Having a lot of fun with this game.

    Weird Stuff I've learned :
Sarah's punch that leaves her backturned (44P) executes in 9 frames.
Sarah's 9K can't be reverse, only parried. If parried you can use her flip to get away.
2P with the VF characters are real low attacks and are the fastest lows in the game. (12f)
    DOA characters 2P's are mostly 14 frames+.

    Akira can do 46P > K+G G! > 2P > 3K+G, P, 466P+K in open stance.
    And 46P > K+G G! > 2P > 466P+K in closed stance.

    Feels good man...

EDIT:^ Seems ok, they are like DMPK and good against chains. There are no half circulars in this game. Moves either track or they don't. So no need to watch stance for evasion.

I'm playing on PSN, I ran out of Xbox Live and don't feel like buying more yet (I was running on free Xbox live cards I won from Gamestop tourneys :D ).

@ Femto : I'm 90% sure stepping is "digital" like VF. Instead of "analog" like Tekken.

Yeah, but it's the sam system Tekken uses meaning attack and string specific, not attack type specific.

Very effective. I was playing Sorwah last night and he was evading a lot of my attacks. If you turn the game data on, it will tell you if your opponents moves have tracking or not so you should be able to determine what you can and can't step.

Only difference is that I've noticed is that there are only full tracking moves and not half tracking like VF has. If a move tracks, it will track anywhere. For example, in FS, Akira's 4PP has to be evaded in a certain direction. In DOA5, it fully tracks.

Aayane's 2P is also 12f. Pai's standing P is 9 frames, 6P is 11, and 2P is 12. That's really fast even for DOA. Most folks have 12 frame or 15 frame mids.

    NOT HAPPY WITH NETCODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    IT'S WORSE THAN DOA4 IMO!

I love the game man, but damn the netcode is terrible and makes playing online very frustrating. Even with my 20MB / 5MB connection it felt like I was playing in quick sand. I played about 6 games before I just turned off my Xbox. I'll try again tonight when more players are on.

I finally broke down and got the game. I've been playin now about 14 hrs. While it is not always practical to compare 3D fighting games. There are features that are/should be common to all fighting games that we can compare. And there are features that if you are wise you never compare. I'll start first with the aspects we can compare.

DOA5's Single player does not disappoint:

It has arcade mode 8 fights different fighters each time
    It has Tag mode
    It has Time Trial Mode
    It has Survival Mode
It has CPU vs CPU mode
It has a full replay system that let you even record fights between you and the CPU. The replay system gives you complete 3D camera control and the ability to take freeze frame and take snap shots.
It allows you to listen to dialog in either (Japanese or English)
It has an awesome Training mode
It has Spectator mode that allows you to watch, upload, replay, or view snaphots of fights.
It has limited customization( actually the worse customization compared to VF5S,SC5, and Tekken 6)
It tracks and reports a full complement of statistics far better than (VF5FS, TEKKEN6, and SC5) The statistics kept in DOA5 are only rivaled by statistics kept in UFC3 Undisputed and FNC.
There are over 540 titles that can be earned by performing various types of feats.
The fighter settings can be set from rookie to virtually unbeatable, so you can ramp up or ramp down depending on your mood for the day.
IT has a story mode that is better than SC5 , VF5FS but not a good as Tekken 6.
Story mode includes a nice mini tutorial
    It has Awsome Sound track/effects
It allows someone to challenge you directly from online you can leave this feature on decline or accept.

It allows you to turn off hit special effects (Tekken6, SC5 please look and learn from DOA5. Allow us to turn off the lighting and fireballs if we don't want to see them!)

    DOA5's 2 Player mode(versus mode)

Statistics are kept for what goes on in 2 player mode although their are no portable profiles,

    It has TAG mode
Titles can be earned in 2 player mode
Replays Can be saved in 2 player mode
Unfortunately their are no user ring names (Most modern fighter's have ring names in 2 player mode)
The two players can be CPU vs CPU
Player 1 and Player 2 can take advantage of Customization (Unlike Tekken 6!)
    Player 2 selects the stages

    DOA5's Online mode

I have no idea, haven't played online, prolly won't play online any time soon

    DOA's Stages/Presentation

It has multilayer/ stages breakable windows, walls, floors, furniture etc. While the stages are goregous, well developed, They are not as exquisite as the stage of soul Calibur 5, they are more complex and better graphically than Tekken 6's multistage approach. However, imo They are not as clean and detailed as VF5FS. While they definitely are more exciting, have a lot more going on, they are not as crisp as VF5FS or SC5's. But make no mistake about it they are gorgeous. The Character models lean in the direction of anime (afaic) . If you display the character models right next to VF5FS or SC5 you will see that VF5FS and SC5 are overall more fine detailed. But you would have to have them all up simultaneously. I'm lucky enough to have such a setup, so I did. But to be sure. The character models are top shelf and in most cases its just a matter of preference whether you like SC5 vs VF5FS vs DOA5. But from a technical point of view because SC5 has the most customization you would think it would have the worst refinement of characters but this is not the case. DOA5 has less customization than VF5FS and SC5 and it is the least refined (From MY POV). But again yall, the models still are awesome. But we're comparing them to absolute best there is.

