Feck, Feck... Feck.... Tsk, Tsk,Tsk. How is it going my friend?

First: the things I was saying about SC5, I'm still saying. Its a bigger game than VF5FS, according to many many players its more fun. Its a deep game (not deeper than VF imo) but a very deep game. Its lobby is considerably better than VF5FS. It keeps stats for off line matches, ranked matches, etc. Its license concept is awesome. The title thing is kewl, its customization is second to none. Its a nice replay feature. And the stategy guide is off the Heezy. I am very happy with the money I've spent. Its at least 4 times the game that VF5FS is. It costs more but its worth it in virtually all respects.

Second: I am a fanboy of VF5FS. Didn't you just get the game? I've got a couple thousand matches in already on VF5FS, what about you? I have a couple thousand matches in on SC5. 100% achievement. What about you?

Third: I plan to buy DOA5. I am willing to bet the cost of the game, that it will be a bigger game than VF5FS, and that most fight game fans will say its more fun.

So my friend, I will always play VF. SC has always been on my playlist and it will stay there. And I was a fan of DOA2 hardcore on the PS2. So I am one of those players that are hyped up about its debut on the PS3.

But I have played VF since VF4. I have earned the right to criticize it. VF has dropped single player features, and 2 player features since VF4Evo. Every release is stripped down in some way. They even took our ring names and PR statements from VF5 vanilla. They added some new things, but they took away features as well. 2 player is so bare bones, that they don't even keep stats on 2 player, there's no rank mode for 2 player etc.

But VF is becoming something of a Paradox.

Its both the Best Fighting game and the Worst Fighting game.

It has the best fighting game engine but the worst set of fighting game features of any fighting game.

So once again, the proof will be in the pudding my friend.
The Soul Calibur community is larger than the Virtua Fighter community (at least by sales). And I'm betting the DOA community (by sales) will be larger than the Virtua Fighter community.

And I think the fact that VF is so stripped down as far as single player and two player modes go does have something to do with its likeability, its fun factor, its fan loyalty longevity.

Yea I'm happy as fug to have VF5FS, but Sega could do a helluva lot more with the game. That's just a fact.

They are not doing DLC at this moment. If anything, she'll probably be one of the last ones announced. So far everyone that has been announced is on that leaked list. I have faith that she'll be in the game from the get go.

It was a downloadable title. You paid 15 dollars for it. The fact that we got the game in the first place with the features we got is more than enough.

Some people are just never satisfied.

Po, i'm not talking about the quality of the games, i'm talking about every time someone posts here about not wanting to pick up a game (as long as it's available on PS3). You dive in and start insinuating that the whole community here is elitist.

You pulled the exact same shit with SC5 even when the majority of us here had nothing bad to say about the game.

You've heard of bread right? I like bread, i'd rather have brown bread though. Does that make me elitist? Pretty sure it just means I prefer brown bread, but I guess that's elitism in that crazy Sony Fanboy brain of yours.

I'm excited to get my hands on this game next month, 2012 has been a sweet year for 3D fighting fans. I just hope this game can live up to the hype, I loved the original DOA and the sequel, but really could never get into the later games and always shrugged them off. Hopefully DOA5 can change that.

I believe everyone on this site is elitist I DON'T believe that. There are a few very visible ppl who are.

There are ppl on this site, that believe if you don't play VF a certain way, then you're not playing it properly.

There are ppl on this site, who criticize other players for wishing that Virtua Fighter had more of a storyline, or wishing that Sega would put back some of the single player features that they took out from EVO.

There are ppl that believe the only valid VF play is offline
2 player mode, with absolutely no frills. and anybody asking, or suggesting anything else, don't know what's going on.

There are a few highly visible ppl on this site that only see VF from the competitive, tournament, get-better-at-it-every-day perspective and that don't leave room for any of the other perspectives. You been on the site as long as I have right? You remember talk like:

We don't need no customization that has nothing to do with fight.

We don't need no fancy cut scenes or story lines, that's not what VF is all about, you want that go play Tekken or SC.

Who needs replay feature in single player mode! Playing against the CPU don't mean nothing, its only human play that matters.

They are entitled to their opinions like we all are. But some of them carry a lot of weight on this site. And it gives the site an elitist kind of a feel. That's because the majority of registered users on this site, don't post much.

VF has:

Single player mode
two player mode
online play

If you prefer single player mode to the other modes you are laughed at on this site (by some ppl, not everyone, but some)

One of my standing hypotheses is that single player features add to the overall fun of a fighting game. Single player features add to the replay, and longevity, the mystique, and the loyalty of a fighting game. Single player is one of things that make some of the other fighting games 'bigger than VF'

I'm betting the DOA5 is going to kill VF in Single Player features! Cutscenes, extra two player modes, That will make the game ultimately more Fun than VF. There will probably be posters too but on this site there are few that say, VF don't need all that, that's not what VF is about, VF has the best fighting engine yada , yada, yada, and that's all that matters. Fuck posters, fuck cut scenes, fuck story lines, fuck customizations, fuck singleplayer and the AI, fuck singleplayer ranks, etc. Its these ppl that I'm calling elitist.


