If you were a man, you'd be playing VF.

I try every time a patch comes out. Get bored after a week.

Oh wow. Isn't there a thread on your forum where people are debating whether TN should fix a glitch that breaks the game system, because the glitch makes it more fun to play?

If that is fun, then no wonder you get bored after a week of VF.

I personally could care less if the glitch stays or not, it won't affect my character and how he's played.

You guys said I should play VF. I have played VF, and I do on occasion. I merely was telling you that the system, characters, stages, plus the pretty bad UI design just bore me after a week. I have enjoyed the series since the first one though I never played the third. I simply just can't care to stick with the game competitively after a week, something doesn't gel, but I keep trying after each new version they release.

Lol at people who dislike VF hanging around for no reason, is there really that few places to discuss DoA these days?

Who said I dislike it? I even said I still play it from time to time. I just get bored with it very easily. One of my friends I've met at a tournament posts here frequently. He's a cool guy that Rodnutz guy. You guys brought it up, not me.

    Let's get the facts straight:
    1) I never said I disliked Virtua Fighter.
    2) You guys, in a DOA thread, were commenting about how you felt the game was played and what the tiers were. I, with my knowledge of DOA, decided to come in here and help explain that those thoughts are unfounded.
    3) You guys proceeded to tell me that I should just play Virtua Fighter instead.

So where, please tell, did I say that I dislike VF?

You guys? ...making it sound like there's a divide between the DoA and VF players here :(

I don't think I ever discussed the DoA5 tiers here, nor did I tell you to stick to VF.

You only post in the DoA threads here and going on your last few comments in this thread I just assumed you didn't actually like VF and only came here to talk DoA because there's barely anywhere else left.

Anyway I'm not attacking you, you're free to discuss DoA and ignore VF wherever/whenever you want.

I posted in the Wolf threads when VF5FS first came out. Got confused by some terminology, was helped by some members of the community, very nice folks though I didn't meet everyone. Then I stopped playing the game except at events when they needed a man to help fill out the bracket.

But yes, I primarily come here from time to time to check out the doa thread to see if there are any players who have misinformation of the game or who would like to learn it. I do the same on SRK and 8WR as well... when SRK works that is.

Can you please take it down a notch man because he was just kidding. I can vouch for Matt (Sorwah) that he does like VF and does play it from time to time. He has even asked me to play before, but unfortunately I was doing some offline session with a friend and I couldn't.

I met him at Summer Jam in Philly and I can honestly say he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I bet the guy would give you the shirt off his back or the last $5 bucks in his wallet.

While at SJ I wanted to learn DOA5 and he actually took time out of his day to sit down with me and teach as much as he could within the little free time I could spend with the game. Trust me if there is anyone out there who wants DOA to be a well balanced fighter it's Matt. He has submitted numerous bugs, feedback, etc to TN to fix the game so that it's enjoyable for everyone.

While I don't play DOA5 as much as I thought I would I don't hate the game. When the patch comes out for Xbox 360 I know I'll give it another test run. And anyone who actually bought it should do the same.

While the majority of the people here (myself included) think VF is the best thing since sliced bread. Let's not misunderstand a sarcastic joke and attack good people.

    Sadly, both have happened :(.

Was at E3 one time, the one before VF5 hit arcades. I was there as a guest from DOACentral. Had some fun beating people in VF5 and got my first test gig from it. Anyways, while entering my hotel's lobby someone noticed my HMD Viewtiful Joe shirt and asked where I got it. He wondered if they were giving them out, which sadly they weren't. Seeing that I was outgrowing the shirt (you've seen me Rodney, I did a lot of growing lol) I just took it off and gave it to him. He was actually happy to get it lol.

The other happened I think at the end of that Summer Jam we met or the Winter Brawl before it. One of the doa players I knew didn't have any cash and needed a cab to the airport. Gave him the last of my money ($20) in my wallet so he could make his flight.

I bought DOA5 brand new the day it came out. I also bought some of the DLC, however I didn't have much time to play.

I check FSD on a daily basis, and I check Sorwah (FSD) YT videos and other DOA5 videos on a daily basis.

I may not be an expert DOA player but I am making an effort to learn the game.

