Welp. Looks like today will be the day I'm getting DOA5U. It's on sale today for only $13 in the lil countdown sale thing on Xbox. As much as I like/would rather have the disc, case and manual. That's too good of a deal.. And mother of God on the DLC costumes for that game! That's a lot of dam money for all of it.

One thing I noticed while watching a lot of video on this game for the past month or so, is that 96% of the people I saw playing, were using a pad. I don't really know what to make of it, lol, just something I noticed.

 

Pretty much what the title says.
I wont say TTT2 cause after playing it extensively i grow tired of it.
So as an alternative to VF is a good substitute i believe.
So anyone is up for some DOA/VF5FS sessions?
Plus from my experience its ranked is pretty much Dead as its name implies.
But... It has a good lag free online and its lobbies are full, even better then VF (sadly).
Anyone cares?

P.s. I suck at it but im improving...

 

I'd ply you, but I have DOA5U for PS3, and while I have VF5FS for 360, I don't currently have live :/

Still, I don't find it too hard to get into ranked matches on DOA.

 

I have open NAT and the fight searching during arcade play ON.
I usually get to play 3-4 games if im lucky on ranked.
Lobbies are always full though and thats on XBOX.

 

I guess it's just more active on PSN then, but there are times when it does take a while to get into a ranked match. The netcode is generally fine, but when it's bad it gets BAD.

Seriously, I really give a big kudos to any VF'ers and DOA'ers trying out each other! Whenever I see people on here or FSD deciding to try out the other game I get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside! lol

DOA isn't as bad as people seem to think...Sure it may have some silliness and raunchiness still, but the gameplay is tightening up and it has a hell of a lot of character to it!

It's just a really fun and highly suitable alternative to playing VF! Vice versa for those coming from DOA to VF!

Still, Tecmo Koei deserves a major kudos in general for putting so much TLC into these VF characters(Akira nerf withstanding lol)...They have done a lot with them and respected where they come from...They've made the character models amazing, brought back moves from previous iterations of VF5, gave one a spot in the story mode, provided them with great DLC(Akira Sushi Chef/Ramen Cook or whatev outfit withstanding....), etc..I love it.

So guys, if you can, try DOA5U...If you're new, preferably with another VF-player or someone who can show you the ropes as it has an entirely differently flow to VF that can be VERY frustrating at first! lol

If you want to get ranked matches in DOA5U, the best way is to go in training mode and have ranked throwdowns turned on.

 

Yea man I'm having fun with it so far. I've only done the tutorial, some of the story mode and a little bit of command training for a few characters so far. Some of the things were confusing for me a little at first, like the criticals and high counters with throws and holds. I've been meaning to go back to those sections of the tutorial before posting, but didn't happen

Besides Akira, I'm really liking Kokoro (sp?). She kinda reminds me of Akira with some of her moves. That lil stance thing she does with ++ mid string is awesome. And I just like how she looks. But there's quite a few characters that look/feel interesting to me like Rig, Ayane and Hitomi.

I'm glad they have an option to make side stepping +++ instead of up up/down down. Also glad you can just do + to throw. So I just set the buttons the same way I play VF with. When I first was setting my buttons, I thought throw and guard had to be two different buttons.

Got a lot of learning to do in this game with the defense.

EDIT: And one small gripe that kinda sucks is during the command training, pushing in the right thumb stick to see a demonstration of the move. Seems like they made that part without people using arcade sticks in mind.

 

That's awesome man! Double thumbs up on liking Kokoro! She's my other character aside from Akira there, as she is essentially the female Akira-same fighting style of Baji Quan-Just different interpretations. Wait till you get to their part in the story. lol

Ah-What you're referring to is her Heichu stance! That, (and string-ending variants) and will be your friends!

Yes! That's the stuff I need right there. And after playing her command training again, I realized her stance input is just + Thought there was a in there for some reason. But yea, I beat the story mode today (which was a lot of fun since you get to try most all of the characters and have their move list on the screen while you fight) and when her part with Akira came up, I was like "ahhhhh snap, dat form!" lol. Was pretty awesome.

I've yet to play online yet, but I'm having a lot of fun playing and learning this game. It's pretty awesome. I know I have a lot to learn to get decent at this, and not just memorize moves and hop in and start competing. But what I like is that they fighting system doesn't seem to be broken, and you can't get trapped in loops n stuff. Seems like a huge part will be learning the other characters strings and their evasive properties with certain moves. Also, shaking out of stuns will be something that's vital in this too. I keep accidently doing holds so far when I try to shake out, hahah. I think it's cause I'm spinning the stick before pushing .

I just finished Kokoro's combo challenge. And half way through I was like "Yea, this game is awesome". Maybe it's cause I'm oblivious to what I'm about to encounter when playing against other people. But for now, it's dope.

Did a couple Tag Team things to unlock costumes 2 at a time. And of course I picked Kokoro and Akira, and when I saw their match intro and outro, I was like


That's awesome her and Akira are the same style. She has the elbow, the first two hits of his Dragon Lance Combo, (among other things) and her SPoD throw is hella dope, hahah. She starts with what Akira does during his ++ except she hits em twice with each shoulder, then double palms em lol. Ahh man, having fun.

EDIT: Oh yea. And I just noticed that you can buy almost all the costumes in one big pack. I thought they wanted $5-$8 per character at first. If they ever do that big pack at 50% off, I'd grab dat... And why is Alpha not banned from Tournaments yet? I'm suprised the community let's that go down. But hey, dats on them tho.
