Smh!! Like said.. The ticks from each frame of animation must have there own values.. Bottom line.

All this stuff is highly confusing to me and rattling my brain reading everyone's personal analysis or opinion on the matter! :( This is the first fighter where a -17 actually means -15. I don't even think that exist in Street Fighter. Heck I bet Tournament Fighters on Super Nintendo has a more reliable frame system.

That makes sense. Kind of weird for it to be this way, but hey, I'll take it lol.

    Edit:
    They've added a framerate comparison:

    Cutscene

    Gameplay

Seems like the X360 is superior here as well. Much less screen tearing during gameplay. At least gameplay is always 60fps for both.
During cutscenes the X360 has less tearing too, but, it drops frames while the PS3 doesn't.

Man, I'm glad you posted this. I figured I must have been doing something wrong, but the VF characters feel like instant bottom tier in this game. Sarah's free-walk movement is ridiculously slow. Playing against a ninja is pointless as they can position you anywhere in the ring they want with all the teleporting nonsense added to their already insane walking speed.

And this is just the walking speed I'm talking about. Forget all the other nonsense this game throws at you. Played a Kasumi player yesterday, kept doing PPP variation combos on me. Even when I successfully blocked, I had no follow up, as anything I did would get beat out by more PPP combo. And on the off chance I was lucky enough to start attacking, I'd get one, maybe 2 hits, then countered.

Ugh, it's so frustrating. I know this game isn't VF, so I don't expect to use Sarah in DOA the same way I use her in VF. But, I just can't find the logic in the fighting system here.

I'm sure others will come along and tell me to stop bitching and learn the game, but I can't find the logic that I'm supposed to learn. However, it is a fun game, I just don't see myself leaving VF for it.

I'd feel a little ill if any of us were to leave VF for another 3D fighter.
There'll always be that inner voice that reminds us as we lament, "It's just not Virtua Fighter."

Nobody who plays VF seriously can leave it for another fighter. It just dosen't work. You'll end up coming back every time.

Look yall, the game is fun. I had a blast playing it for the first week! DOA5 is DOA5 not VF or Tekken. My problem is I couldn't find a fighter I could Identify with :(

Shaolin Kung Fu is my thing. So me and Lei Fei have a very unnatural relationship;)
I can also make do with Lei WuLong's Five animal Kung Fu. But I just couldn't make peace with any of the DOA characters. I gave Genfu and Eliot a try first, and then Rig. They just didn't feel me. And I couldn't get into the female characters because the whole 'lastmonk' and female thing doesn't jibe:rolleyes:

So I'll probably play this game on holidays, big family gatherings, etc, but can't put it on my main fighter list because non of the fighting styles in the game seem to fit.

Speaking of Fighting Styles Ahem.... maybe its just me, BUT! The fighting style animations in DOA5 don't look as authentic as they do in Tekken. For example DOA's drunken Master does not look as Jackie Chanish as Lei WuLong's from Tekken. The Capoiera moves in DOA don't look as authentic as Eddie Gordos in Tekken. Rig's Tai kwan do animations don't look as genuine/cliche as Baek's or compare Wang Jinrei to Genfu and Eliot.

although DOA's graphics are gorgeous, the animations are shall we say unique! For example Gen Fu's low leg sweep WTF? where did they get the animation from?

Does anybody know, did they even use motion capture for DOA5?

the only good punish I have at all is low jab aka 2P aside from that I don't trust any other move for direct punishment period. I assume people will just spam high strikes and I get quite a few stuns that way to start my offense. Ayane and Kasumi etc seem to be able to get their craziness off on my Pai like it is nothing unless I keep them in stun constantly and I don't do that well enough because they will often counter my stuff every so often. At least the free BT 9KK is a good option to keep them offbalance in that area since they don't know how to react to it at all.

I also find the stuff here on punishing useful and will attempt to use them later to see if they really work because I feel there has to be someway to beat the random spam I see in DOA as often as I see it. I suck at reversals regardless of whether it is VF or DOA so I don't depend on it unless I have to and I know what type of hold I need to use. I can forget about evasion too it just isn't as effective as it is in VF making my lack of defensive ability that much more obvious. It is still early and I am figuring this stuff out more and more as I go along I might be decent someday if I stick with this game long enough but for now I am basically a punching bag for ninjas at this point unless I use the reach my main Eliot has to counter it. It is nice to know I am not the only one here dealing with the same issues so I don't feel like a complete idiot all by myself here

I kind of understand how you feel. I'm a DOA player myself, although, I played Pai since VF5FS came out, and I was thinking of playing her in DOA5 as well, but, for some reason I couldn't get the system with Pai either xD So I decided to stick to my old DOA characters.

