I honestly think Jacky represents JKD better then any other JKD character ever in a fighting game. I have trained JKD, the way Jacky punches and kicks is almost identical to what I did in JKD training. they just modified a lot of them and based a lot of his moves off of Hollywood JKD Bruce Lee used in his movies.

Besides the styles I previously mentioned, I would also love to see a more exotic fighting style. Something like Gatka, Varma Kalai, Kuttu Varisai, and Krav Maga would be cool.

Being that I do capoeira, obviously I'd like to see a capoeira character but one thats done RIGHT. Not to say the existing ones are done completely wrong, Its just they could be better.

Prime examples are Eddy and Christie from Tekken. For one in a real fight we would never do the side to side motion called the "Ginga". Thats only for the "game" of Capoeira, not real fights. If a VF character had the ginga, it'd make the whole open/closed stance deal all the more a pain in the ass. 2nd Eddy and christie sort of represent the mainstream view of what everybody thinks capoeira is, and yes truth be told there are people who do capoeira like them but usually all that fanciness is reserved for perfomances or special games of capoeira where flips and tricks are what is required. This video is an example of what people think all capoeira is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv-WMFWpjo0

3rd Eddy has none of capoeira's nasty Takedowns. Capoeira has takedowns that hit you faster than the blink of an eye and can break legs. Instead namco gives him some randon "breakdancer throws" that they pulled out of their asses. This gives people the idea that capoeira is just a bunch of fancy kicks and twists and flips when if fact, many people who do capoeira can't do any flips past a cartwheel such as my teacher.

Eddy gordo is a character to please the layperson who doesn't know much about capoeira. But you can't be mad because its a game and games are supposed to be extremely exciting.

What most people never see is the other aspects of capoeira. The slower and sneakier ways of playing(my bread and butter, heh) such as this video of what we call "capoeira Angola":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQqQu05bkAg

Or the Capoeira in MMA circuits demonstrated by here by Vinicios(dark skinned guy):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMLoHTf7OKM

In a nutshell after my long winded grip post. I feel a Capoeira character would be an interesting addition to the VF cast and I feel that from Sega AM2's past examples that they'd deliver a more realistic representation of Capoeira. I would think they'd do a little more research and deliver a complete capoeira fighter. Don't get me wrong, Namco did do their research(some of the little things still suprise me) but they also made alot of mistakes.

If they do capoeira as for the next vf char, I would love to see an angola player.

I agree as i posted before a street bare knuckle fighter like Kimbo Slice is needed! We need more black representatives!

As for Capoeira i hope it comes in the next EVO this could drag more players to VF since a lot of people practice it and it's a very distinctive style.

Capoeira is deadly! Death in a roda of Capoeira:

Gotta love Capoeira... "Look at how evasive we are!" and then as soon as anybody feels like it they grab the other and it's amateurwrestlinghour. No, scratch that, 5th grade no-clue brawling.

Please dear God, no Capoeira.

Im really into JKD and wing chun and besides a few punches jacky doesnt have shit about JKD. JKD kicks ALWAYS use stepping in them and a lot of punches too. I like to see it as grounding your energy. But i dont wanna get into flow of chi or anything of the sort. In short terms its the idea of being grounded in order for the energy to circulate better and being more explosive. Its like a trigger for bouncing energy flow through your body. But Jacky doesnt do that. Wing chun however doesnt use stepping. thats the big diffference between jkd and Wing chun. More kicking in jkd also but not that much.
Jeet kune do
Demonstration
Notice the stepping in the video. The foward leg steps a tiny bit first followed by the back leg which serves as a kind of spring ( triyng to simplifie things here) for the front leg or the punch. Stepping is the basis of movement of JKD.

Personnaly i really dont see the ressemblance between JKD and any character ever made out of the style so a first would be nice. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

^@MysticBoudha You could be very correct, I don't know the details of JKD or have experience in it. However, as Fatal Rose mentioned, his moves really do follow Bruce Lee's stylized moves from the movies. At first I didn't see much of a resemblance to JKD or even Bruce at all, but there's a lot of subtle moves he uses which are almost identical to ones Bruce uses. It tends to be more of his moves off of SS, or his hop fake, or his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and even back turned stuff where I really notice it. But even his basic /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif strings have elements of what I know JKD to be. I'm with Fatal Rose on this one, in that I think out of all the Bruce Lee knockoffs, they have him better portraying JKD better than the rest. Maybe it would be better to say that, he's the best at immitating "Jun Fan Jeet Kun Do" and not so much JKD.

