Its probably not acurate to say and generalize that the 'Japanese' are scared of nappy hair and African features'.

I don't think you really mean that. Also fighting games like
the K-1 grand prix for the PS2 had nappy hair and African features in it. And I think that company was Japanese. Jeffrey's hair appears to be nappy /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

So I don't think you really meant to engage in gross generalization right?

Now maybe there is room for a Ernesto Hoost, Jim Kelly, or even Wesley Snipes type fighters in VF

As long as Sega maintained good balance, kept legitimate fighting styles, and never added fire-balls (or any other pyrotechnics) Its all good.

Hell, I'd like to see a little more homage paid to the old dudes that are often featured in the kung-fu classics from the 80's.

Although Shun has some of that goin on, VF could use a little more of that Eagle Claw Fist, Pai Mae (From Kill Bill) type stuff. Everybody knows its the dude with the long silver eye brows that has the real skillz, you that masters of the flying gillotine type stuff (more or less)

Granted some of that stuff doesn't have any basis in reality
but It did (in part) provide the who basis for arcade fighting games in the first place /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Sega VF seems to do such a good job with the styles (i.e. Goh, Eileen, Shun, etc...) putting a Street Fighter or Professional Boxer style would be cool as hell, but would they have the balls to do it. I would mind seeing a male counter part to Aoi, but slower, stronger and of course bigger. A true Valdo style or a submission artist would be nice to and I'm not talking about some water down styles either if you are going to add a submissions expert than he/she damn site better be able to get the opponent to submit.

Why not just make the next character Sugar Ray Robinson?

That would be awesome. The series could use a black man not type-casted like Jeffry.

Input a punch string, input 4 on hit or block or even whiff to evade, act accordingly.

    His stats being:
    Practically no lows
    Short range
    Bad throws
    No full circulars

    Tons of half-cirulars
Fast highs that give good advantage on block
    Good mids
    Fast attacks
    Maybe a punch parry?
    Taunt/sabakis
    Better evasion than Brad

Problem with this character is that he'd be a legless Brad/nonbroken-Steve though.
    ------

Well, I'd like to see either Lau dying and Pai's movelist turns into his, or just killing Pai. OR JUST NERF HER.

Maybe a Hokuto Shinken practitioner would come with the boxer.

Fighting styles adopted for or enchanced in VF from these
    top 10 movies

    Drunken Master
    Fist of Fury
    36th Chamber of Shaolin
    The Magnificent Butcher
    Executioners from Shaolin
    The Five Venoms
    The Secret Rivals
    Heroes of the East
    Master of the Flying Guillotine
The Seven Grandmasters (Pai mei action!)

Now of course VF already has some of this, e.g Shun Di, Jacky.,
But they could refine and improve the animation and add some of the other other fighting styles found in these.

Nice observation there masterpo i love those movies. I felt to post this nice compilation video of Hwang Jang Lee one of the best kickers in the world. He was an awesome villian in martial arts movies.

This concept you describe will work for some other styles too, and if it will be something another that boxing, this char will not look like non-kicking Brad. And it will be interesting to have someone like this - strong and flexibile HIGH-MID mixups will be something new in VF I think /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Didn’t think anyone would dig the pure boxer . Sebo/ Unicorn great ideas! Add in some Brad dodges/faints/stammers/haymakers and a little razzle dazzle and Booya.

I don't see how anyone couldn't at least have some interest in it.

I mean, I'd like to see a huge difference in the series.

I mean forcing nitaku with a mid and a high, that if blocked, leads to even more options. Of course this character would suck ass versus characters like Lei-Fei.

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

I imagine this character like something like this:

He will have just few basic moves. And - he will have a lot of cancel moves, like Eileen - but not with just one "cancel stance", but with more (different) of them.

