All this talk of who copied who and stuff rather convienently forgets stuff from Last Bronx, Fighting Vipers Tekken and Soul Calibur. Also, wasn't VF3 released before the original Dead or Alive game? All those games are really old either way. How they play here and now is far more important than all that legacy stuff.

I really can't see what is being added to this new game that couldn't have been DLC or a patch. I really hope the multiplayer is compatible with people who brought and paid for the original.

-No, it is not. You as the defender have more options than just holding. You have both guarding and stepping where you eliminate much of the guessing and is quite safer than executing a hold. Even while in stun, you can stagger escape, another safer, significantly less guess based option. If you are forced to guess(heavy stun), you need to know what your opponents most powerful setups are: Which generally include a fast mid or a throw. Two-choice guessing...not 4 or 5 different guess choices.

-Lol. Fighting vipers was the 1st to add walls, wall juggles, wall throws, wall attacks, wall breaks, wall impalement, huge knockback attacks, huge launchers, air control/recovery, air throws, armor, vf3's evade system, Vf5's offensive move..etc. Last bronx...ummm Move cancel to hell and back. Custom combos....TK and SC who cares..nah joking.

-As for the compatibility, there will be no such thing. Team Ninja made a statement that the game was significantly changed from Vanilla, and would require players to get the updated version.

I think there's been a few patches to the game already. Think its like BlazBlue where they just added so many stuff the patch grew to about 1.4GB or something like that so they released extend - which I thoroughly enjoyed. Console release wise, DoA came out after VF2... Not sure on arcades as I wasn't a huge arcade fan.

I don't really understand what is going on in this new DOA. Granted I haven't played that much. It feels like basic guarding is not reliable anymore.

I played against this Ryu player who loved to make distance and teleport into his low or mid attack. It was difficult to guess which one to block but then side stepping just beat both options! I guess everything is situational, like all fighters you have to guess the right options for the person you're playing with.

Now we're getting there. What exactly are these changes?

I think the way people are launched are different now. Characters used to get hit and they start floating down, like VF. But in the E3 trailer, the launches on show spun them in a cartwheel motion and they seemed to go higher and drop faster? Also, did I see some power blows whilst bouncing the opponent off the floor?!

Yeah I'm cool with the mid - low mix up but it just seems like in DOA5 you're getting stunned so often that it never feels like you can just block and be safe since even a minor move can stun you and make you unable to block. I think they took the stun system a bit too far. In my opinion only heavy moves should be able to stun. This how it is in Tekken/VF. In DOA even just a normal punch from Kasumi seems like it can stun.

Also does Ryu have a teleport move?

-Juggles are relatively the same. What you speak of is the new Power launchers. They work like power blows, but Launch the opponent into the sky. Provide ceiling combos for the entire cast. Another change are "snap backs" which allow you to knock one opponent out for a breif period in Tag. New burst tag feature that allow your tag partner to tag-critical burst. there seems to be a new bound system..ala VF(see Doa is still borrowing lol), Momiji's Double jump crap and some other unidentified system and character changes.

Ryu does have a teleport move. You have to go into stance first. You just see a puff of smoke and he'vappear above you for a throw or mid attack or it will be up/in front of you for a low kick. The range isn't limited so there are some players who back flip to the edge of the screen then go into stance then teleport.

Normal attacks don't normally stun unless its a counter or end of a combo. Kasumi's PPPP strings last hit will stun but if you use it too often people will know to do a defensive hold.

Momiji has a double jump?! If you're talking about the move she does during Kasumi fight then it looked like you can do a somersault attack and cancel it in mid air into something else (leaving you in the air for a brief moment). Or at least that's what it seemed to me

    In DOA4/DOA5 sure.

    In DOA2/DOA3... yeah... no.

Quite surprised that they will be charging full price for this :/

It looked fun after those last few trailers and i'm glad Leon is back but the game is clearly only a minor revision update. They could have added all this via a patch and charged much less for it but guess they want to milk it.

Kinda funny how many people here were stating they wouldn't get R or FS if they hit consoles at full price, FS is practically an entirely different game from Vanilla 5 ...they should have gone all out on the tits while they were at it :(

Yer, VF3 was out before DoA1.

I also don't know how VF4 could have copied DoA3's juggle system when VF4 came out first :/ Anyway i'll keep out of that poppycock from the last few pages, shit was silly enough without me adding to it.

More matches from SlyBass, a player in NJ.

In Japan it's $60, just like NG3RE - and typically games in Japan go for $70-80 new release. Everywhere else in the world it's the standard expansion pack price of $40 in the US.

Of course, you also have the F2P version on the PS3 if you just want to play one character and pay $4 for that character.

Love the matches, but not a fan of AMV style vids. I wish he just left the normal game sound and music on. Anyway, keep'em coming!

Sly is one of the remaining Akira players on FSD trying to break him down in DOA5. I recommend anyone looking to see how Akira plays to check out some of his threads in the Akira character board on FreeStepDodge.com.

Here's two more vids of him. The first shows off utilizing the danger zone's properly to pull off a nice combo, and the second showing off some unique force-tech juggles into GBoD:
