everyone here wants to believe that you're right.

the issue is rather whether or not we think it is the case, and quite frankly, i've tried to stay optimistic, but the wait has been long and painful.

aksys (us publisher of blazblue) does things like let people play beta versions of their games at cons and shit and likewise they get a fuckton of feedback and fan support. on the other hand, you have sega who won't give as much as a confirm/deny.

and of course, anyone who's been a sega fanboy throughout the years knows that this is (sadly) just typical sega. but it doesn't change the fact that in a race between beetles and pintos, sega's a ferrari in the back of the pack just not trying because he doesn't feel like it. even capcom is finally showing sega up when it comes to userbase interaction, i mean what the hell.

If Sega is localizing the arcade game so other countries can purchase it, WHY would they announce a home version? I think the arcade game will go out everywhere (except here haha) and then next year, we will get a home/Final tuned version.

With arcades popping up again here and there with import fighters, once the game is released for other countries perhaps these arcades will purchase it and get this community some more exposure. In Texas we have japanese style arcades: Planet Zero (houston) and Arcade UFO (austin) and there is talk of a dallas japanese style arcade opening soon.

VF5R ver.B looks really hot. Keep sending emails to Sega. If you want it, don't give up on it.

Don't know why people think there will be a Final Tuned to VF5, the game hasn't been succesful enough for it, I think Sega will either take a break or move on to VF6 now.

It is inconceivable to me, that after Soul Calibur IV started the revival of the fighting game phenomenon, HD remix gave it some shaped, Street Fighter IV certified and stamped it for here to stay, Blazblue and KOFXII and Tekken 6 will provide the many flavors, that Sega will sit this one out.

In the year where there are SFIV tournament edition sticks still selling like hotcakes 3 months after it came out, in the year that lizard licks has to temporarily suspend checkout at his online store, that Sega would miss this opportunity.

If they do come, I guess they will be late to the show AGAIN. They were late to the online show when EVERYONE knew it would have been mandatory by this generation

Makes sense, I think. 1 more fighting game coming out at the same time might be too much.

Too many cooks in the broth. Or too many cocks in the brothel. Whichever tickles your fancy. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

They're probably gonna hold out until all the rest of the fighting games are out before announcing theirs.

To be simple and answer the threads question, bar all the money, Jap arcade crap blah-di-blah-blah,
The question is "Do you still believe in VF5R for consoles?"
    and the answer is. No
    I simply don't anymore.
Might be pessimistic of me, but hey, given what's happened... well...

I haven't posted in so long, but been following this for a while... As Gerald said, the release of R on console would be one of the few things to get me playing again, and I think this includes others as well

From the outside (someone that pretty much quit playing about 16 months ago), it seems to go along with the trend of VF's popularity in general at this point that they wouldn't release R.

I don't think any of the versions of 5 sold all that well in the big scheme of things

I don't think the game is too popular in arcades in Japan, no one has even released any kind of mook for it over there AFAIK

I think that while it seems like an easy port, I remember hearing the graphics engine was completely redone from 5 (different rendering software), so I think they'd want to rebuild it totally, big cost

Look at what happened with FT, which I think was more popular

In the end, I think that now that I'm outside the "bubble" a little, I can see that relative to their return, Sega's doing what makes most sense in terms of pleasing the fans (the relatively few, lingering hardcore fans) and trying to make a little money. The way I see it, you're asking them to put hundreds of thousands of dollars of marketing & developing to please, from what I can see, maybe 10 thousand fans?

I don't think most people in Japan feel they REALLY need a console version. That's the core of the audience

I think we should feel lucky we got the 360 version of 5, that was basically a gift from god. They put a lot of money & time into a new version to please the hardcore fanbase & try to grow the market. They gave us online play, which they said they'd never do.

The only reasonable solution I can see from Sega's end would be to release it as DLC, but it'd be tricky because you'd have to update for people who didn't buy the content as well, like they do for MMOs with expansions so they could at least have their box render say Taka, even if they didn't pay to use him.

I dunno, not trying to rain on the parade here, but I think we have to face the fact that the game just isn't popular on console, the best it ever got was VF4, when it got huge press here (also when the hardcore scene was biggest)

but, of course, I hope we see it sometime

    Akiralove,

What you wrote make sense and it's quite reasonable,

But the thing is, most game Sega ever released haven't been mega-hit. I can't remember the last Sega game (outside of Sonic) that sold more than a million copies.

If we go by what you say, Sega better never release another game right?

