sega sucks now even when they do something right like valkyria chronicles they do fuck all to publicize it and threaten fans if they don't feel sales are meeting expectations

quite frankly they deserve any failure that comes their way simply because they're horrible at pr

Wrong. Taka-Arashi information had been known before the PS3 version was released. People knew about 'VF5: Evolution' and they knew that another massive update was coming down the road. There was a VF5R at that point you just didn't know about it.
They didn't sue for profits at all. They didn't ask for a single penny. They sued because EVO and Beat-Tribe violated Sega & AM2's rights over using the VF series to make money. They wanted to block sales of the DVDs so they could control more aspects of the VF franchise. You know how much money those DVDs generate...? Sega having to have the lawyers file paperwork probably cost them more than they would get from profits from both groups.
All you keep saying is that we don't support Sega and Virtua Fighter enough and that's why Sega doesn't care about VF outside of Japan.

But during the VF4 era the game was popular enough outside of Japan in places like Korea and the U.S. but Sega didn't care at all then. They sued everyone and refused to port VF4FT when the series was doing well.

Blame everyone for not making the scene large enough for Sega to support it but when the scene was much larger Sega only interacted with everyone one time...to sue them.

And Sega is not that far behind Capcom and Namco? They sued their fans instead of working with them. They won't release international arcade models of VF5R. They don't show up to any non-official Sega event to promote the game. The VSHG sucked and Sega just let it go out anyways. They lied about online play whereas Capcom only licensed GGPO directly from the community. Capcom hired Sirlin to help make updated games that the community wanted whereas Sega's own people won't even PORT games that the community wants.

Heh, the 800 lb gorilla in the room says, "Sega, although WE love the game you failed
to create a product that appeals to the broader american market."

Oh by the way there's "the community" in the context of the VFDC community and there's "the community" as in the fighting game community. In the context of the fighting game community Dr.Dogg is absolutely right since
that's the demographic they are appealing too marketing wise. The fighting game
community here simply didn't buy that shit in mass. People are taking the community thing too personally.

Sure they could put together an advertising campaign and all that stuff but I think
personally although I want R as much as the next guy they are better off waiting until they have more new "stuff" that the average schmuck can see.

Akiras knee being -15 or whatever isn't something the average schmuck can see [IMG]

R has more 'new stuff' than your average fighting game sequel, though.. lots of noticable things too (even for people unfamiliar with the gameplay):

    - Two new characters. Some people may not agree with Taka being new, but for the sake of bringing new people in, he's new enough.

    - Tons of new customisation options. Lots of radical ones that really stand out, too.

    - New music + pretty much all of the music from past VF's too.

    - A new stage + a lot of the old stages have been redone.

    - Custom character intro's in replays. Pretty awesome on it's own, but this could be used in so many additional ways, too! For example: the lack of cutscenes (or even a story mode), they could make some cutscenes in the same way they do these intro things. This would automatically make the intro's appeal more, too, since you could replay some story sequence as your intro or something.

This is just a random thought, but every time I look at a replay with these intro's I'm just like: 'Man.. Sega could bring in so many people in if they'd use this shit!' . So much flavor that could be added to the game, which is exactly what VF needs to bring in more people.

    - There's also things like the new combo-counter and that new replay options with the frame-data display and stuff.

    - Then, they could also put in an EVO-style dojo mode, to really finish things off..

I don't know, it might just be me, but to me it seems like there's so much new stuff in R that Sega could use to appeal to new people.. not to mention that there's a probably bigger market for fighting games now, as well.

Ahem, fat sumos although I'm a Taka fan don't make people buy a game in the US.
Jean while we might think he's cool is more of a Japanese cool than an American cool.
The rest? Only really noticeable to a VF fan.

I think I'm a good example of your typical american game player.

    Stages? Cool, but not important.

Music? I'll notice it more AFTER I get the game.

Customizations? You have to have a personal attachment to a character to care about giving him a hat. In the US most people fail to identify with
    VF characters.

And I quote my friend who's a gamer: "So what is it VF5 with 2 new characters?" Thats how the fighting game community views R. They
didn't buy 5, and wont buy 5 with 2 new characters.