Most of his high attacks or series will lead to some of his "cancels" - most of the moves will lead to one of them, but some will allowe to go for different ones at the same time. From all cancels, he will have some high moves (both linear and half circular) and high (or high-mid) strings (purely linear); and single MID attacks. Most of that high moves will lead to another cancels stances (which will have again moves with cancel possibilities...), MIDs will be mostly jgl starters or will lead to knd (to force okizeme), mostly without cancelings. High attacks will be quick and will give some advantage even on block, MIDs will lead to disadvantages, but mostly up to about -8 (safe). This is because you have nearly no need to crouch (beside to situation you try to break offence of this char), you can just stand and block.

Against such character, if you wish to be offensive, you must:
    a) guard high and wait for MID (and eat some of his weak throws; plus maybe character like this can have some slow, high and heavy staggering attack)
    b) try to evade (and maybe eat some of his half circulars just to be in even greater disadvantage; plus eat his weak throws)
    c) duck /low jab (and eat his strong MID starters)
    e) sabaki him (this will be great problem of this char)

If this char will be under preasure, he can use
    a) his evasion moves (which can lead to some cancel options)
    b) his sabakis (this char will need lot of sabaki moves, mainly against LOWs)
    c) evade (and then quickly take advantage)
    d) backdash (into nearly nothig, because of the short range)
    e) duck (and then quickly take advantage)

I think it will be something new and something different for VF... But it's maybe just my own oppinion.

BTW I will never play character like this /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Well, I'd think of feints that lead to other moves.

    Hypothetical move:

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (20i), +6 block, telegraphs so much (back arm winds up) that good opponents can duck or poke you out of it on reaction. It can be /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif-canceled which leads to unique moves:

(these attacks won't be to fast if you realize that the cancel takes 10-15i)
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif- faster high (6i), -8, knocks down for awesome oki.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif- High punch sabaki, fast jab (5i), -4 otherwise. Even or -1 on block.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif- Mid punch (8i).

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif- like Sarah's FL, or Brad's ducking, this is a LP sabaki.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif[8]_[2]- dodges tons of shit, depending on stance more moves are available (open/closed)

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif[8]_[2]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif-OM

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif[4]- backward spin, leads to more moves

    ETC!

He'd have throws, but limited in damage. I'm thinking of a clinch that give no damage but crazy frame advantage.

Hit throws would kick ass. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(HIT)/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif an attack where the boxer (better be like Sugar Ray!!) leans back and delivers a high punch to the face while putting his body into it and as the punch connects his body is in a ducking position. The /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif part his him delivering many 1 damage punches to the opponent's stomach (like a speed bag) and finishes it up with a high hook for KD (60 [25+1X25+10] damage total?). This move will be unsafe, -14, and slow at 26i, but it dodges highs at the beginning and end of animation.

I would total give this guy a spin for the novelty of it all... but this got me thinking: why are we doing this? Sega/Am2 will only pick some other style for VF6 and make another /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif character. At least Pai will die of A.I.D.S. for being such a cheap whore.

So much wasted effort and brainstorming.

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

I think about this and I personally don't like the idea of non-kicking boxer; he will be too easy to own by some certain sabaki moves. Then I come with idea, that most of this stuff we post here will fit on...

    Thai-chi.

    Lot of sabaki moves.
    Great evasion moves.
    Float in moves.
    Lot of possibilites.
    Fast attacks.
    Short range.
    No lows.

Ok, bad throws are a little weired /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif And Thai-chi will make more sence in that sabaki part; will be original, and - it will take us out of "it-is-Steve-you-morons" and "it-is-nonkicking-Brad-morons" scheme.

Ouch. Too true. Damn you, Sega! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

It could work if they gave him a lot of fakes.
Being able to fake a lot of his moves would totally fuck with sabaki or reversal characters like Lei-Fei.

Anyway, it's interesting to see how serious and how far some people can take this. It's almost like fantasy football, without the winning/losing money part. It would be kinda cool to see AM2 take any one of these ideas and making them true but... I'm not totally sure, but I think they wont because whosever idea they use that person might be able to sue AM2 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif
I'm not a lawyer so I dont know for sure but then again, it IS Sega, they dont listen to us anyway, meh.

And i hope in a karate based character. It's strange Sega didn't make a character like that, maybe because akira looks like a karate man. But karate is one of the most popular martial arts in the world, why don't make a character like that?
