    1. No It's much better
    2. Not sure exactly what you mean, but I'm gonna go with NO lol

I really like the game, but it's hard for me to love it simply because I just don't understand DOA frame logic. I'm really trying but I just don't get it. It's the only game that doesn't have a proper frame punishment system.

In SF if you block certain things you can get a guaranteed punish like a sweep, EX move... something! In Soul Calibur, MK, Tekken, VF, My Little Pony, KOF or any other fighter this system exist, but in DOA you get nothing.

Maybe I'm looking at the game the wrong way or maybe I'm just to old fashion considering that I'm 40. Anyway I plan to keep playing the game for a long time because it's definitely fun, but I'm not sure if I am going to devote as much time to it as I had originally planned.

Its not just you, I feel the exact same way and im not really an OG. I like the game, but even going thourgh the tutorial, it doesnt make clear how to get damage necessary to be good. They mention all of the hi-counters and stuns but dont mention which attacks keep opponent IN stun.

So I have to dig through a ton of moves to find what set of moves I can piecemeal together to get somebody into critical stun without them popping out because 3K gave like only +7 advantage that they can shake out of or something. And then I have to make variations so I dont get bopped by a hold. its like a pure game of 'Flowchart Fighter' - its a weird and annoying barrier, because even getting correct guesses using the triangle system doesnt mean much when my resulting attack damage does like only 50. Maybe its deeper in the tutorial and i hadnt seen it yet, but I wish team ninja was more blatant about how to keep someone stunned like the game expects me to.

But yeah, outside of combos, frame advantage means absolutely zero, unless its guaranteed throw punishable. This means I play a match and block thes 20 minute long strings only to get mashed out and CH'd after its over. Of course, this means that the game is encouraging me to mash hold, which leads to the inevitable cycle of scrub-like playing mentality DoA gets blasted for. And now since getting thrown out of a hold hurts as much as it does, that keeps me from mashing hold until I start memorizing every characters attack strings, plus their variations, leaving me at the mercy of this gigantic game of Memory, where people will win only out of experience and not necessarily skill or mindgames.

The stun system was my only real gripe about it and you can't really punish anything at all. The last time I played I punished everything with 2P and it was best thing for me to do since no one on DOA I played then seemed to use it. The only ones that use 2P aside from me were knew VF players like me specifically aside from that I didn't try punishing anything. There were some moves like the flip kicks and Ayane spiral arrow like kick (SF reference) that can be punished by anything but for the most part it is pointless for me to even try to punish.

I am not a big fan of how everything is about stun not frame advantage that is something I will have to adapt to if I bother with this game past the experimental stage I am in now. I find the tutorial very good though why couldn't they have had this back the original version of DOA5 seriously. It makes you wonder what the developers were thinking when they made this game originally

I don't play DoA5 much... But does this link answer the concerns of DoA5's whacked frame counter?

    http://www.doaworld.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4274-dead-or-alive-5-exploring-frame-data/

(If it does, the game should explain it lol. And why are there false startup frames?!)

(**Also.... something like this is waaaayyyyy better than when a DoA player says something like, "DoA doesn't work like that, you can't think of frames this way, just throw after you block something!" :p)

Team Ninja patched that frame data issue like a month after DOA5 vanilla came out.

@Sorwah brought this up when someone was asking about this game.

I watched a tutorial vid they made at FSD, and looked at the Stun game. After watching that, the game made more sense.

Just put your mouse on part you want. This is for 5, not 5U, but most of pertains to 5U. One differnce though, is that to get out of stuns in 5U you hold G (H in DOA terms) while doing a 360 motion on the stick.

-Just a tip, you really do not want to keep your opponent in stun, you are just allowing them more opportunities to use critical holds against you. Best bet is to force a nitaku situation against your opponent. Make them have to choose whether to eat your most powerful throw, or most damaging juggle!

-You are playing the game wrong. Stop trying to string random stuns along. Go for stuns that give you guaranteed damage from them, like limbo stuns, sit down stuns etc. From this you will eliminate all the unnecessary guessing you are putting yourself through.

-You need to have an understanding of not only your attacks, but also your opponents. DOA strings are all grouped in sets. Instead of trying to remember(or even guess) all the different attributes in every string, remember the 1st 2 or so moves in each set, and punish/defend accordingly...whether its ducking, crushing, evading, holding etc. This way you are not psychologically trapped in a long winded string. Frame advantage means a lot in 5U, just need to know how to properly set up your opponent.

-Well, you can whiff punish your opponent and get counter launcher(juggles), Knockback(spacing), Knockdown(ground game). Also, DOA's major form of punishment are command throws. They are the fastest out of all 3D fighters, and truly put a hurting on your opponent.

that's not much different from getting out of staggers in VF.

Except in previous DOAs they allowed you to stagger by going opposite directions (7373737373...).

What they also fixed was making it so button presses don't help stagger. It's been a staple in the series but most players would just use directions while holding guard (to avoid attacking or jumping accidentally out of critical). What they found though was players using turbo and holding down the H (G) button so they'd break fastest stagger near immediately and come out guarding.

-No problem. I know it is very difficult to break into the DOA universe. Unlike VF, DOA kinda promotes the senseless scrub mashing-low level play...That is why it is so appealing to the casual market. You are practically on your own while trying to level up in this series. This is why there is FSD...freestepdodge.com to help all newcomers adjust!

Basically 90% of the time you punish with throws and your fastest untechable throw is 7 frames (5 frame neutral throws can be teched). That means your frame advantage game only really exists between +1 - +6. This is also mostly a "false" disadvantage because most attacks are strings and you have to guess between whether or not they are choosing to finish the string. Combine this with the fact that these characters have really fast crushing attacks akin to a safe 12 frame mule kick from Shun Di and things get silly quickly. Because you only really have +1 - +6 to work with, most of your slower attacks don't have much use in these situations and you can end up with a very limited moveset.

You know that impression you would do of me playing that music game at Next Level? That's how you play this game!

Yeah, I actually figured out what was wrong with the frame data counter when the original came out within the first few days. Someone at Team Ninja didn't know how frame data worked. Which may explain some things...:D

I also discovered the backdash glitch on the first day. I'm the unknown Christopher Columbus of DOA!