Having said that, when I check FSD, I cannot help feeling a bit concerned about the game. Let me explain:

These are the kind of threads I expect to find on VFDC:

    VF5:FS Tutorial Videos
    Defense with GT
    Dojo drills/challenges
Guard Jail after successful Evade Dash Cancel Guard

    Ok, you get the idea

these are the threads I find on FSD:

    Dead or Alive 5 - Known Bugs/Glitches
SRK: Community Matters – Or Why A Game Is Legitimate Only If There Are People Playing It
Problems that the Patch DOESN'T Address
    The lack-of-stagger-escape glitch poll
    Yes or No to Patch?

So you see, even for somebody who likes DOA5, got the game and want to improve, there is the suspicion that the DOA community itself is not sure about its game. Do they want the game to be balanced? is it more fun to have it broken? is the gameplay good? it is buggy? are there problems with the game that are beyond patching?

As you can see, VF may be boring (for you) but the people who play VF at least have decided that the game is good as it is and does not require a patch/fundamental problems with the game system that cast suspicion upon the legitimacy of the game itself. It would be worth you clearing up these problems with your game (and forum).

Believe me when I say that I'm aware of it, and there have been some movements forward with it. I can't force the community to do anything however. It's made up of many different people and each with their own ideas. One of the issues the community has is a difference in when a member has joined the community. The game has changed drastically over the years to the point that there are people in the community blinded by wanting an old feature returned or an inherent design in the game to be altered to the point of non-existence.

Not saying that it can't be done, just saying that it's been a work in progress for years. I'm aware that someone coming into the community for the first time can get that negative appearance. However, they are not aware of the progress the community has made. So it's slowly being changed, but it's just sad that it's nothing that can be changed with the flip of the switch.

  13. I really do like the argument you're making and the points you present. However, there is one enormous flaw to your logic:

VF5 is 6 years old; DoA5 is 4 months old

And please don't open the door to "FS came out in 2012," because that is only the Turbo edition of the original SF2.

Now, with that addressed, I would hope that there aren't discussions and concerns regarding the mechanics of a game on its 6th year of being played. Right? DoA5 is obviously a new game, and apparently had many drastic changes to the game system (I say "apparently" because I never played DoA4) and when there are changes to an old formula, discrepencies are revealed, and unforseen minor details that held the balance together are gone. We now have online communities allowing people around the world to voice their opinions (aka: whining) which, by trial and error, is addressed via patches. Will one patch remedy an entire world's whin... er... opinions? FUCK NO. I guess the patch for VF5 was perfect, right? Oh wait... there wasn't one... because it's a 6 year old game... and patches didn't exist when it came out.

It doesn't matter who you are, what the community is, or what the game is... when long time familiarity changes, there WILL be people bitching about it. When VF 6 comes out (which I look foward to) it will be one of two things:

    1. The exact same game with new graphics, which will incite complaints that it's just the same game
    2. An attempt at moving the game foward with new mechanics, which will incite complaints about glitches, bugs, and balance. A patch will be released to address the issues, which will incite complaints about the patch's glitches, bugs, and balance.

Nonsense! VF6 will probably be on arcades for a long time, with revisions and rebalancings, and then, to consoles, where the only bugs left will be on new console features.

Reminds me, which VF5 patch/version/revision was it that totally changed the throw break system and such? I remember people getting hot about the game system changes and character balance they were trying to do so they could bring in a newer beginner crowd.

Final Showdown changed the throw system. VF5 and VF5R still had the multiple throw break system and also diagonal throws.

Final Showdown changed more from the original VF5, more than DOA 4-> DOA5.

All the changes are listed on this very site .

FS has been getting complaints, because of the changes, some valid, some not, some whatever.

    Stay free.

P.S. This was one of the dumbest posts I've seen on this site, and that takes A LOT, considering all the dumb stuff being posted since Final Showdown, released.

Never seen that FSD forum before, fascinating read, thanks (@Matt)

I feel for them really. I'd rather see DoA take off more than Tekken frankly. Part 3 pretty much made me buy an Xbox. Seems though these days we're all pretty much at the mercy of these companies, just suddenly and randomly turning the games we love into a dog's breakfast, and the ensuing forum tears that causes.

New patch is out. Tag has been revised (some would say Fixed) for those who want guaranteed combos and punishment:

As a comparison, here's a DOA3.2 tag combo video done by the French in 2002:
