Human Warrior (Champion/Templar) - Took Templar because the emissaries were annoying me so much
Wynne - Healing, healing and more healing
    Morrigan - Attack magic
Shale or Oghren - More tank damage or Leilana - Lockpicking

Elf Mage (Blood Mage/Spirit Healer) - Took Spirit Healer because I lost Wynne when I did something in game
Leilana - Ranged combat, Arrow of Slaying, Lockpicking
Any two of Sten, Oghren or Shale - Tanking and big damage and amusing conversations with Leilana

I'm going with an Elf Rogue next. I'll probably have Wynne, Morrigan and Sten/Shale/Oghren as my team.

I think I killed Wynne the moment we met so I never got to play with her. I guess if you side with the Templars she'll try to kill you anyway. Morrigan is pretty sweet. She comes stacked with pretty good magic and I like the frost spells, though I see how much of a bitch Blizzard could be playing on Nightmare difficulty due to full-damage friendly fire.

As far as playing through more than once, I'm going to do the same. There's just so much to play around with in this game, I think you would have to play through the whole game two, three, or even four times to really get try out everything.

I find the game very fun and addictive.

I definitely want to know what everyone's party is! Also, what spells/skills/combinations do you think are the best or the most powerful?

I want to make an archer and a dual-weapon character on my next play through. I think I will also try some of the more obscure magic next time, like spirit magic or beef-up type magic (sadly, I can't think of a better word) where my mage will cast spells that boost the rest of the party's stats.

Killing Wynne is actually a pretty daft thing to do. She's the only specialised healer in the game and no, she won't leave or kill you if you side with the Templars at the end of the quest when talking to the Templar leader.

She will leave however if you choose to destroy the ashes in the mountain shrine. If she's in the party, she'll attack you, but if she's not, she'll leave when you next go to camp.

Is the Mubari Hound good compared to having another character fill that spot???

I can't decide if the dog is as good as the other NPCs or what... I've been using him pretty much the whole game so far and I now have him set to run down any enemy attacking with a ranged weapon or magic. I figured that he's pretty fast on the battlefield so he would be good at rushing out to stop enemies from picking off my power characters while they're in melee combat. The only problem with that is he can stuck out there alone and get ganged up on, but it seems to work pretty well -- especially with overwhelm, because it can usually take out an archer or mage in one use.

One of the other problems is he can use much equipment at all. He only has two slots, one for a collar and one for war-paint. This sort of nerfs him because he can't get too many boosts to his stats from items where the humanoids can use 4-piece armor sets, two rings, a necklace, a belt and weapons to boost them. It does let you spread your best items better as he can't use them but that's not really good enough to say it's a benefit...

    - Does anyone here use the dog?

    - How do you use him?

    - Is the dog worth using or are all of the other characters basically better?

If you're using the dog, make sure you urinate on the landmark locations to enable Mabari Dominance in that area.

Other than that, I can't say what to do with it. I prefer to use another character.

What level do I have to be to take out the High Dragon???

I tried like 3-4 times last night and failed absolutely miserably. When he picks you up and just thrashes your body around like a rabid dog? That shit HURTS!

My party is ~12-13... I could get to the area where the dragon was easily but he kicked me around so hard it was depressing. One thing that was cool was casting Force Field while my guy was in his mouth (which does work BTW) but the reptilian bastard still ended up killing me. I got the distinct feeling I basically had no chance to beat him at this point... Sadly, I don't really have any specializations yet, so I imagine that could be part of the problem...

He killed my dog in two seconds flat too.

Probably around 18+. I tried when I was level 13 and got my ass handed to me twice and thought "nuts to it".

I'm currently level 19 and I'm going back to try and take him. I've killed the other "dragon" (no spoilers), so I think this one should be killable now.

Edit: I beat it at level 20 with my rogue, Alistair, Morrigan and Wynne. Although he died after he got bitten, I kept Alistair healthy and the two mages stayed safe while whittling it down. You get a fair amount of stuff for beating it.

    I just got this game.

