I don't think that is an opinion. I think that is a fact.

TBF to DOA. It's a guard button isn't it? You hold it and you block. I'm sure DOA has the same control scheme as VF, or at least, it used to.

Yeah, same sort of deal. The free button is basically your guard button in VF. You can hold back to block like most 2D fighters as well.

Believe it or not, there's more to DOA than just block and hold...

I noticed a couple of sidesteps here and there.

Not sure about this game yet. It looks good, different from all other DOA's, but the game is so fast that I am not sure what defensive options one can take other than pressing the G button.

As usual, I might be biased coming from years of VF, but something seems off. we will see. I fully intend to get the game as I got all other DOA's.

I like what I'm seeing much more than I thought.

Visually, i love the minimal UI over the craziness of the juggles/explosions.

There is a lot of potential, let's hope that this turns out deep enough to be actually fun, and not a semi-random counterfest.

I just saw the latest video for the game (Ayane vs Hitomi) and that damn power blow still annoys me. It really does affect the pace of the game and turns it more casual. I'm like 50/50 on it so unsure until I play the demo.

I'm so glad they're implementing alot of things from 3.1... This means that there will actually be true combos, and guaranteed hits, possibly guaranteed punishes since there will be + frames and such...

I didn't manage to see any powerblows hit characters blocking, but I do hope that there's some sort of guard crush that actually serves a purpose, unlike in DOA4.1, where you could still manage to counter even though your guard was broken...

My only beef is the camera right now... I hope it doesn't mess you up like in SFEX3, but that it works kinda like how Tobal No. 1's camera was...

I like DOA always have. Looking forward to it and to VF5FS this summer. But I must comment on this defense and advanced defense statement. If you qualify your statement to say that VF does defense and advanced defense better than any other arcade fighter out there, then you are 1,000,000% right [IMG]

Fighting game though is too broad. Here's why, the mixed martial arts fighting games that THQ puts out count as fighting games. Sure, we could say fighting simulations, or combat simulations, but they are still fighting games. And the latest version UFC 3 has an arcade mode (equalized stats) In this mode all fighters are basically equal and the players just have at it.

The number and quality of defense and advanced defense options in the MMA games by THQ are at the very least comparable to what is available in VF. I'm just comparing them in a very relative way.

For example sabakis, inashis, throw escapes etc, are not in UFC, but they have their share of reversals, grapple reversals, submission reversals, dodges, blocking high, low, take down counters etc.

On defense VF gives you a helluva lot of options
On defense UFC gives you a helluva lot of options

Yes those options are apples & oranges (in a way) but the net result is the same. VF's defense and advanced defense is deep enough to allow a player to virtually win with a defensive style. UFC's defense and advanced defense is deep enough to allow a player to virtually win with a defensive style.

I've been objectively comparing them both for a little more than a year now, and I'm leaning in the direction of UFC in terms of which game gives you more defensive options relative to its on type.

Here's what I mean: If you're in a VF match and you simply count your defensive choices in any given match, duck, block, evade, back dash, jump-over, reversal, throw escape etc, you come up with some number. If you do the same thing in UFC come up with some number also, but I'm starting to believe the number is bigger in UFC (I'm not sure yet) but I think so.

The reason is in a UFC MMA fighting game you have:

    Stand up defensive options
Stand up defensive options (in clinch range)
    Clinch defensive options
    grapple defensive options
    on ground (top) defensive options
    on ground (bottom) defensive options

each of these categories have a significant amount of choices.

I know we don't like to talk about the MMA simulators on this site, but the fact that the new UFC 3 has added an arcade mode,
    blurs the difference some what.

Gernburgs, you know I am probably the ultimate VF fanboy, and I have posted many many times that VF is the best fighter on the planet. I now have to qualify that statement, because THQ's mixed martial arts fighter has added arcade mode (equalized stats) Now the game can be played as a simulation or arcade fighter.

I still think the two games are complements of each other, and that basically they appeal to two different markets. But with the addition of arcade mode to UFC 3 the lines are blurring and which fighter has the most advanced total offensive and advanced total defensive, is no longer clear in my mind.

I've always counted DOA a step over Tekken, because Tekken seemed to have more defensive gimmicks rather than things that were systematic for all characters. IMO DOA is closer to VF in that regard. Obviously not as rich, but more consistent than Tekken. But Sadly, painfully, regretfully, reluctantly, I'm starting to think that in terms of the quantity (system wide) of defensive options

    UFC >= VF > SC >= DOA > Tekken

This opinion is still in formative stages, so feel free to flame flame flame. I won't be mad. I'm not saying that any one of these games are better or more fun than the other, I'm simply talking about the number of system-wide (regardless of character) defense and advanced defense options. On the other hand if you're the kind of person who measures a fighting game soley on defensive options available then I am drawing a certain conclusion.

Re: Dead or Alive 5 coming

The camera is all over the place to be honest, especially when stuff start blowing up and there's constants vibration and I can't see shit. The games always had a simple camera and that did the job, but they had to introduce a dynamic camera in DOAD and that was really obnoxious.

Glad you can turn that cinematic camera off and use a camera more in line with the older games.

Side stepping sounds strange, I hear you have to hold RB/R1 and tap up or down? I guess holding [G]+[P]+[K] is DoA's take on super combos.

I really want to try this demo but I don't want to buy Ninja Gaiden. Anyone know if the Xbox code from GameStop is on the receipt? If it is I'd buy the Special Edition and then just return a few days later.

Pretty sure it's part of the games packaging, probably on a card like usual.

POSSIBLE CHARACTER ROSTER FOR DOA 5

I'm not sure if this was posted already, but if it is true, then there are MORE VF characters including a favorite of mine, as she would say, "YAHOO!"

3 VF characters is nice, Pai & Sarah then Akira is a bit strange though would have made sense to even it out and have one more male. Jacky or one of the heavyweights would have fit in nicely [IMG]

I'd be up for some Jeffry vs. Bass matches in DOA.