Do I think they could have done it more accurately though? Yeah, most likely. But I think AM2 is kind of in a tough situation when doing this. I bet part of them wanted to keep his old moves and style established early on in the series to please long-time fans of Jacky. And the other part is, they have to make his style functional, balanced and proper to the game, limiting their freedom in designing the accuracy of the martial art.

That all said, I'd love to see some additions to his style, much like what we saw in that demonstration. (That demonstration you linked is amazing btw, homeboy looks solid). Makes me wish Jacky could do that side-shimmy (pardon my ignorance of the proper name, at 1:30 in the clip) that he does in the demo, and even Bruce does a lot in his movies.

EDIT: Oh, and to go with the literal definition of Jeet Kun Do, Jacky does have his neutral stance /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif counter haha.

Uh. Jacky doesn't represent JKD very well. He represents it well AS IT WAS PRACTICED BY BRUCE LEE. Those specific movements he did was fine-tuned to his body type and fighting style.

EVERYBODY in JKD fights different. No Style, remember?

That being said, if anybody embodies the spirit of JKD -- It's Sarah. A loose "Martial Arts" definition of style from AM2... she utilizes some boxing, grappling, even a few dirty strikes... but most importantly, it's the seemingly amalgam of other styles.

JKD, for all intents and purposes, IS a MMA. The only way Sarah could better represent it is if she pulled off people's eyelids, bit them, jabbed them in the eye, etc.

Actually when I first had the idea of a capoeira character in VF, i thought of an Angoleiro. It'd be interesting to see another character who wasn't a kung fu character give Shun Di a run for his money, lol.

New Character:

The play style is the most unique of any character ever, the diplomat.

Hitting him results in you losing because of diplomatic immunity.

Its true that everybody fights different but they were some base principles in jkd. Bruce actually said that to him JKD was a way to express himself it was is own definition of martial arts. But the fact of the matter his JKD became what Bruce made out of JKD. Its a mixed martial art that takes about 90 of the wing tsun system and added some changes to make the style even more efficient in real fighting.

True that the Pak sao his used by Bruce Lee but Pak sao his one of the basic technique of wing tsun. Anyways i do agree that some of Jacky's moves look like some of Bruce in his movie but what you see in the movie his for show its not JKD. A bit his but not a lot. Bruce Lee was far better than what you see in the movies. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Did you guys knew that he could straight blast( Chain punching with full extension punches at ridiculous speed) at a speed of 120 punches in 10 seconds. Bruce was an insane fighter. LOL just a fun thing to know. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Char and fighting style you want for a future

I do believe they need to add more accurate punching combinations/counters for Jacky in VF.
Here is some of the moves that ARE JKD with few modifications;
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif , I have all the Bruce Lee JKD books, it is nearly exactly the same, only difference is the added low kick in the beginning. Ending result/animation is almost the same.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(then a bunch more round kicks) Bruce Lee has done this move in several movies.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(VF4 EVO) the punches are very JKD/kick boxing, specially the ending hook kick, Bruce did a lot of hook kicks.
Also, same command in VF5 but different move and can go into elbow back fist, very Bruce Lee Hollywood style.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, finger jab is something commonly used in JKD.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, nearly identical to the hook kick tought in the JKD book, done by Bruce.

Ok I will stop :p, but I think Sega is getting closer and closer to a better representation of JKD with each installment. It's just going to take time because they don't want to stray to far away to fast due to veteran Jacky players already accustomed to his fighting style. Yes I know a lot of it is based off of Bruce Lee's Hollywood moves and mannerisms. Still a lot better then every other JKD character in a fighting game.

I do agree that it is better in a certain way but its far from being JKD. I would really like for a true JKD or WIng Tsun char that captures the essence of what JKD or Wing chun really is;)

They need to give Jacky more traping moves/counters and more varied puunch combinations found in wing tsun/JKD.

I'd like a more realistic approach to Wing Tsun and just have Jacky be a stuttering retard with fast but useless kicks and punches.

just saying.