Kasumi is annoying, yes.. Thing is, instead of trying to block and punish a la VF, you should try holding the punches sometimes. A lot of times they do PPP, then do a mid, then PPP again and so on. Look at the patterns, and start holding what they're doing. If you're not good at that, try and see when the highs are coming and, and simply use a low move. Also, don't try to attack too much if your opponent is spamming holds. Grab them instead. If you grab them in a hold they get 150% damage.

I love it when they use holds on me I learned from day 1 just how effective throws are against people that abuse holds. I learned that lesson playing earlier versions of DOA. I try to bait them on purpose but alot of people how play DOA just keep on attacking without even caring so I can't condition them easily. When I use my main it is so much easier especially when I can keep them in stuns longer and I can actually wiff punish things from beyond the effective range of the enemy most of the time and they can't hit with random spam in response as well as they want. That makes my attempts to rush them down that much easier for me overall because they have to think about their next move instead of just throwing something out because they can. I will keep trying for the time being I never expected the transition to be easy so it is okay.

I wish more people were playing VF though oh well hopefully this current phase will pass and people will come back to VF but it is still too early for that but at least I found a decent substitute for VF when things are quiet. It isn't very good from my point of view but it is something to pass the time for now

Yea, I'm slowly finding that grabs are the way to go in this game. But, the VF inside of feels so......dirty.....grabbing all the time. Yet, with Sarah's low damage in this game, I can get equal, if not more, damage from a grab than I can from her combos.

I'll have to play with this system a bit, gonna take some getting used to as this is the first DOA that I'm attempting to take "seriously". It's still fun though, I want to stress that. Despite the bitching, it's still fun to knock about and throw your opponent through the various debris in a stage.

Unfortunately, a lot of the people playing FS were Tekken players in a VF phase.

after playing a little w Akira, trying to get a lot of damage from crazy combos like Knee P Yoho P DLC, and only seeing about 1/4 of the bar gone, I went back to playing this game how I have in the past: stun w Bayman, bait a Hold & High Counter Backbreaker, massive damage.

    @1:27

speaking of weird training mode stuff, why the fuck is every move not included in command training? If you didn't take time to look at the command list for Akira, you might not even know that you can do the GBOD in this game. Or that Tina has ground throws... etc

It's always been like that in DOA. Every character has these 'secret' moves.

GBOD and GB is useless in this game. I have seen the CPU start the combo, but never finish it. I've been through the move list with everyone except Alpha-152 and it never dawned on me that GBOD wasn't in there. lol

What do you mean "back-turned 9KK"? Can Pai do a swallow-kick while her back is turned. That will be some consolation for losing regular back-turned [K].

I'm not a great DOA player, but I do about as well in it with Pai as I do with Lei Fang (my primary DOA character).

My biggest adjustment is trying to play with that cursed 360 D-pad. I can't enter any direction consistently enough for my satisfaction. Also Team Ninja changed the controller setting so that I can not have the second guard button on the controller.

Reading some of you posts I can help but to think that some of you are still in VF mode and are playing too fast. DOA is slower than VF, A LOT SLOWER. It's not about setting up combos for big damage, its about counters and stun-whoring. If you slow-down a bit, and use slow pokes to keep your opponent in stun you put pressure on your opponent to counter to end the stun; but if you mix up your attacks they can't guess correctly. Then you can punish with throws or even a launcher.

Oh yeah, not to keep quoting the same dude but....

    Dude's just right.

I always liken it to having a fling. It's fun for a little while. The mistress is so shiny and new. But eventually you realize that like your wife better; that's why you married her in the first place.

Pretty sure she still has her back turned [K]. Let's say you are on 1P side and you use [4] [4] [P] to turn around. The command for back turned [K] would be [4] [K]. Tap the joystick in the direction she is facing plus [K].

    Edit:

I was against using grapplers this time around, but in DOA4 I was able to get really far with Bass. This time though I think I'm gonna give Bayman a shot mainly because of his mobility and Offensive Holds. Time to practice those combo throws.

I am sorry the free 9KK I get on people after Pai's F,B throw leaving them BT. It is one of the few things that I can get on DOA players once I land the throw. It still has the same basic mechanic as it did in VF

I also noticed the difference in speed that is why i won't play her too much in DOA. I know how to win with Pai in DOA after some experimentation and I don't like playing her that way. That is why I will stick to my mains Eliot and Gen Fu more. I can clutch out wins DOA style with her even against ninjas I just hate playing her that way and it screws up my VF pai game if I get too used to playing in that style. I know all about holding people in stun mode and baiting holds so I can punish them with throws etc. It works better when I do it with a DOA character though.

I understand what you are saying