Many of you new posters or new to VF via VF5, don't know how good you have it. The community is larger and more active than it has been in previous versions of VF. The active VF5 community is bigger than 3, 2, and 1 and perhaps the same or bigger than 4.

Personally I prefer the smaller community, it's never about the quantity of players/posters in VF outside Japan, what counts is the quality of players/posters.

About Sega not supporting VF5, historically I suppose they made more money in other areas so in these tough times they devote resources to those categories. You can't blame Sega for running a business. They have a duty to shareholders, not gamers. It sucks that some of Sega's loyal customers who are foreign Vf'ers, don't receive more attention. Maybe we should all buy 2 copies of VF5 [IMG]

I would suggest you look up when Sega brought over the Japanese VF5 cabinets. It was shortly after the VF5 arcade beta in Japan. While SoJ may have known that a new update was coming, SoA certainly did not.

They chat so much shit there they wonder why Daigo claims he plays 5-7hrs a day solid on games. Most of SRK spend that arguing on forums daily and wonder why he cleans house when he comes to evo.

Too much shit talk + not enough game play = stay shit forever.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Back to topic i hope also the netcode they are using would fix Garou - KOF98UM - FatalFurySpecial & Samurai2 - thats if they really wanna do something correct big time overall then they would get some serious respect for it.

    LOL. You just don't know.

Daigo didn't clean house at all. Of course the average poster on SRK can't touch people like Daigo or Ohnuki but that's obvious. However people who have been playing for a long time and competing at EVO didn't get stomped by Daigo like you are making it sound. He won a lot of money from money matches because EVERYONE challenged him. I believe Ryan Hart beat Daigo cleanly in a money match but that's because *gasp* Ryan is good. Every Joe Q Scrublic with a Madcatz TE was challening Daigo to matches and losing so of course it looked like he cleaned house.

In the grand finals of SFIV Justin's Boxer beat Daigo's Ryu 5-4, it's just that ONE loss where Justin chose Abel that separated them in the end. Against the BEST non-Japanese players the Japanese don't just walk into EVO and own everyone.

How often do you see John Choi or Sirlin or Sanford trolling around in general discussion or the strategy forums? Never? Thought so. Because they are actually busy playing the games. You think those guys don't play as often as Daigo? Do you know Choi was doing full day practices last year to get ready for EVO and won two tournaments? Justin was hitting SFIV like CRAZY at CF and at gatherings before EVO. And Sirlin, Thelo, and Afro were playing HDR for hours everyday since the day it came out.

It's the other posters who have made the entire site almost worthless in some parts (the SFIV section is like a textual lobotomy and an assault on your brain) who can't play at all.

The only one who is talking shit is you. Not every poster at SRK is an idiot and many who attended EVO had no problems with beating Japanese players.

This is getting off-topic. I will move this part of discussion to the Evo thread if it continues.
    Neither do you.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Daigo didn't clean house at all. Daigo only entered SF4 and HDR. I don't know why he didn't enter 3S. Its a safe bet to say he would've placed in the top 8 if he had a solid partner.

The money matches were held in a private hotel room. They were plenty of matches going on for the whole weekend. I witnessed a few of them but I wasn't around late Saturday night when Daigo was present. I believe Daigo had 11 money matches varying from FT3 for $50 or FT5 for $100. I don't remember everyone he faced but I'm sure he fought and beat these reputable players: Marn, SIN, Gootecks, ShadyK, iloveu Joe, Dr. Chaos and PhillyOne. He lost sets only to Ryan Hart and Sabin which they won 5-4.

Sabin told me the next day Daigo made $900 that night. He won the SF4 tourney the next day; 1st place was over $7000. Daigo won $8000+ that weekend. If that is not cleaning up I don't know what is.

As far as SRK is concerned, I was used to visit regularly every day before SF4 came out on console. I think its crap now and only visit 2-3 a week. I blame mostly the resurgence of new posters this year.

    ------------------------------------------
Back on the topic of KOF:XII. I would have bought it already if the AI was worth playing. I've bought their games on the PS2 as of last year until now: SamSho Anthology, KOF:XI and NGBC. If I wanted to play some SNK games online I would play on GGPO other than XBL.
