Their controller scheme is still similar to VF right?
don't the have /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as the basic button on the controller? as opposed to one button for each limb like tekken?

The gameplay engine. I think that should change your opinion quite a bit since Sega supplied them the basic game mechanics etc. From Sega was just an inspiration vs Sega supplied the core building materials and collaborated on DOA 2 as well changes nothing?

Regardless Of which if a 5 somehow comes out i will play it and buy it. Those Hard hits feel good after playing VF with those soft blows lol! Anywhay DOA and VF are the same to me in sense that they are rhythm games. I can stay away from Tekken for 2 years then can come right back in full stride. VF,DOA i would have to work on my Timing and conditioning.

No, it further supports the fact DOA is a retarded clone. Of course it changes nothing. Why eat a shiny, plastic steak when I can eat a real one that looks just as delicious?

    This is true...

But is DOA a cheap clone, or is it an example of taking the
VF engine in another direction? (the wrong direction?)

Why it gotta be the wrong direction though? Last i check the game got higher Ratings than VF5 and Tekken 5. Like it or not the Graphics still looks better than VF5 and the backgrounds are far better. Stop hating there's room for everybody. VF5 ain't the only 3-D game thats good.

If you noticed there was a question mark ? after wrong direction. I play mostly fighting games, all kinds:

Def Jam FFNY, Way of the Samurai, Tekken, Fight Night, MK, Rise to Honor, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, K1- Grand Prix, DOA, Def Jam Icon, Soul Caliber,
Urban Reign, Kengo, and Virtua Fighter. I usually find at least one reason to play
all of these from time -to-time.

So, I'm not hating on DOA. I own it DOA2 for the PS2 and I play it from time to time.

But of all of these games IMHO VF is absolutely the best when used as a sport and for real competition. There have been times when it has been used to settle very serious matters in the real world. I mean I've seen a few matches, where
both competitors chose a VF match rather than beating each other bloody in a real fight. I don't think any other fighting game is as fair and balanced where true skill
wins at the end -of-the-day and could have been used for this purpose.

In all of these matches where it was the case where VF was used as a proxy for a real ASS beating, both competitors at the end agreed to let the results of the VF match settle the score. I just don't think this would be feasible with any other fighter.

Its not hating on DOA , its a matter of respecting VF for its true superiority as a
virtual sport. You might not understand that now, but if you play VF long enough
and well enough to compete in high level matches you'll see what I mean.

I would like to see DOA 5 for the PS3! I would buy it and play it to relax and help me gain better and new perspectives on VF. I hope its not dead. But make no mistake about it, in terms of virtual martial arts on a console or in a arcade, the virtua fighter series is second to none.

Because its blatant in its superficiality. I would actually give it more respect if it didn't use context-sensitive input. For example, Gen Fu has a move where you "hold" X, and another where you "tap"; these are completely different BTW. Its as stupid as it sounds. You may think you're tapping it, but the system reads it as a hold. And remember, some strings mix and match these. Ridiculous. The holds do ridiculous damage for little work, the models are rendered well but don't look erotic in the least because the engine makes them look like plastic dolls...I could go on and on.

I'm not hating; it has its place. Its for shallow people who don't take fighters seriously and just want to mash and be on a similar level. My little sister likes to play it for that reason and I like it because I won't have to basically stand still like I would in a superior fighter to give her a chance. Its no good for anything more than that.

The graphics are better than VF5? What fucking game are you looking at. Aside from the span of the stages, DOA4 could (and should) have been an Xbox title. So now it can't even claim victory to that.

Pfffft! If DOA is 'shallow'(even though DOA4 was mashy as heck) then try learning the game more often. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

By the way, DOA4 does look like a last-gen game. The hair animation is atrocious(it looks like ribbons or snakes attached to their heads) compared to the previous 3 DOA games and Ultimate. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

I take it Kristina is a hardcore DOA fan? You'd defend this game to death wouldn't you? Even though it has so many flaws, and even though the series took ten steps back from 3.1? I take Ita leaving Ninja/Tecmo a blessing in disguise. Maybe they can now get on the right track and go beyond 3.1. I think thats wishful thinking.

The Tekken and Soul series also have so many flaws as well. Not just DOA. Besides, not every fighting game, 2D or 3D, is perfect.;)

And no, I don't defend the DOA series to death.

Yeah, I know nothing is perfect and not even VF can ever be perfect. You just seem like you prefer DOA over most games, even VF. Thats cool, not alot of people on here do.

I don't prefer DOA over VF. I like them both equally. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
