This is going to sound like a really silly question....but what does "nerfed" mean?

    Re: ...

nerfed- term used when a character loses a lot of what made him good in the last iterration.

Hayabusa lost his [6][P][K] and his [P][P][2][K] and [2][G]+[K] are worthless now. Handstand is gone pretty much. His new NInpa stance sucks, everything he does from it can be stepped.

Jann lost his guaranteed [6][6][K] after his catch throw [6][G]+[P]. He also lost his frame adv from [6][6][K] and associated series.

Christie however got good. [2][1][4][P]+[K] (originally [1][P]+[K]) dodges and causes a bounce for combos. She has better throws and her built in stance is looking really good.

It means they are not as strong as before.

The term derives from Nerf toys. Nerf (computer gaming) wiki

Guess they're trying to make DAO less button mashy but I haven't played the game since part 2 so I wouldn't know. Heck I don't even know the top tier characters in that game, lol. Isn't is Ayane?

    Re: ...

Ayane got raped in DoA3.1/3.2. And apparently is gonna be the same for DoA4.

Best tier for DoA2 was Ein, Hayabusa, Ayane, Gen fu, Jann Lee

3.1/3.2 was Bass, Hayate, Jann Lee, Gen Fu, Leon

I almost remember reading somewhere that DOA4 was going to be a progression of DOA2, not DOA3. Is there any truth to that?

If it is a progression of DOA3 is Hayate's cartwheel going to be gone.

Doa4 is a progression of Doa3.2 with a few elements from Doa2U(ie slopes/ Slope attacks, ceilings/ Celing attacks, and the 4point hold system). Hayate's Cartwheel was fixed in doa3.2, so there shouldnt be any cartwheel issues.

After a load of obvious delays in what seemed like an eternity, DoA4 is finally confirmed to be shipping to stores sometime this week.

IGN review (if any of you give a damn)
    9.0
    http://www.doacentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5531

    New updates:
Contains every DoA character+ Spartan and Tengu (why they added him I don't know)
Slow Escape (aka struggling in VF) is WAY BETTER in this game, in fact it's probably going to be the preffered way to get out of stuns instead of counter holds.
From first hand play: Lisa sucks, Kokoro looks good, Elliot is alright, and Tengu got nerfed.
Online play: still sucks for serious matches as frame data gets hella jacked up, but otherwise is improved from DoAU
Stages: Look awesome, so far it seems like you can tech all the moving hazards (cars, cheetahs, warthogs, etc.)
Sparring mode has been improved a bit
You can save and playback any match (online or offline)
    45 in-game acheivements to accomplish

Things are looking good from my point of view. This'll hold me over till VF5 pretty well I think. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Edit:
Xboxyde is hosting the intro movie and some other fighting vids of DoA4 final build. Might wanna check it out. Itagaki loves Aerosmith /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Harking back to a previous thread, vis a vis the DOA4 intro: This is flash.
Kokoro's form is definitely from the Wu Lianzhi baji line, incidentally.

the stage looks amazing tbh. impressed!
    hair looks kind fake.
best part in the intro vid:
jahn fighting against hitomi, that stage seems very fun LOL
Hayabusha doing elbow then upper(dp alike), then dpc 2hits!!!!, then air throw(like kages tft 8k+g throw)
game looks decent, mind give a try.(just for fun of course heh)

    Re: ...

Over all I like it, but it's hard to tell how your going to get up. I don't see the difference in how I fall so sometimes I am trying to do a rising attack only realize I can't. So I just get knocked back down again, and again, and again. Very frustating. If anyone can dig up for figure out how rising works, please feel free to make a post. Maybe I'll hit training mode and play with it.

    ^Gamespot sucks! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

When you're knocked down by a move on counter hit or high counter hit you can't use rising kicks. It's a new addition to the oki play in DoA. Just make sure when you get knocked down you keep an eye on the CH/HCH signal.

lol it's kind of funny, guys on SRK are complaining about how DoA wake up options are too good, but from what I see waking up in DOA4 is a whole harder than DoA2/3. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

hey perhaps u can help me out here.
I remember reading that DOA4 has a new 'speedy' effect(?) that's supposed to be visible during gameplay.
Something abt the screen blurring....still haven't seen it at all.

Maybe I just made up the whole thing from nowhere.

    Either way, oops.

From the very very very limited amt of gameplay vids available..it appears that some are still using CH to get out of stuns instead of struggling. Well, I suppose yrs of CH-ing will do that to ya haha.

No harm done, the vids were entertaining.

    and busa's NG combo...
    *faints*.

Dled all the ending vids....I cannot say I enjoyed alot of em at all.

From a developer that once criticized tekken's ending vids as *insert ur own personal fav degrading comment*, personally I think DOA4's endings have the same....'flair'.

Still, at the end of the day, I am sure there are ppl that enjoyed the endings. I know quite a few who kept wanting to see christie's ending. I am sure for one that don't like it, another will like it. To each its own.

Personally, I was watching lei fang's ending...just as she was squeezed...my mother walked in...errrrrrrrr.
    Talk about a revoltin development.

I'm new to the game/series so I suck pretty bad. Just fair warning. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif But it's pretty fun and I'll stick with it at least until VF5 comes out. I spent enough money on the game so I better stick with it (system, game, 2 sticks, xbox live = insane).

    Hope to see you online.

Findings from playing a bit at friends:

Sabaki have been added to Kokoro, Elliot and I forget who else. They aren't that great cause their range sucks but still pretty cool addition.

Struggling out of stuns is pretty good in this game, I'm amazed at how many situations this technique is practical.

The ground game is hella tight imo, I love shutting down peoples wake up options by forcing them to get up. Bass IS too good. Buffalo Horn makes me weep.

I like Jann alot from what I've played but I miss f,F+P giving a free ff,k. It'll work on high counter tho.

So far the hold system is really cool, even tho the AI seems to be reading the hell out of my commands. I beat my friend pretty bad tho thanks to the new system changes. I'm seriouisly loving this game, now if only microsoft would put out more 360's so I could actually go to walmart/bestbuy and get one... damn bill gates.