I'm in Redcliffe at the moment, just defeated a Revenant in the Castle Courtyard.

Have two characters, a Human Noble who uses 2H weapons and a Dwarf Noble who tanks.

So far, I'm really enjoying it, playing through on normal but I'll definetly be playing through on the highest difficulty.

No deaths yet and I just cleared Redcliffe without anyone getting killed.

My party is Me, Alistair, Morrigan and Shale. Shale tanks, me and Alistair deal damage and Morrigan supports. If and when I get on top of a fight I take control of Morrigan and go on the offensive. Been working well so far.

The dog is one of the better pure attackers

I finished my second playthrough as a female Human Noble Rogue and it was so much more fun compared to my dwarf fighter.

Mages used to be so much trouble for my Dwarf fighter; when my cunning is high enough, my rogue can sneak in position first to backstab a mage when my fighters start drawing aggo. The initial backstab won't kill but she can follow up with Dirty Fighting and Coup De Grace to inflict serious damage before the mage can do anything.

IIRC her stats at lvl 18/19 were: Str 16 Dex 50 Wil 20 Mag 14 Cun 35 Con 20.

My favourite use for the Dog is also as a mage disabler. When I level up the Dog, I make a beeline for the Overwhelm talent. If you have seen your party members get Overwhelmed by a monster, you know how effective it can be. Basically, Dog/monster leaps onto the target humanoid, pinning it to the ground and start tearing away - the target is helpless for the duration of Overwhelm (to rescue your Overwhelmed party member, use attacks to knockdown/stun/disable the Overwhelming monster)

I think I fought the High Dragon at level ~16 (it was after I went everywhere else and only needed Ozammar to move to the next part of the plot). Having good armour with good fire Resistance really helps: I used Wade's Drakeskin armours on my rogue and Zhevan while Alister used Juggernaut armour, Wynne stayed in the background to heal. My rogue proved surprisingly survivable, probably because I skyrocketed her Dex (improving both attack and defense) and that her Superior Drakeskin provided 70% fire resistance.

Shale is a DLC character. You have to fight a demon and a bunch of Darkspawn to get him but he is well worth it.

He can Tank, crowd control or support.

His talents (and stupidly high HP) are more than enough to make him an incredible Tank, I suppose the only downside is that he can't equip armour or trinkets. Although, having said that, his "armour" is very good. I only have his basic armour so far but what it does is give you +10% resistance to any element and it changes anyy attack on Shale to that element.

His talents cause massive threat and he gets things like stoneheart which boost his defence like crazy.

I just have Morrigan set to use heal whenever his health falls below 50%, which isn't very often.

he made it very easy to beat Redcliffe without anyone being killed because he pulls every single enemy there is.

He also has the benefit of an instant critical which allows him to shatter enemies.

You've made a lot of mistakes in that post. You'll understand when you do finish Orzammar. It's nothing serious though.

The difficulty is gonna have to take a massive jump if Shale is to become useless as a tank.

Oh, don't worry. Shale is still and always will be an awesome tank.

    So what are my mistakes?

I just got Wynn in my party so I'm thinking of dropping Alistair for her and letting Morrigan focus more on offence.

    Btw, like your avatar.

Just came across a crazy glitch.

I had all my party members set to hold and I was shooting people through rooms with Morrigan. Simply by opening the door for line of sight and then using Morrigan's "Winter's Grasp" to kill them with no resistance.

The only problem is that when I used Winter's Grasp I teleported through a wall and ended up in a completely different room. A locked room no less.

    Link

I circled exactly where Morrigan was standing when she teleported. She teleported right after she finished casting the spell. She kinda glitched onto the table a bit when the spell animation began.

    Link

Here, I have drawn an arrow showing where she was and where she is now.

The worst part is that she has appeared in a locked room and I have no rogues on my team. There is a guard coming at her, hopefuly he will unlock the door.

I haven't unpaused the game yet, if anything mad happens I'll be sure to let you know.

Have any of you experienced anything like this before?
