I've heard either reinstalling or restarting your system after install fixes that.

    Been playing as Sarah.

Pai and Sarah have the fastest stepping in the game apparently. If you slide the inputs between 4 and 1 like 414141 they will backdash away really quickly while guarding. For the rest of the cast doing 44 then repeated QCB's seems like the fastest option.

Is it me or is the throw system pretty silly? Untechable throws can either be 7, 10 or 12 frames so fuzzy guard won't be very effective against them. They have more range on this game than in any other fighter I've ever played. They go like half of the screen. Seems like any disadvantage is just 50/50 between attack or untechable throw. They also seem to be the best punishers?

Edit : Played a bit online. Played about 25 games, about 3 of them were bad. Everything else seemed fine. The most lag is on the character select screen apparently : /.

PS3 is the lead console for this game, so there won't be anything better on the 360 version other than the amount of people online.

It can be the lead console and still not be as good as other versions. Not sure what your point is. The 360 version doesn't stutter like the PS3 version, been playing both since Monday.

After spending more time with it, shedding the bias, and using tech(thanks DOAWorld!) i can say, saying this game is VF Lite for over the years was a dumb error. If you had to make the comparisons, just had to, the game is closer to Tekken than VF. I know it's, it's own game and I'm glad that what the series is know, gameplay wise has been toned down, but I'm not sure I'll playing it past shits-n-giggles. It's cool and the matches probably won't take as long as TTT2, but yeah....

GT, how did you unlock Pai?

You unlock Pai by getting 100 titles.

So after spending some time with Pai I've noticed that in this game you don't seem to really get a bunch of frame advantage on hit. Also 2P really isn't quite as great either, you don't really get any meaningful frame adv on hit, it looks like none to me on normal hit, you're just even.

Right now I've basically broken this game's movelist into two categories. There are the moves you use outside of critical stuns, and then there are moves you use in critical stuns. It seems like during those stuns is the only time you have meaningful enough frame advantage to do any bigger moves. It's almost as if they decided to make frame advantage easier to figure out by adding the stun system instead of VF style hidden frame advantage stuff.

Getting good at these stuns will work wonders for my stagger recovery in VF, at least that's one good thing this game will do for me.

2P stuns for a bit on CH. The frame data is odd though. A Basic P from Sarah grants less frame advantage on CH than it does on Guard. It's like +1 on Guard, 0 on NH, 0 on CH.

What's funny to me is Sarah range specific advantage on 4K is in DOA : D. You can only get +5 though.

I thought I had made up my mind but reading everyone's reviews , I'm still on the fence.

Okay, Femto so DOA in your opinion is not a VF lite is that right? And you're saying if anything its closer to Tekken than it is to VF correct? But to be totally accurate you're suggesting that DOA is its own game right?

I have found SC to be deep in its own right (easy to play, takes real skill to master)
I have found Tekken to be deep in its own right (easy to play, takes real skill to master)

Would this apply also to DOA 5? Is there really a complete deep fighting system there? One that is not VF, Not Tekken, and Not SC? or is it a watered down combination of these games?

Although I have great respect for Tekken and its awesome players, IMO VF reigns in this genre of fighting game. After looking at lots of Youtube on DOA5 and reading some of these posts, I'm starting to wonder if DOA 5 is just a entry level fighting game, that might not be as deep as a Tekken or Soul Calibur.

From some of the videos I've seen it looks like there's an awful lot of floating going on. I thought I saw a few 10 to 15 hit combos :(

Maybe I should buy it, so my 3D fighting library will be completeo_O

I can see how was all over the place and that's because Im really picky about my 3D fighters so when I was givin this a crack I was like "eww..." because of the supposed similarities to VF. The only time I played people that knew what they were doing was in DOA2U and at the time it felt like VF lite with no side-step.

Now that I'm wiser and not a complete dipshit, I see this game is nothing like VF except in G-Cancel, String Delays and button layout. I feel the sum of its parts are similarities to VF and Tekken and it's own thing like the Critical Hits, Holds and stage interaction. I hate to compare it to other games, and mentioned you should look at it as DOA, but in doing so you will see the similarities and whether that rubs you the good way, bad way or neither that's up to you to decide.

The Holds have been toned big time in this, which is a plus for the series!

to be honest, even from my n00b point of view, DOA is like nothing out there. Not like VF. Not like Tekken. nothing. I think people try to approach DOA like they do other games and get mad/dissappointed and blame it on the game system being 'wrong'.

Now don't get me wrong, there was plenty that was bad with DOA 4 at least, definitely. Bu t DOA 5 has fixed all of that, from what I've seen and heard. No more spamming holds for 40 percent damage with no recovery time making it safe on whiff. No more random hazards like dinosaurs running in between you randomly in the middle of a match from off screen (hazards are shown from tweaked camera angles during battles, and an active hazards like the tigers of the circus stage, can only be 'activated' by smashing your opponent into a button). All the stupid stuff I seemed to hate DOA 4 for are gone.

That being said its still a DOA game. It's a game all about yomi, it seems. You don't get juggles from random uppercuts to stage carry wall combos for 65%. While there's infinitely more guaranteed damage than DOA 4 due to the variety of new stuns available, most of the high damage combos involve outsmarting your opponent's only option of holding while they are in hitstun. That's what I've learned playing it so far, and if you don't like that, then this game won't change your mind.

I really like the game though, and plan to go in hard on it. It's beautiful, the character models are gorgeous, the backgrounds are cool, the character types are all different and fun, and the gameplay is solid. Net play has been iffy for me, I've played better, and I've played worse. I can deal with it. I have to say the only way you won't like DOA5 is if you don't like DOA, period (which is no different than judging any other good game from its series)

Having spent only a day on it, I'm surprisingly flowing well with Akira and much less surprisingly with Hayate, but I definitely want to get a good momentum with Ayane. I think that with enough practise, she'll be my main in this one, as before in DOA2.

+1 on block but even on hit? It's pretty odd and nonsense.
