Buakaw Por Pramuk is one hell of a fighter.

Penkjat Silat or Tai Chi would be cool to see in a fighting game.

We get these events on tv some two months after the fact here so I don't keep up with the agendas much (else I'll get spoilered all over the place). So I just read the matchups.

I'm not keeping my hopes up for Souwer (despite the pants) or Kraus really, but they might surprise me. I expect Buakaw to be the star of the event once again. I definately think that Zambidis is dangerous, but personally I'm rooting for Drago.

Its funny though that Buakaw only seems to lose to Dutchmen...

Dekker is retired. Dude is now more or a less a living legend. Muay Boran would be cool to see.

They wheeled Dekkers out for a super fight last year during the Amsterdam 'It's Showtime' event. Was cool to see him again but he was obviously out of practice, lost to Mes.

The audience was really crap that evening, boo-ing and stuff, bunch of crackpots. A fight broke out too, one guy fell/leapt down four seat rows, about ten metres to my left, that was rather spectacular. (Track down the Hoost vs Aerts fight (the latter stepped into the ring unprepared to cover for Schilt) and listen to the crowd in the background.)

Are you talking about expanding Brad's movelist or adding a new fighter?

+1 to the Hapkido and male Aoi counterpart. (Aoi's Father perhaps?)

As much as I would like to see a karate fighter I think it would conflict too much with Akira, unless you make the fighter a female. Then it's Tekken.

I support the pimp-ass black boxer though. Perhaps he should have a specialization in wall pressure or something?

    Add this one too:

Old Dude fighter. Long white eye browse, hair, with one or more of the styles:

    chin na
    wing chun
    yng shuz quan
    tai-chi
    hung gar
    eagle claw

This could be Shun Di, but I think he is limited to drunken master. So we need another old dude with one or more of the above stylz.

Add another female, also older than pai, that could
    use Wudang styles.

kinda like Michele Yoeh in Crouching Tiger.

    That was Wudang style right?

Here I quote that from wikipedia.
    Maybe It might Interested you

"Pencak silat is a system that consists of sikap-sikap or kuda-kuda (positions) and gerak-gerik (movements). When pesilat (silat practitioners) are moving (when fighting) these sikap and gerak-gerik change continuously. As soon as one finds an opening in their opponent's defense, they will try to finish the opponent with a fast serangan (attack)."

"The pesilat, or silat practitioner, practices with djurus - a series of meta-movements for the upper body used as a guide to learn the applications, or buah, when done with a partner. The use of langkah (steps), or lower body meta movements teach the use of footwork. When combined, it is dasar pasang, or whole body flow. This is common to most Asian martial arts and called kata in Japanese."

On second thought Pencak Silat does used too many kata. But I really like to see their movement it's like dancing...sort of.
Back in my place they perform Pencak Silat with traditional music and costumes on ceremonial days.
I don't know much actually only seen it a couple of times. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

Should char design reflect his/her style?

When YES, what about Jacky? He is not a small guy from Asia but moves more like Bruce Lee than Law from Tekken who is almost a clone of him.

When NO, maybe we should stop complain about Brad who doesn't look like Muay Thai master...You know another Sagat/SF or Bruce/Tekken could be silly so we got a Brad. And yes I know it should be Vanessa using Muay Thai making us happy, but for me someone in SEGA likes "Blood Sport" movie and Brad is like Paco.

Shun and Lion stunned in VF2,Taka didn't in VF3.Since then we received a 6 new char and they all are USED.Let's have some trust that someone new in VF5Evo in a year or two or in VF6 later
will be first well-balanced then unique and after that we can talk about his sex/age/birthplace/outfit

ps.I would like to see my favorite Aoi in police outfit like Janet in Fighters Megamix

Char design could reflect the style, but I'm quite happy that VF sometimes doesn't go the easiest way (like NOT making the resident JKD practicioner a small Chinese "uuuoooooOOOOooo!!!" type of guy, or having Brad being an Italian). Keeps thigs interesting.

Besides, when you practice a martial art the only thing that is almost certain to happen is that you develop some muscles (VF: check), not that you will magically change into the "most common practicioner stereotype", so there's no grounds to say "he doesn't look like a Muay Thai fighter!" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif . Nevertheless, I believe that practicioners of more esoteric styles in VF (for example, if we were to get a Tai Chi guy/gal) should come from its country of origin to be more credible, but that's just my opinion.

Speaking of Aoi, what I would really like to see her wearing is a plain, white student's gi as a contrast to her usual flowing robes... Could be interesting. But whatever /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

Question about design/style is also about attracting people to VF.About playing VF for fun not mastering it.And then "how it looks" is more important than "how deep is it".Talking about our wishes about possible new chars we should consider if VF needs someone like Eddy/Tekken3 who looks cool, moves cool and would bring many casual players to game even if he would not fit completly in VF world...

And maybe El Blaze is a half step that SEGA made to do it...

And maybe in VF/Tekken crossover they melt Wolf with King, erase Brade with Bruce, split Sarah moves into Nina and Hworrang...and blah blah blah...they both or separately do exactly what they need to sell more games.Let's hope that VF still be based on gameplay...

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

The main problem I have is when fighters do not reflect their style in execution. Jeffry has damn near no ground game. Pancertion was mostly about beating the living shit out of people on the ground.
Brad has very little from the clinch. They made his low roundhouses do very little damage. No high hitting teep. His punch strings should end with kicks more (thai's punch to kick where european kickboxers kick to punch).
Vanessa has no triangle choke. Thats the bread and butter of a brazilian vale-tudo artist. Though I'll say she is pretty decent...more of her throws should allow for her to attack on the ground.
I recommended the videos I posted so people could see/get a better idea of what a style should look like. Don't need new characters, but maybe a swap or adjustment to the moves.

Does anybody knows about this art Taekkyon? I never heard of it but it looks interesting it seems to be the ancient form or Tae Kwon Do anyway it's another idea for a new VF character.

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

Haven heard of that one., but so far we have votes for

    Penkjat Silat
    wing chun
    tai chi
    chin na
    tae kwon do
    xing yi
    hung gar

If Sega could legitimately add these styles without screwing up the balance.. and take a little more height off the juggle... Whoaa!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

Taekkyon would be awesome...its like an acrobatic mix of thai boxing (low kicks), tai-chi, and bua-gua.
