Team Ninja said there was plans for one and I knew there would be one seeing as how DOA: Chronicles' Chronicle Mode ended.

SPOLIERS: A certain bad guy becomes might POTENTIALLY be the boss of DOA 5 since he put on a magical dark mask.

Ash_Kaiser Marly you no good jabroni I make you humble... Bronze Supporter

Looks like DOA4 with the stages being a bit more varied and the hold on mechanic from Zero Divide.

    Fixed!

A bit dissapointing for me, just looked like DoA4 with better stage design and some fatality mechanic. Been 5 years since 4, thought they would have worked on more [IMG]

I may be the only, but I noticed two things. Graphics only - the game looks a lot better than DOA4.

    also

I noticed a "pre alpha" sign. I wonder what that means...

Just an early build of the game, nothing's finalised but this is the direction they're going in.

Can't wait to kick A$$ with Tina, and I'm so glad the graphics are so much better.

The Art Design looks better than before. I hate how they looked like freaking dolls. I think they are going with the same Ninja Gaiden look. If so it will be great.

Just hope they take abolish DOA4 system and return back to DOA 3.1 and evolve on it.

Next year its gonna be a 3D fighting fest.

I really though that im done with DoA, but it seems like I was wrong. I really cound´t enjoy DoA4 to much for several reasons, but I really liked the older ones. DoA2 were pretty much my first Fighting Game I played over a long period of time and I own every part of the game between 2 and 4 and had much fun with them.

I guess even if it gets like 4 (or even worse), I´ll buy it just because of some nostalgic feelings.

I really like the weight shown in the animation of the hits. Visually it's gorgeous. Wonder how it will play.

Looks meh, and i'm sick of the ninja's always being top tier. Tier's do matter a lot in that game. If this is an early 2012 release i'll buy it, if it's near VF5FS release why bother. Kinda mixed on the return of the button mashers delight..

The ninja's are the poster boys/gals of the game very much like Ryu is for SF and Akira is for VF. In regards to that I think it's simply to get all the kids involved considering ninja's are "cool".

DOA button masher? In regards to this comment I can only offer a story of my own when playing DOA4 online. I attempted to button mash only to be countered and out skilled at every opportunity. That's not to say button mashing is predictable on the contrary if anything its unpredictable.

I've always loved the DOA series and I want to see more before I pass judgement.

I gotta say, in my experience DOA is one of the unfriendliest games for button mashers ever. Button mashers in VF get destroyed because of counter-hits, but in DOA they lose to counters.

I really like DOA. I think its a lot of fun, visually interesting, and has a lot of little elements that they added in where they didn't have to. I like that every character has reversals for all moves, a universal catch throw, a low throw, and a low catch. That being said: its one of the most unbalanced fighters I've ever played. DOA is tons of fun casually, but in tournaments, its an absolute bore. Ninjas or GTFO.

My hope for DOA is balance. With Itagaki gone, there's some hope for that. He's on record with one of the magazines saying that they purposely gave the strongest moves to the ninjas, because they were his favorite characters. So either they'll balance the ninjas down to everyone else, or they'll break every character the same.

White Worm: very good and positive points.

Don't agree with you on balance. I think it's very balanced overall. Those universal elements you mention (which I also love about the game, makes it very consistent and accessible) do help with that.

The ninjas tend to be in the higher tiers, but every game has tiers and like VF, DOA's are relatively flat. Certainly not AS flat, as we have some upper and lower characters, but truly anyone can win.

Look back at the major tournament results and ninjas have not dominated.

White Worm is correct, it is extremely unbalanced, I was one of the better players. I ended up switching out of my main character, which was mid tier, for a top tier character. Hayabusa, Ayane, Hayate, are all leagues better than the rest. It is funny that the #1 online player at DOA, has to switch his main as the Tier's dictate from game to game.

I also agree that Itagaki F'd up the game, with his 'my characters are the best' BS. He made the original Ninja Gaiden unapproachable to many gamers, costing them tons of money in sales. The guy is on a tremendous ego trip.

Yes everything can be countered, I would just sit by a knocked down n00b and low or mid counter.. I rarely played a bad player though after achieving max rank. I had my own circle, of high level players, we would just hold our own lobbies etc. Sometimes one or two of us would go into a room of mid/low level players and just sit there and clean it out. Didn't take too long before we got called the N word or whatever else, and they left angry..

High level play at DOA isn't that difficult imo.
A good guessing game, and juggle strings, with the relatively large counter window, aren't to taxing.

You guys are right though, it's a blast for casual play. Had more fun with that game online than any other. Miss some of my old LIVE friends.

steelbaz: Your tier list is off, I can only assume you don't have much offline tournament experience. Having played at top level in WCG, CGS, and watched closely the other major tournaments the game had, I can't agree with your assessment on balance.

WCG 2006: Won by Ein, a mid tier character. 2007, but Helena, who was not on your list but was considered top tier around or after this time.

You also do not mention Gen Fu who is top.

So you see... its a lot more balanced than you think.
