Oh, wow. I missed the Pai announcement, but cool.

I went ahead and preordered the damn' thing. I was planning on getting Tag 2, but when I realised that DoA5 was coming out so soon, I made a decision to focus my dwindling money on the one I'll probably play for a longer time.

Went ahead and preordered it; the art book alone is worth the collector's edition's additional cost, as far as I'm concerned.

I have to admit... while the SummerJam build really turned me off of DoA5... For whatever reason, the latest videos of DoA5 look good to me and I'm really considering getting the game again.

The physics and flow look better to me in the videos they've been showing the past week or so... Don't know if that's what is really happening, but the game just looked really weird to me from the SummerJam videos.

 

we've been told that all the build used for tournaments were 2-3 months behind from the live build. At this point Im assuming all the video that come out are the final build

 

Yeah it was pretty clear they are totally different builds, game looks way better now. The first builds were horrendous

 

Pai is in DoA now? That's incredible, but then it always felt kinda like a stripped down homage to VF. Part 3 on Xbox still looks remarkable. Thought the lady with the snake style was very cool, reminded me of the classic 'Snake in the Monkey's Shadow' film.

 

It makes for a great introduction to VF, I've found.

I like what Virtua Pai said, that Pai "is Dead or Alive!" It's really not much of a stretch to say that her play style was the basis for DoA.

 

After practicing again with akira in fs, I had a chance to play with him again when a mr.wah came up for a visit. Here's what I noticed from that build

-g!k knee is definitely alot easier to do even on a pad.
-using 33p to launch and can't really juggle with 6k,p into 3g+k,p,p+k. he recovers slowly from the from 6k,p
-because the dashing and side stepping is different, you might as well forget about using any metagame you learned from vf5fs.
-side step 22/88p (old side step p+k from vanilla) is there and it hurts.
-probably because its just this build but he doesn't seem to have any advantage from guard breaks like 6p+k or throws.
-3P+K is still godlike.
-probably wasn't added in this build but his teirou kanpo is missing.

There is no good reason for him to have all the advantage, guard breaks, and high damage output he does in VF5:Akira Jacky Taka Brad Showdown. They are different games, with different systems, and it would be disappointing if both games had to deal with an easy to use, overly advantaged Akira incarnation.