It's people like US, the VFers, who have kept Sega afloat for so long and will always do. I bought all major Sega releases for the console I own, and I agree with you, VF5 is a gift from God.

If Sega decides to release R, they better to it inexpensively and try to cram as much content in the disc as possible. Some PR stunt wouldn't hurt either!

It is the best fighing game out there after all...

Valkyria Chronicles didn't sell well and Sega made additional DLC for it. And anime and manga...and tons of other things as well. Why wasn't VF given the same treatment even though it had similar (or better sales)?

Remember it's not like Sega has to spend that much on promoting a game that the WCG lauds constantly. They should instead work the community...instead of suing it (Beat Tribe / EVO).
VF5/R hasn't been out of the top ten yet. That's pretty popular in my opinion. Just because it's not Tekken or Gundam doesn't mean it's dead. It's still top ten in Japan amongst fighting games.
Again, VF5 on PS3 outsold Valkyria Chronicles. Not to mention VF5 came out right after the PS3 launch and VC came out years later when PS3s had sold more systems. VF5 was also credited with helping move PS3s off of the shelves.

VF5R not being on consoles has nothing to do with sales it is purely Sega being a horrible company at this point concerning the VF franchise.

LOL get over yourself it's a matter of sales, more specifically it's a matter of releasing the game without losing money.

    ---

OK here I go, this will either get the thread locked or myself banned so brace yourself guys.

IO stop trolling you moron. This is a thread about VFR and not about how much you dislike Sega and how much you love Street Fighter. SF came and went, HD and 4 both. Nothing has changed, VF5 is still the best game out there. So GTFO and stop trolling about your dislike for Sega and get over yourself (Xenophobia? LOL you are an idiot).

I'm guessing they're merely having a second stab with Valkyria Chronicles, trying to see if they can actually manage to make some cash from it.... I think they probably getting tired of doing the same with VF.

To be honest, only really arcadia and ?dengeki? release mooks, and arcadia seems to be cutting back a lot, there was a statement saying that they'll try to put the mook/tougeki tamashii/card collectors complete information into there standard arcadia magazine (for 200yen more per month). I mean, T6BR doesn't have an arcadia mook yet, and it's been no1. throughout. I'd say that when the home version for BR comes out it will get one by someone who isn't arcadia (obviously) but VF5R may not get one unless a home version comes out.

It takes quite a bit to get banned. If you think something you post is offensive enough to ban you, why post it unless you really want to be banned?

If you can't control yourself from posting with some common sense, take some time off from VFDC. If you can't do that yourself and need assistance, you can directly tell Myke you wish to be temporarily banned. I am quite sure he can happily obliged to that wish.

    Thanks, Akai.

Well this is an interesting situation, because I'm tired or reading IO bullshit. I blocked him for some time and unblocked it recently since he seemed to have dropped it for a while.

But recently he's been posting about Xenophobia and shit and I sure cannnot tolerate him. So what do you suggest? Let him talk shit all the time or tell him to STFU? your call, you are the moderator after all!

    I just remembered something...

Yu Suzuki once said in a magazine interview, years ago (I think it was right when VF3 was released), that they only plan to do 5 VF's. His reason was that he expected the graphics by then to be as photo-realistic as possible, and thus, there would be no reason to make another VF afterwards. Proof? None, as I no longer have that magazine, but hand on heart, I swear this is true.

Of course, Yu Suzuki's no longer that involved... but interesting (worrying?) trivia anyway.

They still have a loooong way to go before the series is "maxed out"...

It's like in 1960, they thought we'd be teleporting around and exploring the depths of outer spacer by 1999... It's just one of those things...

I don't think VF5 is a money maker for Sega or arcade operators. VF5 is probably equally as expensive as VF3 since the Lindberg HD cabinets were a big step up from the Versus City cabinets.

If you want to buy a VF5 Kit it will cost you $3,297.52

    http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/lindberg/Virtua_Fighter_5_kit_6700.html

That price is without the HD Versus cabinet. If you want the cabinet you have to tack on another 5-10K depending if you can get one used or not and factoring in $500 or so in shipping cost.

If R is released I don't know many operators able to recover a few thousand dollars that the software upgrade will cost.

The distributor above is pretty trustworthy and their website has shown R as TBA since R was released in Japan.

I believe that VF used to enjoy high placement among fighters in Japanese arcade rankings for extended periods of time. VF5 might not be as popular as previous VF games.

I think few arcades in Asia would be willing to pick up an international R release considering that VF5 did poorly in local arcades.

I do want R to be released on an arcade or console, but I have doubts that the game is popular enough for Sega to consider it.