Feck, I'm not doubting that you play., I know you do, and I know you've got skillz, not trying to disrespect. But keep in mind , although I do post a lot of bullshit, I play the game too. Many thousands of matches (most losses LOL). I may not be a master like you, but I've been around this site what about a decade now. and I've been in many post wars, with some of the elites on VFDC and there are some, you can't deny that.

I'm hyped for DOA5, I think its an awesome fighting game. You will find me playing it when it comes out. But not at the expense of VF. My fighting games that I highly recommend:

Virtua Fighter (all versions)
UFC Undisputed 3
Soul Calibur 5
DOA 5
Tekken 6
Fight Night Champion

You will find me playing at least one of these games on any given day, year round

Po, let me help you out a little:

I agree I am one of those people who would not like VF to have cut-scenes etc..

But lets be fair: VF had items before DoA or Tekken did, same for in-depth training and single player modes.

So your point on VF playing catch up with DoA is not entirely correct. In fact, DoA 2-3 had a nice progressive single player mode where you unlocked costumes every play-through, but in all fairness, never encouraged playing in itself beyond unlocking those costumes.

Now, you are right about FS scaling down on past entries but let me make a complain directly to you:

For all you talks and essays on artificial intelligence and the merits of SP, you have not yet gifted us with an in-dept analysis of FS AI or the merits of the SP modes.

Why don't you review the SP modes before knocking them down? can you at least make a comparison between the FS AI and the other games?

In fairness to VF5FS I'm still going through license challenges on normal, I'm a B something, I'm playing special sparring sessions on very hard, and IMO the AI is a thing of beauty! But I'm not done with single player license modes yet, so I'm not really qualified to comment to far on the AI, outside of from what I've seen so far, its far better than any of the AI in any of the VF games that I've played. But its not necessarily better than the best ghosts I've played in Tekken or the AI in legend of souls in SC5 So the Jury is still out. I am just noticing that in single player my ring name is gone, my PR statement gone, Why?
The big box is still there (Y not fill it with my ring name) You go through the trouble of naming the fighters as you create them, but then the name doesn't show up in all the places it should.

I'm not knocking SP down I'm just saying Sega has de-emphasized it (I think as a result of the opinion of the VF elite LOL) Why take away my W/L stats in SP? Why take away my ring name and PR Statement? I'll give you another one. In VF4, VF4Evo is you went to command traning, any command you select, THE AI would perform it for you so you could see what the command would do. Tekken's Dojo command list has this feature, SC5's Dojo command list has this feature. VF4, VF4Evo had this feature, but starting in VF5 the only show you certain special moves per character. Why take that out?

I like the license mode, its like a formalized set of Quest Orders. I like the special sparring sessions, almost replaces underground tournaments from VF4Evo,( almost replaces...) But what happened to my single player rank?
For guys like you, you say who gives a fug about single player rank? For guys like me, its a big deal, Especially when I'm playin my girl, my brothers, my son, his friends etc in two player mode.

Matt its okay if you are elite. The Elite is a valid scenario. I'm just sayin you gotta remember the rest of us, the little guys. Or realize that some of your positions may not be shared by casual players, or new players. I just think they're so few of us the site should welcome everyone.

Once upon a time there was no online play And in many many respects VF was a much better game overall.

Po, I agree with you that Sega should have the old AI sparring mode back, and also the ghost download thingy.

Im no elitist. But IMO resource would be better spent on the AI training mode that cuscenes,

Unless the cuscenes really added something meaningful.

Oh how I miss the Quest mode from VF4: EVO. The best AI ever put in a fighting game. It was through this that helped me get better at the game since the AI was properly modeled after real players. The higher up in rank you got, the harder they became. Also, if you did something stupid, I'd say about 99.9% of the time, you were getting punished.

Another mode I'd like to see return is the Watch mode. I remember earlier VF's had that mode where you'd see two AI duke it out. I know DOA has put it in their recent games.

Also, I would love to see a story mode in Virtua Fighter. We all know that it has a story, but can anyone adequately explain what's going on and why this tournament is being held in the first place?

I think this is the first time that all 4 major 3D fighting game series released a new game in the same year.

January - Soul Calibur 5
June - Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
September - Dead or Alive 5 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2

This year was definitely one of the best years for 3D fighters!

The cutscenes do add something meaningful:

Accessibility.

Accessibility isn't limited to gameplay, it's also about aesthetic. Aesthetic is of high importance.

It's pretty much the only thing the VF series needs now. AM2 emphasised FS' gameplay acessibility without sacrificing depth, they've got more single player modes, added more flash, and built a tolerable online mode. Filling the gaps between the prologue stories will humanise it more, even if they fuck it up.

BTW, gamers never being satisfied is always a GOOD thing.

Indeed. Only way it could get better is if Square-Enix made a new Tobal game. I loved that shortlived series.