    Fighting Engine

Here is an area where it is not wise to compare fighting games. It may be wise to compare VF5FS with VF5 or DOA 5 with DOA 4 but never cross games. DOA 5 has deep game play mechanics it is easy to play and hard to master. The high, mid, and low holds, coupled with the critical stun holds, in addition to a kind-a 8-way-run side step, and the throw system, combined with hefty movelists (sometimes over 100) per fighter add to that multistage partially destructable environments and that gives each player more than a few options to deal with. Make no mistake DOA 5 is the real mc coy, as much as Tekken or SC or VF.

As a long time Fight Game Fan

I have many many many 1000's of fights and 1000's of hours in the 3D fighting genre.
Each of the fighting games I play require a different skill set and leave me with a different feeling. I also have mad respect for the top players in all of the 3D fighters, each one really does require serious skill. But to be fair I am biased towards Virtua Fighter series and the UFC fighting series when my goal is to my put my raw fighting game skills up against an opponents. Here's why:

Some fighting games make you feel more in control over your destiny. Some fighting games make you feel more in control over your opponent's destiny. Here's what I mean, some fighting games offense focused the advantage goes to the agressor, he who strikes first , and fastest is favored in the engine. Some fighting games though give you more control over your own destiny. You have lots of options on defense not matter what the situation. You've got a defensive answer for anything the opponent can throw at you.
But you loos this sense of control when you are dealing with fighting games that have unblockable attacks, one hit kills, rave-turn-the-match-around-unstoppable attacks etc.

So when I want to play matches where I can predict the environment, I have complete control over my defense, and I can look at my opponent's life bar and determine, that as long as I play solid defense there's nothing that he can do to comeback from the dead then I go with VF or UFC. Those two fighters IMO offer me the most options on defense. Since I'm the kind of fighter that prefers to have maximum control over my destiny as opposed to having maximum control over my opponent's destiny then I end up favoring Virtua Fighter over something like DOA 5 or Tekken.

I'm posting this because all day yesterday and through the night almost everyone on my friends list could see that I was playing DOA and message after message asked me what did I think, and which one was the best.

As a fighting game fan IMO the fighting game that gives you the most ways to win the match and the most ways to defend the match is the 'best game'.

For example in UFC I can knock you out, I can tap you out, I can ground and pound you so bad that the ref steps in, or I can avoid your stand up attack by taking the fight to the ground, or evade your ground attack by keeping you in a muay thai clinch etc. I can win in many ways and I can defend in many ways.

In comparison to all of the other 3D fighters out there, IMO Virtua Fighter gives you the most defensive options which implicity gives you the most offensive options (i.e. offense as a result of defense)

DOA 5 is a much bigger game than VF5FS DOA 5 has far far more replay value, more single player and two player modes than VF5FS. And I've had far more fun playing DOA 5 on the first day than I had playing VF5FS on the first day.. I can honestly recommend this game to any 3D fight game fan. Its worth the money and the effort. The guest appearances by Akira, Sarah, and Pai make it a must have for fans of VF. But make no mistake about it boys and girls. If its all about getting down to the real nitty gritty, no nonsense, no tricks, no special powers. Me against you, Then Virtua Fighter 5 Final Show Down is the real deal no holds barred.

I focused on Single Player and Two Player the most because Fighting Games are a lot like Sex. First its all about what you can do by yourself. Second its what you can do with some one else in the room with you. And third its about what you can do over the Internet :)

Agreed. Team Ninja needs to fix the netcode. I had problems holding attacks and even doing wake up attacks.

That's weird to me, because on PSN there is almost no button delay when I play. The bad connections are just extremely choppy.

But I'm just doing 1 on 1 stuff on the nearby setting.

Damn.... Ill think i pass.. I played all DOA's faithfully but i don't care all as much for fighting games as much as i did including VF5FS..Im getting old as shit guess. I played Tekken up till 6 faithfully but shit gets redundant... I watched a few videos and once the game is broken in it will be the same shit happening all over again. With all due respect im expecting to hear certain people say the love the game and praise which is cool. one day ill play it myself cause its it DOA but its like the User-friendly = More money idea dampered my feelings for gaming as a whole. Do anybody have any first week videos i can watch just to see what you cats are up to?

If Team Ninja decides to make a 2nd patch, here's what i would like to see:

    -Improved online
    -Enable/Disable voice chat
    -Connection Status shown
-Be given choice to fight opponent rather than be forced to.
-Allow/Disallow option to play as Alpha 152 for whenever players had unlocked her.

-Custom soundtrack option (PS3 only since 360 has this option already)

That's all i can think of at this moment, post ur ideas.

Update: I heard somewhere there will be a 2nd patch.

Master PO why are you still talking about Tekken 6? The comparisons are now SC5, VF5:FS, TTT2, and DOA5.

So I fell in love with the online lobby music and was determined to find out the name of it and who made it. Boy was I shocked to find out that it came from within the DOA community and was created by Chosen1. For those who don't know, Chosen1 is one of the top players from within the DOA community and is also a up and coming rapper.

Whether you like him, his music or not I think it's pretty bad ass that Team Ninja gave someone who is passionate about their game a chance to shine. I don't know about you guys, but the song is suppose to be on iTunes (having a hard time finding it at the moment :( ) and I plan to purchase it to show my support for his achievement. Plus I really dig the track that much anyway.

It sort of had the same wow effect on me like the first time I heard SF3: Third Strike's character select music. It's not so much that it was hip hop, but more so that it was just soooooo different from the normal cheesy music that normally in a game.

Anyway, for those who don't have the game check out the song below.

UPDATE: Chosen1 said it should be on iTunes, Google play, etc in a few days.
