9 come 2hous later due to work commitments. Then it become 5 of us till the end of the day. If we are lucky, maybe got a few more who are free will pop up. If we are unlucky, maybe the second person came at 3 pm. What would you feel if you are the first? I can tell you if I not hardcore, I probably go home and sleep liao.
Ask youurself why bother to try you luck by going early when you know everyone else got stuffs to do and might be late?
Again, ask yourself why bother to organise if like that?
Lastly, I might as well organise it in the comfort of my house. I just do my own stuffs until the first person comes. We start to challenge until others come. You might tell me that they will be late (probably) but I can probably stop playing and watch TV, surf net or discuss game strategies.

U forgot to mention that we have been playing VF since VF2. hehe.

Arcade too expensive. Might as well save the money and spend on pizza, while having one of those VF gaming “parties” at Zhifeng’s place.

Zhifeng, u must get the game asap. Hehe. My set sure can’t play the Japanese PS2 evo. Still have to wait a while.

My main vision is to try widening the VF4 Community so that players can have more opponents and learn new stuffs together. I tried to contact the owner of this website to let us have a forum of our own(SG's Very Own Forum!)..but was declined due to certain reasons..

All in all, i'm just trying to widen the community so pls dun keep telling me its costly to play at arcades...hehe

Anyway, pple like myself have too many commitments. And, going down to the arcade isn't the best thing in our group's mind (ie, zhifeng, dan dan, ice9, etc).

Lets me quote what ice-9 said when he went to yishun sometime back. "I spend more money on taxi than on playing the game." He was a little late that evening and the arcade closed around 1130 to 1200.

But, even b4 1130, the cashier wasn't quite happy when we wanted to buy more tokens. Its like the arcade staff were preparing to "da yang" and our group was "disturbing" them. u know that kind of feeling. quite telok one. almost going home, but another customer comes in and ask for another burger, jus when u finish washing up the kitchen.

I rather go to someone's house. at least, while waiting can talk and rot at my own comfort. hehe. can ask zhifeng's maid to cook maggie mee, b4 i play. zhifeng, ur maid's fried rice really bland. next time, i bring my own maggie mee there. haha.

Well, I think what the guys are saying is it's much easier and cost saving to meet and play in one's own house than in the arcades.

If u have been in the VF community since VF 1st started u will notice that it has been shrinking with each new version of VF release. There isn't much new blood around playing VF as to what I notice.
When most of us have not got our PS2. We had our fair share at playing at the arcade n 2 rounds 4 $1 at the beginning is quite expensive 4 some of us as well as the rounds r 2 short. Furthermore sometimes it takes forever 4 the arcade management 2 bring it in. It is not cheap bringing in 1 of those machine, maybe that is 1 of the reason not many of the arcades r bringing it in also. Comes back 2 few ppl r playing it.
Most of the HC VF players know each other so having it in 1 of the player's home seems 2 b more practical. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes there is such a place as a console cafe. I think the only one. It is in Bencoolen I think. The building next to SLS with Burger King. It is next to this small minimart selling Korean stuff. They have PS2s, Xbox mainly. I saw only 2 GC there. Owner is nice and place closes at 12am. The cost is 4 bucks an hour for a console. With membership is 3 bucks an hour and there is some points accumulation thingy. Points accumulated allows you to buy stuff from affiliate console shops or stuff at discounts.

 

I've already mod my set. U can try asking the rest of the guys n c if they want 2 mod togather. About the price I think u can try n negotiating with the shop no harm trying. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

 

You can choose Seow Choon. May get discounted rate. The uncle sort of know I'm very hardcore. Still remembers me as being a regular at the JE shop when I go to the Rochor shop.
